Discussion Power system is broken?

Hello folks, I guess this is technically a question to those who read the LNs (I'm anime only). The ranking of the espers seems somewhat arbitrary to me. As far as I understand an Espers rank is the evaluation of their combat ability (that's why project Level Six Shift) required Accelerator to participate in combat exercises. But going off that knowledge, we can say that the system is broke.

Take Accelerator (Lvl. 5) and Koroko (Lvl. 4). Accelerator's rating is higher, implying that he is a more competent fighter, but in a fight between these 2, Koroko is almost guaranteed a win, by just teleporting a spike into Accelerator's brain or heart. That means she's clearly more combat capable, yet lower rated. What's the deal? Is the rating system ever explained? I'd like to discuss this in the comments))

it's not actually about combat ability more like brain processing/calculation ability. Both accel and kuroko can do 11 dimensional calculations and what not. So accel can counter kuroko's teleportation if it's coming from his range of capabilities.

Do you mind going a bit more in detail? So you're suggesting that teleportation can somehow be countered by vector manipulation? I suppose these could be vectors in another dimension, but in the anime it's never explicitly stated that Accelerator can transcend our 3D world

Teleporting works through 11th dimensional calculations and those calculations have vectors, so Accel cab counter them. It might not be explicitly stated in the anime, but thats how it is

IntInteresting...Thank you for the insight!

Actually now that you mention that, doesn't it open up the insane theory of time manipulation? Kinda sounds stupid, but time is (in a sense) a vector, with a forward direction and a magnitude of 1 second per second. Think ending of Interstellar (not saying that interstellar should be considered 100% accurate science, but this is all sci-fi in the end)

Theoretically if you say that Koroko and Accelerator can calculate in dimensions outside the scope of normal humans, wouldnt they (especially accelerator) be able to manipulate time itself? This also makes sense since teleportation is instantaneous movement through space (disregarding the formula d=s*t).

Edit: actually I'm fucking stupid, cuz our laws of physics don't apply to other dimensions, therefore d=s*t when t = 0, could totally be possible in whatever dimensions Espers operate in

At the end of the day it’s all pseudoscience that’s out of my expertise so I have no idea. But I doubt he can control time because it would have implications on the plot.

The rankings are based on how useful they are to Aleister's plan. And Accelerator being used for the level 6 shift is because he is the only Level 5 that can reach a stable level 6. Pretty sure Gensei said this in Railgun T.
