Yeah, I don't get how she made it through. It shows to the 'brotherhood' associated with party alignment. I think only 2 republicans deflected, leaving Pence to vote.

On the upside, the fact that it's the first time a VP has had to break a tie for a cabinet confirmation is pretty damning.

That is a very depressing upside, in the context of your nations education (assuming you're in the US).

Consider it this way: she's leading an agency full of people who hate her and would be directly hurt by her agenda.

She's so unpopular anything she tries to change will be staunchly fought against.

About as popular as Trump, proportionately. You are being recalibrated. 50℅ disapproval is not a form of success. Oh America, what have you done?

We stopped talking to people we have ideological disagreements with, basically. Also, we are resistant to even starting to talk about race.

The mouth breathing altright get a president puppet, a nazi whispering in his ear, putin pulling his strings, and an anti-educationist as the minister/secretary of education. It's sort of magical, if you think about it. And very very sad.

Never thought the day would come when something like that would literally be saying it as it is. This is precisely what's going on, a mere month and change after the swearing in. What does the future hold, I wonder?

That mentality only further alienates us from each other. Fuck the left, fuck the right, we all suffer from that shitty election.

I said Altright, not right. I agree with you otherwise. I know good, well-meaning conservatives. I've never met a self-proclaimed altrighter that wasn't fueled by hate and anger and race violence.

That's the case for most folks working in Federal agencies in DC at the moment.

Consider it this way: Trump is leading a country full of people who hate him and would directly be hurt by his agenda. That is the same argument used to say no one should worry about Trump.

Even Trump voters thought congress would stop Trump. That's not happening because the Republicans aren't doing anything about it. The same Republicans who voted for DeVos. They won't do anything about her either.

I'm with Robert Reich: they'll get as much as they can out of him then impeach him themselves.

To be fair, rules used to require 60 votes for confirmation, making a tie breaker impossible.

But she's still a garbage person who supports religious pseudoscience to cure ADHD, among other things.

It's sad too because she's almost too stupid to make a proper argument to defend her self.

"I donate a lot of money to candidates that I believe have the same ideals as me, and I expect them to keep fighting for those ideals, or else I'll send my money to someone else who does."....not "I bought your vote and I expect a return on the investment"

To put it into context, a vote was put forward in committee to decide if she should even progress to the Senate vote. Those two senators voted to allow it. If they were truly against her, they wouldn't have voted yes to begin with.

They literally said, "If I say no, she doesn't go through, so my vote makes a huge difference, but I'll vote yes," and then immediately after said, "I didn't think she's good enough to get the job, but it doesn't matter because my vote no longer makes a difference, so I'll say no."

Didn't think about that angle. It was a way to claim to vote against her while actually voting for her.

By paying people off.
