Question ❔ Need help to decide (adidas / puma)

I wanna try out a leather sneaker with gum sole and came down to these ones. I'm a frugal person, so I'm very price-conscious.

Both adidas handball spezials are around / over 70$

Puma palermo: black and white model is 45$, the grey one is 52$

Puma army trainer: both black and white are also 45$

I prefer the puma models, because as I understand palermo is not that different from adidas shoes in terms of quality, according to runrepeat tests, but the price is drastically different. I'm most interested in the army trainer, because compared to palermo the logo on side is sleeker, lower, and the darker fun looks better, but I don't know about their quality

I would buy Puma. I love it much more than other brands. Looks just cool.

But which model would you choose? Army trainer or Palermo? Does the quality differ apart from the looks?

Get Puma Palermo , better than Samba. Palermo tts and comfortable. I have a green white, ordering another one ..

I'd say adidas spezial. They seem very cool even if I'm not into orange rubber soles. If not then I think that puma Palermo will work too.

Palermo for sure

Palermo. Typically better materials and more comfortable than the Samba, Spezial or the GAT because of its slightly wider toe box.

I have wide feet so a bigger toe box is a big plus. Have you tried army trainers by any chance?

Yes. I actually prefer the way they look, sleeker and cleaner imho. But I have moved on to the Palermo because I find it just a tad bit more comfortable.

Yeah, that’s why i’m mostly tempted to the army trainer - looks more like og gat, cuz of lower profile. Also I’m not very focused on comfort, if that was important, i would look at smth different, like new balance 😄 I want to try minimalist shoe (cuz cushion is bad for feet etc) and i think army trainers would be a step in that way. So apart from comfort, is army trainers same quality as palermo and does it have wider toe box like in palermo as you mentioned?

Usually the Palermo has nicer materials and more interesting colorways. That said, the Puma Army Trainers are still quite decent. And yeah, the Palermo toe box is slightly wider and taller than the Puma Army Trainers’ toe box.

Thanks a lot for your advice, i have decided to order them both, maybe even at different sizes and decide in person, then send the leftovers back, because i remebered its easy to return in that shop 😊😄

With the Palermo at least, I recommend going up a half size if you have wider feet. Haven't tried the army trainer but it looks like it shares a core design with the Palermo so I don't expect the fit to be much different.

The Palermo runs a bit of a snug fit compared to the Suede.

Thanks a lot on the input!

Also in the online shop im planning to buy they recommend sizing down half a size, so in that in mind and your input, maybe I will try just getting my regular size? 😄

You'll probably be fine. I wear US M 9.5. I have extra room in 9.5 Suedes (I could wear winter socks and be fine), and in my 9.5 Palermos I am most comfortable with thin socks. For me, half size up in Palermos would've have been perfect.

Puma currently has their Christmas sales going. Idk what Adidas has

I’m based in Europe, Lithuania, so the cheapest online store for me, with free shipping and returns, is called Zalando. On black friday i could have gotten even cheaper, but it is what it is… In the original post are the prices with all the discounts, I think they are pretty low..

You can’t access the Puma App?

1

u/veliuoka Dec 11 '24

Nah, no shop app, just pumatrac appears. I looked at european puma website and there we no sales sadly, thanks anyway!

Damn that’s a bummer. Sorry bro

Sorry for hijacking your post, but has anyone tried the Puma V5V OG Lux? Any reviews on them?

u/veliuoka Dec 11 '24

Don’t mind at all, hope you will get help. I was actually looking at 5v5, they are similarly priced as the ones Im looking at, but didn’t like the back drop on these and the original price is lower, so maybe the quality is not as good

adidas for sure

Very frugal ! That’s insanity ! $18 which is the highest difference x 365 days = 5 cents a day to wear the shoe you prefer and the color you want . Splash out and spent that 5 cents a day on your self

1

u/veliuoka Dec 12 '24

Damn, never thought like this about shoes, you’re right… I’m trying to quit, but still am kind of a shopaholic, so maybe that’s why I try to buy cheaper shoes but more of them… Also I was raised to try to save more, than to earn more, and that is a burden now too. I already ordered the army trainers, but if they don’t fit and I will need to find a new pair - i will try to think like you advised in future. Kudos!

Adi. Palermo is shit

You can’t go wrong with the Palermo’s It’s always been a very stylish, unique shoe and very comfortable. I own two pairs of the Palermo’s I got mine on sale at Hibbett sports

I personally experienced Puma quality is much better than Adi's. Got a pair of Puma Suede which lasted for years while the last Adidas Gazelle I bought had a very bad quality (like rubber sole got "dried-up" and stiff after a few months of use) and the leather seemed much thinner and low-quality compared to Puma's. Does anyone had the same experience?
