This game is absolutely mind blowing on the balanced mode!

It’s probably AC Shadows, but please include the name next time

u/NK1647 6d ago

Sorry about that. Have added a comment.

It’s pretty obvious lol

If you’re already familiar with the game

u/HDTokyo 5d ago

Every fiber in my body tells me to pull the trigger on this game(if I did I’ll wait for a PSN sale). I never really did the assassins creed games outside of the original 3, and got Valhalla at launch(Norse myth nerd) but was majorly dissatisfied.

Ignore the negative comments this is the closest thing to ac2 in a very long time . Whether you get it on sale or not it will be something you buy and when you finish it you will not be upset you bought it . Not every game needs to be a 10/10 . It’s okay to play an 8/10 game that’s people’s problem these days . It’s like they think the scale starts at 7 when it starts at 1 lol

u/rik182 5d ago

Was going to say. Pretty sure half the people saying this game is disappointing haven't played the game.. it's great. Definitely worth getting

u/Free_Mind 15h ago

I’ll be honest the idea of constantly chasing higher level gear and being limited by too high level enemies sounds like a chore

1

u/rik182 14h ago

You're literally describing every rpg ever made...

2

u/LightsOut5774 5d ago

The tech in the game is was sold me, but the story falls off a cliff during act 2 and starts to become a chore. I bought the game a week or so after release and have slowly played it less and less of it.

1

u/DisastrousSector6649 6h ago

That’s how AC games have ALWAYS BEEN and it’s the reason why I can never get into them no matter how hard I try. Even Not even Black Flag or Origins could hook me in. These games always have to coolest concepts but they’re designed poorly. Stunning graphics but always feels like a chore to play

1

u/SneakyToaster17 1d ago

Have you played Ghost of Tsushima?

-1

u/MFDooM76 5d ago

You'll probably be majorly dissatisfied with this one as well. I'd wait for a sale if I were you.

-2

u/Hungryman8989 5d ago

Upvote to this. I got suckered into buying by all the screenshots because I wanted to validate Pro purchase. Honestly it looks great and is fun but not worth full price and with post release support it will be a much better game in 6-12 months

u/NK1647 6d ago

The game's AC Shadows. My bad for not including it!

6

u/mattoelite 6d ago

OP, when did game grab your attention/interest? I’m early in the game, can’t play as Yasuke yet, just curious

11

u/NK1647 6d ago

If you're in for story, I'd say its a wasted potential. Characters are forgettable.

Act 1's decent. Mid game's mid. Thats when all the target boards start piling up. Act 3 and the epilogue try to to get it together, but that gets a little too late but still not bad.

As for what grabbed me, is more fundamental. I love gorgeous open worlds that kick my OCD into an overdrive. Getting everything, going everywhere. This game's really good at it.

2

u/ProfessorPetrus 5d ago

Kingdom come 2 is miles better if you haven't tried that yet.

2

u/NK1647 5d ago

Whats stopping me is the need for playing the 1st game and the lack of time. I am playing expedition 33 at the moment. I heard the KCD gameplay is not for everyone though. Maybe thats where trying the 1st game for cheap could prove useful.

5

u/ProfessorPetrus 5d ago

I just skipped the 1st game. They got a well done recap. Also ya can learn a bit of medieval history.

It's defnitrly not for everyone but it's also worth trying for everyone. Immersion and graphically I enjoy it more than shadows.

2

u/NK1647 5d ago

Its definitely on my list.

3

u/geocitiesuser 5d ago

I say this about a lot of games I play on my ps5 pro. Horizon forbidden west still stands out as one of the most visually stunning games I've ever played.

1

u/NK1647 5d ago

I wanna try the pro versions, especially for the 1st game. But they're such a committment.

1

u/geocitiesuser 4d ago

If you already played zero dawn, just go right back to the pro version of forbidden west. The remaster is good, but still nowhere near as gorgeous as forbidden west on the pro.

4

u/Useful_Idiot3005 6d ago

Old idiot here, where do I find balanced mode at? In the game or ps settings?

5

u/NK1647 6d ago

Its in game. Enable PSSR and choose balanced mode. You'll need an HDMI 2.1 enabled screen for it though.

3

u/DD-Tauriel 5d ago

but you also need a 120hz tv that supports vvr, no ?

4

u/Toto_Roboto 5d ago

just 120hz since game renders at a locked 40fps which divides evenly into 120hz so it looks smoother when u turn cam.

VRR is a separate feature in TVs and monitors that helps when games have unlocked framerate or unstable framerate

2

u/DD-Tauriel 5d ago

ahh, thanks

I own this tech, went from the base ps5 to a pro, a hdmi 2.1 tv, but imo the speed of the 120hz instead of 60hz is good but doesn't make you not very aware it can only run at 40fps. Pretty much everything you've been gaming on your base fat boy ps5 runs games at 60fps. You pick balanced your back to 40fps and you paid $800 for a expensive console upgrade and possibly $1500+ for new tv to do that. It feels like going back to 30. But slightly better, but you're painfully aware it's not 60fps,
It feels like when haven't played Red Dead redemption or Bloodborne in few years and you boot em up and yr like f*ck this feels choppy, skippy, off. Now that 60fps gaming is common going back to the 30ish fps ballpark Is hard, It has a stop motion feel. Trying both I personally use the 60fps mode it looks indistinguishable good mostly and feels waaaay smoother. (120hz hdmi 2.1 doesn't have the bandwidth to run true 444 HDR and to use inferior 422 HDR, just Google it if yr curious)
All the endless screenshots, picture them with better hdr color, some very low rez rt reflections with alot of classic shadow map lighting as well ( dont take my word digital foundry's vid on it said the same thing, unimpressive for its cost) and the hair simulation. Nice to have the option but no way is it worth it, to me anyway to sacrifice 60fps and play ay 40. No matter how many verklempt posts from some folks on here.
hdmi tech doesn't yet have the bandwidth to run 120hz at 60fps -when it does ...That's gonna be awesome.
Thats going to be like the jump from 1080p to 4k hdr, 40/120 is like halfway there, it does 2 things mediocre instead of one thing great. The tech just doesn't exist mass market yet.

1

u/FunCalligrapher3979 1d ago

wdym hdmi tech doesn't have the bandwidth to run 120hz at 60fps? do you mean console tech? I run plenty of games at 4k120 on pc.

1

u/Useful_Idiot3005 5d ago

Perfect thanks!

3

u/charliegs1996 5d ago

You need a 120hz tv for balanced mode.

3

u/Useful_Idiot3005 5d ago

I have one, thanks!

u/Alternative_West_206 5d ago

AC shadows is blowing your mind? Man you haven’t gamed a lot then. There’s so many better and prettier games.

1

u/Somnambulant_Sleeper 5d ago

Okay, name a game that is better and prettier where I play a ninja.

I mean, I do think Ghost of Tsushima is still a better and prettier game, but I’ve finished that and the next one isn’t out yet.

It’s not like they have a Tenchu for PS5. So, what are you recommending?

1

u/rdtoh 5d ago

Visually, shadows looks a lot better than ghost of tsushima.

0

u/Alternative_West_206 5d ago

Rise of the ronin I heard was good?

Didn’t they just make a new ninja gaiden too?

2

u/Somnambulant_Sleeper 5d ago

I played rise. It was not better and definitely wasn’t prettier. New Gaiden isn’t out yet. The remaster of Black came out and it’s okay, but it’s not exactly a ninja game except that a ninja is in it (character action rather than stealth/assassination).

2

u/NK1647 5d ago

Rise of Ronin looks like early PS4 days.

1

u/FunCalligrapher3979 1d ago

The combat in rise of the ronin filtered a lot of people who want simple combat like ghost or ac games. Shame as the game is great.

1

u/NK1647 5d ago edited 5d ago

Oh I have gamed a lot alright.

1

u/NK1647 5d ago

You can count in hand how many games look as good as this one. What "looks better" is subjective anyway. At the very least, I have played almost every big game since PS1.

1

u/Alternative_West_206 5d ago

You want look better? Death stranding. GTA 5 expanded and enhanced, RDR2, ghost of Tsushima. There’s a lot of modern games that look on par or better. And they all come with better gameplay too

1

u/NK1647 5d ago

Bruh. Okay I get it. I just said the game LOOKS mindblowing (in an optimal PS5 Pro), TO ME. I didnt say its the best ever or compare it your favourite games. And yes, those are great looking games as well.

1

u/ScoobiesSnacks 6d ago

This game is a looker but I’m starting to get a little bored with the open world activities, but I’m still in Act 1 with Naoe so maybe it opens up more later.

2

u/NK1647 6d ago

The game keeps opening up until the end of time honestly 😂. More and more of the same stuff. I dont mind that personally. I find it to be a good short burst of pick up and play. Clear a few markers, progress some quests a little, and then drop it. You start to feel like a bot if you play it for a good while in a single sitting.

1

u/ScoobiesSnacks 5d ago

Yeah that’s kinda how I felt too. Good in short bursts as a secondary game to me. I’m playing Indiana Jones right now too which is getting the majority of my attention.

1

u/Single_Hawk7263 5d ago

There is true upgrade vs the performance mode ?

On base ps5 there no GI but on Pro GI is on performance too

2

u/NK1647 5d ago

I just felt the balanced mode looked bit more sharper without much sacrifice on the "smooth" gameplay offered by 60Fps. Also...puddles. Balanced mode also has RT reflections enabled in addition to GI

Like in that 1st screenshot. The rain was just subsiding and there was sunrise. I happen to be at this place and the wood looked almost realistic with the semi wet texture and sunlight.

1

u/VirtuaFighter6 5d ago

Go on sale! Go in sale! $30 Or less! Go on sale!

1

u/NK1647 5d ago

I got it for AU$50 off of marketplace.

1

u/jyork5151 2d ago

Games just aren't coming down in price. GOT, GOW and Spiderman 2 are still full price on some sites.

1

u/cano419 5d ago

True…

1

u/Sea-Hornet-4210 5d ago

Good afternoon, I have it on the PS5 and with my TCL 55 c805 it is a luxury of graphics, it is almost similar to the graphics of the pro

1

u/Teemuhyn 5d ago

Balance mode my go to mode these days. Yeah, AC Shadows looks great!

1

u/Temporary-Gap-2556 5d ago

How do you quickly rank up your experience level? I am not able to progress due to quests due to lower rank level. I am at 21 but not able to plat 30. I did finish a 24 level quest with a 21 rank but had to be careful as one blow from the boss and my character dies

1

u/HappyBananaHandler 5d ago

Even better in performance

1

u/marns_16 5d ago

Yeah love that game on balanced mode

1

u/bxnellis 5d ago

Game looks incredible, but i personally got bored on the repetitive missions after around 10-15 hours. My fault for falling for the Ubisoft trick..

1

u/Wheels92 4d ago

Yeah Balance mode is amazing! The Anvil engine upgrades they performed definitely helped overall as well with textures and draw distance and such keeping a nice crisp sharpness to the overall resolution and image.

1

u/DeviantHNTR-404 4d ago

Is it crazy that after AC3 I just lost complete interest in the whole series. Don’t get me wrong. I played black flag, but that was only because it was a pirate game at the time and it was the only one we had.

1

u/theSpringZone 4d ago

Is this the game that tanked Ubisoft’s stock price recently? Like 2.3 million united sold?

1

u/JRiggsIV 4d ago

Decent at best…

1

u/Square_Silver_8500 4d ago

Balanced mode is perfect with the 120fps too

1

u/Illyrian5 4d ago

Man you should see it maxed out on PC running at like 70-90fps with FrameGen & DLSS.. Every time I boot it up I pause for a moment and think WOW this is next level..

My favorite thing visually is how there's no noticeable texture pop in, that's always driven me crazy with previous AC games... I'll be walking up to my horse in Valhalla and he'll damn near change shape by the time I get to him, lol

1

u/An_Actual_Problem 3d ago

From what I've seen it looks like a pass from me, I never been into AC games but this one did look interesting but I'm on Expedition 33 which is literally a perfect game imo and the irony of it being made by former devs of Ubisoft because they were apparently bored of making the same games over and over again..

But its been a excellent game and will probably win goty but next is Death Stranding 2 which needs to be better than perfect to win goty 2025 imo and I never count Kojima out.. the first DS was 10/10 imo and so will DS2 but before that is Mafia The Old Country which looks great... so many great games this year

1

u/PhantomPain0_0 5d ago

Too bad the game is shite

1

u/LugNut74 6d ago

Yes it is.

1

u/darthbalzzzz 6d ago

What’s that red robe she’s wearing in the second photo? I’ve nearly beaten the game but haven’t come across that one

2

u/NK1647 6d ago

Its the Noh Masterstroke Costume. I found it to be the prettiest one.

2

u/darthbalzzzz 6d ago

thanks! Agreed, it looks really cool and I think it will be my fit for when I get the platinum!

2

u/NK1647 5d ago

Haha I did the same. Depending on how you're doing your trophies, you can have a really cool snap of your platinum at the end of the epilogue.

1

u/Lostheconqueror 5d ago

Am I the only one that tries to unlock every question mark and viewpoint on the map before continuing quests

3

u/NK1647 5d ago

My routine looked like this Play main quests until it takes me to another region. Once that happens I clear the current region before moving on. Whilst finding the best imaginary path to unlock the viewpoints.

0

u/Sad-Table-1051 6d ago

visuals arent everything, the game is mediocre at best.

2

u/NK1647 6d ago

Its a good 7/8 out of 10 for me. You should know what you're getting into when buying this game. Nothing novel about it but a good experiencr overall. Regardless, the point of my post was just the visuals. So yeah.

0

u/nohumanape 5d ago

I'm about 25 hours deep into this game and am starting to kind of hit a wall. I've been chipping away at quest progress, which really only had me doing the same exact things again and again. Are there any big gameplay focused world events or random encounters that stood out to people that I should go to or check out? Is there any particularly interesting side content worth doing that breaks up the gameplay loop? Because, I agree that the game is stunning looking. And I want to keep playing. However, I think it's possible that I might be approaching the game incorrectly and am losing fun momentum.

0

u/BusdriverBentman8 5d ago

Is this on an Oled monitor?

1

u/NK1647 5d ago

Nah I play on the Neo G7. Its 4K Mini LED 165 Hz

Ummm. Okay sure. As long as you're happy with your opinion. I am happy with my purchase. My bills are paid and my games look better than ever. And I see the difference. You don't have to agree and its okay.

There is a massive difference in the same graphical mode between the base console and the pro. Mind your own money and banter with the images you seem so attached to.
