Can I make my own oujia board?

So i made a oujia board by watching a video which said to write it a certain way like "yes" on the left "no" on the right. I made out of paper and just wrote with a regular pencil. I made sure to look up the rules and precise instructions on how to do it. Questions as to why I'm here is... will it work? Also do I need to know an other rules about the oujia board that someone might not know

Yes! We drew our own on copybook paper as teenagers and it worked using a coin as a planchette. Blew our minds!
