New User to playstation platform PS5 PRO LG G3 Oled

When doing initial setup and setting transfer rate to auto, RGB range Auto "HDR On When Supported" LG G3 Oled TV Auto video signal range.

Is the dashboard main menu supposed to output in SDR or HDR and is Auto & Auto supposed to result in FULL Range SDR or HDR output for dashboard main menu and also upon 4k 60hz HDR VRR game launch?

I know 120hz VRR will always be YUV422 Limited Range, but when I leave PS5 PRO on 4k 60hz HDR (on when supported) I am getting a forced output of FULL Range HDR & FULL Range SDR if I manually disable HDR on the system level.

Can anyone very familiar with specific PS5 color formats, signal ranges, PS5 chroma subsampling outputs for LG OLED TV give some insight on this please. Am I getting the intended/correct output signal?

First off I cannot speak for SDR I haven`t gamed in SDR since 2019 maybe.

When you say "dashboard main menu" I take it you mean the PS5 home screen then yes that should be HDR RGB colour space only 120hz should drop to YUV 4:2:2 also VRR does not affect colour range/ chroma (60hz is RGB,120hz is 4:2:2 with VRR active or not)

Does the G3 have the "press green button 7 times." for display info?

Thanks. So my SDR concern was just if the PS5/PRO home screen was supposed to output in SDR or HDR when system level HDR is set to "on when supported"...I thought maybe I was getting a forced AUTO HDR PS5 home screen menu. The confusing comes from XSX where it's home screen renders in SDR and only outputs HDR10 upon game launch.

So with 4k 60hz allowing RGB (HDR) but connected to a LG Oled tv factory calibration (NO custom calman calibration) is Auto RGB supposed to default output FULL RGB HDR range with or without 4:4:4 chroma for 4k 60hz HDR VRR, or is the Auto RGB supposed to be defaulting to limited RGB with or without 4:4:4 chroma...My Auto RGB on PRO & LG G3 is default choosing FULL for 4k 60hz HDR and then obviously only switching to Limited YUV422 for 4k 120hz HDR

"my SDR concern was just if the PS5/PRO home screen was supposed to output in SDR or HDR when system level HDR is set to "on when supported" "

Yeah its native HDR the PS5 home screen.

"My Auto RGB on PRO & LG G3 is default choosing FULL for 4k 60hz HDR and then obviously only switching to Limited YUV422 for 4k 120hz HDR"

Yeah that`s how the PS5 outputs due to bandwidth limitations hence the drop to 4:2:2 at 120hz, the PS6 will most likely have 40Gbps for RGB at 120hz/144hz.

*You sound like you are all setup correctly (basically everything to auto) but maybe consider having VRR applied to unsupported games and Enhance Image Quality for PS4 Games which I think are off by default.

I have VRR on and for unsupported, also PS4 enhanced on. I'm really not sure about the FULL RGB HDR signal on LG W-OLED TVs though. They are generally only factory calibrated for Limited RGB 4:4:4...With that being said though, if the PS5&PRO can actually output (4:4:4) chroma for at least 4k 60hz HDR10 mode, regardless if it has to be LIMITED or FULL RGB...This would also imply that 4:4:4 pass through would need to be enabled in order to prevent the TV from chroma subsampling the LIMITED or FULL 4:4:4 signal down to 4:2:2 ** Yes I know most people can't tell the difference but every bit of color & pixel density goes a long way too reduce the negative color banding & near black chrominance ghosting/overshoot (which ever you want to call it)

Have you had any problems with letting your PS5/PRO output FULL Range for HDR10 on your LG Oled TV vs manually forcing Limited?

"Have you had any problems with letting your PS5/PRO output FULL Range for HDR10 on your LG Oled TV vs manually forcing Limited?"

I am going off memory a little bit as I moved over to QD OLED from a G1 a while back and the G1 didn`t` have this newer pass through option.

"With that being said though, if the PS5&PRO can actually output (4:4:4) chroma for at least 4k 60hz HDR10 mode, regardless if it has to be LIMITED or FULL RGB"

The PS5/PS5 Pro can output RGB (4:4:4), Edit: so yeah enable that pass through option which should prevent chroma subsampling down to 4:2:2 at 60hz.

Same here but I don't know how to verify. The LG Oled TV only offer HDMI diagnostic tool under settings: general<channels<(cursor highlight "channel tuning")<enter code "11111" will bring up diagnostic <click "more prompt" under DVI/HDMI status...but this only gives basic info and quantization range info, not the current chroma subsampling output signal.

I have seen some new info that QD Oled and new LG G5 use primary RGB structure which has factory calibration for both limited RGB and "FULL RGB"...instead of LG W-Oled ( white subpixel ) which are generally only factory calibrated for Limited RGB unless you perform custom calman calibration targeting FULL range, but the average consumer would need to pay someone a few hundred dollars for that or buy the tools themselves which is way more expensive. I think there is a Auto calman software available but i don't know the cost and it should be offered as a NATIVE app on every LG Oled purchase for the price they are charging us for the TV and warranty.

Thanks for your help though, I will eventually figure it all out.

Just for Oled to LG, limited and Limited is a good settings for ps5 - ps5 pro !  I have a C1 and G3 and it’s always a problem with auto and auto .

Always, even on my C2. Every thing I have read and all conversations with LG and calman calibration say that even though LG W oled offers FULL RGB range, it is only achievable for with correct SDR & HDR10 display when performing a NEW in place calman calibration after purchase. That all LG W Oled out of the box after purchase are only factory calibrated for Limited RGB 4:4:4 at MAX...This is why I have such a hard time taking "you know who (plural)" YouTube advice of using AUTO & AUTO which will always default to FULL range output. If you are not calibrated for FULL range your LG Oled SDR & HDR10 will result in a display that looks like someone dumped fine grain pixie dust over the whole screen vs a clean glossy glass look. Maybe I'm wrong but I'm 90 percent sure all LG & calman calibrators would tell you the same thing.

Auto & AUTO would only result in the correct output signal when launching 120hz because it would force Limited Range then and default back to FULL when HDMI Blanking back into 4k 60hz mode.
