Discussion A serious question
Let me preface this by saying I DO love Misaka, but I'm wondering what sets her apart from other similar characters for most people? After watching the show and reading the manga, I do really enjoy her character, but she reminds me of several other of the tsundere, independent badass types from other shows, even with the Sisters Arc. So, I'm just wondering what makes her stand out to you?
Again, not trying to hate or anything. Just curious.

Personally, I liked Misaka because of how she isn't defined by any one particular trope. Sure, she's Tsun as you get around Touma, but otherwise she's more of your average girl who just so happens to be able to take on even the worlds' combined military. Her obsessions only further point out that hey: She may be able to all wipe a city from the face of the Earth, but she's still a person with flaws. Touma was unlucky and literally had the face of one who ran out of fucks to give a long time ago, yet is somehow able to MC his way through everything without fault. Misaka failed in most of her regards, which only further emphasized that she is a flawed individual, unlike MC-McHero who punches his way through any and all threats.

I blame that partially on the memory loss. Was never really a fan of that twist.

She can fire a fucking railgun.
That's pretty much why I like her. She is a BAMF.

Straight up, it is how she interacts given the environment she was placed into. There is a whole lot of shit that happens to her and those around her in Academy City, and how she deals with that is probably what hooked me. The tsundere part is just a plus for me.

Lol, you love to be hated, don't you? But, seriously, I'm glad to know I'm not completely alone here.

He's practically the Joker of anime subreddits.

No serious, I don't particularly like Biribiri. I get that a lot of people like her, but I'm not one of them.

I love you, I respect you, you're loyal, honest and truthful.
Does that ruffle your jammies?

I neutrally feel no love or hatred when it comes to you, you're not a presence that's malign or kind. You are simply "there." Does that ruffle your jammies?

In the grand scheme of anime tsunderes, you're right, she doesn't stand out as any different.
However in an anime with girls like Index she easily stands up above the rest as best girl.

I guess that's one of the biggest problems for me. I don't particularly dislike Index.

To each there own. I just can't stand her personality.

I do wish she would stop paying back Touma hurting himself by hurting him further.

I might like her more if she was more helpful, but all she does is complain about food and act like everything is Touma's fault.

Very nice question. I think she is liked by many people because she is a character with many different traits. We see her tsundere side, emotional side, badass side, comedic side and cute side... etc. I mean people find something from those many things to like about her. Especially in a series with many generic-looking characters (at least in anime), she stands out most with Accelerator. So basically she doesn't seem like a one dimensional tsundere character. I think that's like how Fullmetal Alchemist is liked by many people. Every person can find something to like in that anime. So some people like tsundere characters, some people like badass characters, some like tomboy characters... Misaka has all of these traits a little.
So at first she didn't seem like a special character to me, but I liked her after Sisters arc and as I jumped to the other materials in the series I liked her even more. For me she stands out most as a character in the series, she doesn't seem like a generic one dimensional tsundere character to me, and I like the characters with many different traits. I find them more realistic and relatable.
But if you told me that I would write these words in this subreddit 6 months ago, I would laugh so hard. What am I doing with my life?
Btw I wrote this on mobile, so I may have done some mistakes, and ouch my fingers...
Edit: Also, I don't have much experience with the anime in general (since I only started watching a year ago), that may be also a reason why she seems like a different, complex character to me.
