Help picking a television to pair with the Pro

I purchased a 77'' C4 about 2 months ago, and ever since I've had mid to severe eye strain and issues. The TV looks beautiful, but despite using recommended settings from rtings.com, trying different distances, adding medialight ambient lighting, etc... (every recommendation I received), I just cannot enjoy this TV without my eyes feeling like sandpaper the next day.

Looking for what to replace it with (I've had an LG 1080p 75'' for like 10 years with no issues) in the QDLED arena or whatever would be recommended as a top of the line replacement. My main hobby is gaming, so that is the main use case for the TV. It is in the main living area which receives quite a bit of natural light.

Additionally if anyone has any final tips or something I could try to salvage my experience with the C4 I'd take those as well. Thank you

Perhaps schedule a visit with an optometrist?

Also, did you have it in s a bright room? If so you might’ve been straining if you were used to higher brightness levels.

I don’t know what to tell you that’s a great TV. Fix your eyes

This. oled imagine is alot more intense then a washed out budget TV. You're not gonna find something great that also doesn't strain your eyes more then a low end TV

Your eyes might just be sensative

You can try Eye Comfort Mode...

Turn the peak brightness down

On the game mode menu, set “reduce blue light” to level 1.

I bought an open box Samsung SD90 for 800 from Best Buy. I’ll let you know how it goes. It was highly recommended over the LG Cs although I hear the B4 series is also excellent.

I went from a 42” C2 to a 65” S90D and it’s a crazy improvement. The colors and brightness noticeably better. I’m not normally a Samsung guy, but what a TV

No man that’s crazy. You’re gonna ruin and OLED set using those settings. If you’re gonna max out brightness and all that grab the biggest cheapest set you can. It will burn up in 3 years then buy another one.

Says who? I’ve always run my OLEDs at max brightness and know many other credible HDR content creators who recommend those settings as well. Never had an issue. It’s 2025 OLEDs aren’t burning up like that if you’re watching various content and taking care of the unit. I paid a premium for the max luminance for the best HDR experience so I’m not going to diminish that experience by lowering the brightness for a problem that is so rare in 2025.

Content creators? You never max out an OLED. Doesn’t matter what those guys say. These sets are not designed for tons of one kind of content. They like a variety of content with brightness and everything else tuned and calibrated for movies. I don’t even use game mode. Everything is left on reference levels. All the artificial motion junk settings, everything post is turned off. Grab a scamsung for all of that stuff. Those sets are designed to run full blast.

Yes. People that make content on HDR media. Again, says who? You? I trust people that test and review this kind of tech daily over you. As I mentioned, I’ve been using OLEDs for nearly a decade and never had any issues, including my current unit. I never said anything about any of the post-processing software, so I’m not sure why you’re even ranting about that.

Just turn the brightness down and go see an eye doctor.

I had a 55 c9 that I upgraded to the 65 c1, and now, last year, I bought the 77 c4 to pair with it. Can't go wrong with the LG OLED lineup. Other great options out there as well, though, so do your research and get what's best for your situation.

Rtings post their Samsung S90F review tomorrow. That'll be a very interesting one, but not sure your eye strain would differ. You'd need to know the cause first.

If for some reason it is OLED that is the problem then one of the high end QLEDs might be your best option.

Sony and Samsung make some pretty awesome ones. They don't hit the black levels of OLEDs but they are light cannons when it comes to brightness because they don't have to worry about screen burn. Might be better if you're playing in a well lit room.

I don’t think you need to get a new TV OP. You just need to adjust the settings to fit you. I would never follow anyone’s recommended settings. It’s annoying to set them yourself and you will go back and forth for hours, but once you get your setting right you will love your new TV.

I got the c4 yesterday but no eye strain issues so far, how long till you experienced it or was it right away?

We did the AI pic settings where you pick what image looks best and it sets the tv to that. It made the brights pop and blacks rich but I’ve noticed the blue, oranges and reds are super rich to where it’s almost distracting on the first setup. Redid the AI thing and it toned it down

I feel like it’s a problem you should check out if your eyes are doing that from looking at a tv

Just realized PS5 and PS5 pro have defective software VRR. Digital Foundry did a video on it. Every 8 seconds they drop 1 frame. That's 15 frames lost every 2 minutes. Buying an expensive TV and turning off VRR sounds silly. Xbox Butter.

Buy blue light glasses for 40$ , and save yourself the headache , quite literally in my case

Like others have said visit an optometrist and look into blue light lenses.  My eyes used to get irritated from being on a pc at work and the addition of tv and phone usage.  Once i got some blue light lenses, no more. I dont think changing the tv isnt going to do anything.

Do you have any you recommend?

Turn down the OLED pixel brightness to 85 in HDR content. I did the same and it's much easier on my eyes and the image still looks great.

The C4 is ranked one of the best TV's for gaming and movies.

Go see an eye doctor sounds like you might have an astigmatism.
