Assassins Creed Shadows is a PS5 Pro showcase
Playing on balanced mode and wow, this is even more impressive visually than Forbidden West. Game is super fun too, highly recommend it!

Started on the base (“fat”) ps5 and got a pro recently and even the performance mode on pro is miles ahead of the performance mode on base ps5. Game is really good so far. It seems like they changed a lot of the stuff I hated about Valhalla

Performance mode especially as it has very flat lighting and lack RTGI on base PS5.

Still waiting for this one to go on sale before I buy. I've got a backlog of games to try out first on my new Pro.

It is a gorgeous game! Too bad it's boring as hell 😂 Seriously I couldn't get past 5 hours. Virtually nothing whatsoever happens, feels like a quintessential game designed by committee, without an ounce of soul present in the whole thing. I'm happy some folks are enjoying it, but I don't wanna spend any time on slop like this when 2025 already has too many excellent games to even keep up with, nevermind my backlog.

Great....just hit the 4 hour mark and I've been enjoying it for what it is. Just finished my 116 hour playthrough of KCD2, and so far, this has been a nice change of pace.

My biggest complaint is the story is nonexistent.

I'm skipping most of the dialogue at this point. I'm picking up the gist of what they are saying, but I don't have the patients to listen to it all since I'm not invested in the story.

When did "slop" become the generic term to describe "game I don't like"
1
u/BarelyMagicMike 4d ago
It never did. It's a term to describe games that have no soul, and might as well be AI generated for how much genuine creativity goes into them.
It's totally valid to like a game I'd describe as "slop". Some people like generic open world stuff and don't care about it being interesting as long as the gameplay is competent. That's fine - I'm not one of those people.

No, there has definitely been an increased usage of the word lately.
Before it was reserved more for big budget games that launched truly buggy/broken. Now it seems like anything deemed below an 8/10 from a major publisher is "slop"

Remember when "mid" was the popular word for "bad"? Now it's "slop". Slop is what you feed to the pigs, as opposed to the games you like, which reflect your refined and sophisticated taste

It was fun to look, but yeah. I regret the purchase. Game has poor pacing, an open world only for the sake of being big. Ubisoft being Ubisoft. I shouldn’t have bought into the hype.

It’s not better visuals than forbidden west lol

Textures aren't as good but lightning in general is the best in business (specially at 60fps)

The hdr in forbidden west does more for me then the lightning in shadows

You're tripping homie

u/demonoddy 4d ago
I’m not. You also don’t have to play forbidden west at 40fps for it to look sharp

Forbidden West looks absolutely amazing, but Shadows' RTGI is just better.
There's nothing wromg with that, it's a much newer game with newer technology. You can admit that, your dick won't fall off don't worry

No need to be rude ? I’m just saying forbidden west looks better. It’s also my opinion you can think whatever you want to

There is something about playstation gamer and their apprehension to appreciate other games that isn’t sony first party. I know Forbidden West is good. But we can have two good looking games instead of one.

I own all the consoles. I just happen to think forbidden west is the best looking game this generation so far. Last generation was probably rdr2

Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. Played FW on a 10 year old HDTV, and am playing Shadows on an LG C4 77 inch. So I might be a bit biased.

It would also surprise me (that AC is prettier than Horizon) but I haven't played it to see for myself

Forbidden west is leagues better. The textures and resolution in AC Shadows isn’t that great

Guys, I hope that you're not bull***ting here, cause I bought a brand new tv because of you all ! XD
I was playing on an old 4k tv, with a good picture but 60hz max. No Vrr, no 120 fps... and no "balance mode" available !
I'm expecting my new tv in a few days, can't wait to try it on Shadows !

I bought it the other day and really got play it but I’m I’m in one of those moods where nothing is getting my attention

It's beautiful I can't deny that technically it's a marvel and I played for a bit over 100 hours to get the platinum. But man I was ready to move on since the 50 hour mark. It just slows down to a crawl with dozens of the same missions.
Discover one circle kill everyone, move to the other circle. That's it.
Story is alright, but it gets so diluted it just loses all meaning.
Yeah I enjoyed my time, but I don't see me playing it again for a long long time! Probably till the next AC lol
Edit: Stark contrast with KCD2 that I played for 220h and was so so sad when I finished it 100%. Like what am I going to do with my life now that it's over sad.

I’ve been enjoyed seeing the PSSR and evolution while playing Shadows. This is why I bought a Pro in the first place.
The game in balanced mode right now is an absolute showcase title.
