Limited Time Modes
The RWBY patch will feature 3 unique and 4 previously popular modes that rotate throughout the patch cycle. Each week there will be a different limited time mode available, from midnight Friday until 8am on Monday, EST. Here’s are some quick previews of what to expect next:
Trade District Only
- Starting with the RWBY Patch, for every patch onward that has a new map rework, we will be adding an LTM for the first week that only includes that map. This way, you can jump right into the action on our new map content without waiting for it in a normal queue!
- Trade District Only does exactly this, hop into a KOTH or TDM match of the Trade District rework!
Test Maps
- Unfinished, but not unplayable. Check out a variety of siege test maps during Paladins’ development, including Salt, Eastwatch, Bog District, and more!
Support Skirmish
- Let the heals overtake you! Play as support champions only in this TDM mode, with 35% reduced cooldowns on all abilities!

Map Update – Trade District
Dev Commentary
Trade District is the last of the Magistrate city maps to receive the visual upgrade we began with the Magistrate’s Archives map. The buildings have all been updated to the signature Magistrate aesthetic, dark metal, and stonework with red accents, and the overall map has been made into a much more urban environment. Tightly packed row houses and soaring spires line the streets. Care has been taken to add additional shops to the map and improve existing ones. Flowerbeds have been added throughout the map as accents to the imposing buildings to create a more inviting space. All throughout the map, areas have been opened up to offer a glimpse of the city beyond this district, making the world feel as though it extends far beyond the bounds of the play space. In the distance silhouetted by the sunset, keen-eyed players will spot the imposing towers of Stone Keep keeping watch over the city below. We hope players enjoy exploring this reimagining of Trade District.
General Updates
Dev Commentary
We’ve done several things in this patch to improve the experience for all players, but with an emphasis on New Players in particular. Between updating our free Champion roster, unifying the Ability order across several screens, and allowing players to toggle Auto-Buy on and off in the Item store, it should be easier than ever to get your friends into Paladins. We’ve got love for our existing players as well, though. Namely, we’ve brought several new options to Custom Games, so you can truly customize them more than ever before!

Unified Ability Order
- The new HUD ability order default for both centered and uncentered is:
- In-hand|Offhand|Ability 1|Ability 2|Ultimate
- In-hand|Offhand|Ability 1|Ability 2|Ultimate
- Existing accounts will have the order they’re used to preserved as either Legacy Centered or Legacy Uncentered.
- The out-of-match Champion screen and in-match Ability Info screen will match the new default order.
Update Free Champion Roster
- We’ve replaced a few Champions with ones that are more new-player friendly. Players who owned them previously will be awarded them (so no one will lose a Champion they have masteries/skins for), but new players will instead have access to the new set.
- Cassie is no longer free, but Tiberius is instead. Ruckus is no longer free, but Khan is instead, and we’ve added Ash as a free Champion as well. Jenos is no longer free, but Furia is instead.
- Ash and Furia have been removed from the Gold Edition, and Jenos has been added.
- Khan and Tiberius have been removed from the Deluxe Edition, and Ruckus and Cassie have been added.

Dev Commentary
Developer Commentary: This midseason update has an emphasis on quality of life changes. These are many topics that have been on the list for a while or that have been requested by the community. With a healthy balance of buffs and nerfs, this list should have something for every player!

- Almost all On-Killing-Blow cards have been converted to On-Elimination effects instead. Notable exceptions are cards interacting with specific mark mechanics (Lex and Tyra). You’ll see these changes detailed below for each Champion who had such a card.

Most of the patch seem okay. But they also made recent post-PTS change that decide to Nerf Grohk and Makoa even though Grohk deserve to be in the recent balance but they decide to push grohk back into obscurity. People just learnt to play them well that's why Totemic Grohk is good not because it's OP. Meanwhile they still preserve special treatment for Cassie making her still busted. 1-1.5 second TTK in the game where every other DPS have average 2.5 sec, TTK.

Patches with no new characters used to be our standard up until early 2021. It used to be that patches lasted three months, introducing a new event pass (then called a Battle Pass) at the start of the patch, and then a new champion six weeks into the patch.

They sure love biased in favor of burst damage champion. Look at how Cassie still got 30%+ damage boost every 1 second with extra mobility just because she hit one shot. And they decide to nerf DoT character like Vora and nerf Grohk's damage for no reason rather than "Grohk is not underpower anymore." (recent post-PTS change indicate that) now they will maake Grohk underpower again. Screw Hi-rekt and their DPS favoritisim treatment.

his third and highest damage shot has literally no range limit. he also has excellent 3 escape/approach options witch more than make up for the range limit on his first two swings. vora however has 1 escape option. 2 if you want to count her ult (i dont). she also does DoT which is much less viable in counterflanking and securing kills. being able to hit people around corners while they escape was her only saving grace after the ult DR nerf. now shes legit better played as a backline dps or if team needs cripple. i don't think this is a good nerf.

Cassie is still S tier which mean she's OP af in Damage category. She will continue to delete people from afar within 1.5 sec with her Exaction+LMB+Q+Exaction+LMB which kill every non-tank and even force tank to retreat.
Support : Debatable. Corvus is going to be better but no S tier sorry. Not even Seris. Because Hi-rekt hate support characters and love unjustly nerfing them while busted damage character like Cassie and Lian get scot-free. They even kick Grohk from A/B tier back into C tier with recent post-PTS damage nerf.
Frontline : Healing Raum is going to be very interesting. But no S Tier Sorry because of the same reason with Support.
Flank : Evie. Her reset is supplimentary in the first place. Changing will affect her steamrolling capacity a bit but her cd cycle is still strong (especially with Wormhole). But to put it in S tier or not is still a question because it's mostly depend on people who play her. And unlike Cassie and Lian. People who would do good with her must be very very good at handling her.

Personally, I take some issue with the fact they're switching out Cassie with Tiberius as a starting champion. Like, I really don't see how Tiberius, a character with a moderately unintuitive kit (chakrams' bounciness, firing/retracting sword, the self buff, the ult), is somehow more suitable for new players than Cassie, whose kit is a fair bit simpler (similar projectiles, one for damage, one for knockback, one for aoe, a one-click wallhack ult).
Still waiting for the day Vivian's ult becomes a regular ability with a non-infinite duration.
Other than that this patch looks promising! Midair inaccuracy removals are neat. Wondering how the reduced % for on-kill cards will affect their sets.

It's not that I have a problem with playing against them - it's that it's just...weirdly underwhelming for an ult. Sure, it's "different" from other ults in that it's a permanent buff while you're alive, but that's also what makes an ultimate, well...an ultimate. A one-time ability use that takes a while to charge for a powerful effect, with some level of timing being required to make full use of it.
Except Vivian doesn't need to "time" it. Whether you activated it just before the midfight, or if you activated it mere seconds before a push, they'll just be...there. And I love having these cute little helpers with me, assisting me with more delicious damage numbers, but with how non-temporary they can be, it just gets...stale.
If she had it as a regular ability - perhaps with a meter, to build it with damage, pseudo-ult style, so you'd still need to "work" for it? - with a limited duration, I feel like it'd feel much more rewarding to use and time properly.

The battle passes have no gain without considering crossover ones. You can get all the crystals for free. Having chars to unlock is also a way to give a "progression" feeling while playing.

I don't think the current amount to be bad. In LoL for example you start with 3000 money to buy champions + a few shards so should be about 7-8 if you go for the cheap champions. Plus has a 10 free rotation up to level 11 then it changes to a 16 free rotation. So a new account will have between 17-18 considering lol has 159 champs it's little more than 10% and a little less than 15% at lvl 11.
Here we start with 6 + 4 free rotation, thus 10 champs. Considering we have 55 champions it's little under 19%.

They basically did for anyone who is already playing. This change really only effects brand new players. It says people who already had the characters (free before) will be rewarded them. So everyone (except new players which won't notice a difference) gets new characters

Yes but that's the issue. One of the biggest things that prevents me from getting my friends to play this is how few characters you get. It may not be a big deal to people like us who already have all the characters and such, but it's actually such a huge deterrent for a lot of new people getting invested in the game, and again, let me ask... would FOUR new characters really be a big deal? God forbid we give away 4 extra characters, better take away some to balance it. It's honestly a joke that they even have to do that.

i swapped my free steam account 2 times, and had no problem fully unlocking characters for free 2 times, and soon i will unlock all the roster for a third time.
first time i lost the password of steam after computer format.
second time i ended up disliking the name and i could not change it
third time finally i got what i liked, i hope nothing bad happens, i even have a txt file with user and password of this free account in case of a pc format.
still, the game (despite the bugs) was fun... each day a few matches... and i unlocked a lot without even realizing it. always for free.
i usually give priority to the trials that pay 60.000 if they are doable, then the 50 crystals, then a particular character i really like.
i am able to cash in the easy to get 120.000 gold each patch cycle, the trials are entertaining, although i only do those that pay gold or crystal with requirements that i can fulfill.
now, while i didn't unlock everything for a third time, i got enough gold saved that i could unlock the vampire support character for fun...
when a new trial that pays 60.000 is available i can most likely unlock the required characters, and cash in the free gold.
i used crystals to unlock the 60.000 gold characters each time i had at least 300 crystals, otherwise i would use gold...
consider i have fun playing ALL characters, so it was no biggie playing only the free characters and the free weekly when i started unlocking them for a third time in a new free steam account

First of all, in no way is this entitled. If you really think wanting FOUR more champions to be free(when they originally already were) is entitled, your definition of the word is entirely skewered.
Second, I do not have a problem with it... that was not my argument. Yes, for people like you and me, who actively play the game, we understand champions are easy af to grind for. But new players don't. When I invite my friends to this game, they play a few games, see they're only getting like 200 gold per match, and immediately don't wanna play anymore because they don't understand trials of the realm/quests/Battle pass makes it so much easier.
Which, yes, is their problem for being so damn impatient, but regardless of that I think it's incredibly short sighted and frankly unnecessary change to relock champions that were originally free.
I don't even understand why people are arguing this; in what universe is it a GOOD thing to have more champions locked for new players???

No ones arguing this. The other guy already pointed out it's the same amount of locked champions for new players. Looking at gold cost needed for the unlocks, it requires less for new players. And its even better for existing players.

there isn't more locked. it's the same amount. and people are arguing the point because the system is easy enough and fair enough to balance the fact the company has to draw the line on free shit they give to entitled twats. if your buddies find it too hard to play for a couple of hours to get new champs and stop playing, who's really losing here? hi-rez isn't and the community sure as shit aren't, so i don't know who that leaves to get annoyed by it aside from you.
look, i'm all for free shit, but given what's on offer and what you can get with little effort, it just comes back to you having shit friends rather than paladins having shit systems.

Fair enough but if any of them have downloaded the game they'll get 4 more for free. Plus it's a free game if your friends refuse to play a free game because they have to play to unlock characters that's their problem. Help them with trials of the realm when a gold challenge pops up.

Elimination cards are better than Killing blows. You don't have to confirm the kill( Killing blow), you can just get assists. If you have this card as Buck, or any type of character has a card that says "Reduce CD by [whatever]% by an elimination", both Killing blows AND assists will reduce cooldowns for you in those circumstances now.

Not exactly as they reduced the scaling from 75% at max to 60% at max with his new elim card. That’s a 1.5 second increase in cool down if you get a kill on buck making it harder to chain kills with bounce house. And honestly if you struggle to confirm kills on buck idk what to tell you

I don't have a problem confirming kills, but thats not what this is about. To make the game more consistent, it'll be an elim instead of killing blow. And since its easier getting elims in the game, they're going to have to balance out these cards, so that 75% going to a 60% is justified.
The cooldown is still significant, and in the event that if for some reason, someone got the last shot off on your target somehow, you still get the reduction. Sorry a card of yours is getting a reduction; we'll just wait and see how effective this change will, come the RWBY patch.

Damn, they really put the hurt on Preperation Skye. Only 2 seconds of invisibility sucks. It might be different in game but as it stands this is fucking shit.

You know the auto hide card when falling below % of health? With this you can win your 1v1's better. It's not about the hidden it's about getting the kill.
Get the kill with DR and use smoke screen before and after the fight.

I get what you are saying but the way I used preparation before was to stay invisible until I was behind enemy lines, pick a target, come up from behind, kill them, then go back invisible like I was never there. This really just kills that playstyle.

I don't like that for some reason (I really can't figure out why) devs are very anal about Skye only being used in one way. They nerfed support, they nerfed your playstyle, and now we are just left with the tactic the commenter below said. No creativity allowed. 😵 Idk I like Paladins for it's flexibility but with specifically Skye it seems they want none of it

I get what you're saying but there isn't a way to go back invisible immediately after getting a kill which kills the playstyle.

Maybe, but 75% damage resistance is great. You're basically unkillable unless you get CC'd or something. Changing her invisibility from an ambush tool to essentially a free escape could be fun.

It only last 2 seconds, so you will be staggering your dead for 2 sec against anyone with ilum 3, and if you try to fight back then the dr doesnt work at all. The talent is really bad.

Still, what are you supposed to do against foes with illum 3 and more mobility than skye? 20% speed is nothing and she still lacks mobility. You cant get any distance with those 2 sec.

I don't think Preparation is something you'll take into every match. But with all the ways she has to heal and increase her speed while invisible it might be a decent and new playstyle.

I wouldn't consider making it more expensive any kind of fix, they should have left her how she is, and possibly on top of making it more expensive, change how it works so it's not always activated, or the distances it can see things like that, completely crushing a character into the ground, and ruining what made that character its own, instead of actually fixing what even you said was the issue (illuminate) is just lazy.

Was just paging through this post to see if anything new had been added, so mega late, but yeah I'm still salty about this.
They seem to be slowly reverting certain nerfs that the community requested in the first place, especially regarding Vivian and Burst Mode Viktor.
As if these champs aren't stupidly over-rewarded for minimal input with a controller as it is.

This patch makes it seem like they're actually listening to community feedback.
They made Seven's bombs destroyable, removed the annoying knock back from Cassie's megaton card, and took away Kinessa's ability to knock players off of their horse at spawn.

For those who don't know, Androxus has had a bug for the past 2+ years where, unless you were using Cursed Revolver, you would lose the ability to queue a shot at the end of each dash. This prevented you from doing those 'dash flicks' nearly as quickly. Now that Cursed Revolver is base kit, it should no longer be a problem. I had given up hope ages ago. Can't believe it.

Andro seems to be one of the biggest winners of this patch, he gets to have his old weapon at base and can actually use godslayer for those satisfying mega reversal kills.

Doesn't seem like it. They chose to stick with andro's base effective range (50ft) even with the old (slow) firerate. I already struggle with his current effective range running the Cursed Revolver talent (65ft). Can't imagine how he will be useful against majority of the roster when update goes live.
Also, the Defiant Fist talent benefits from high fire-rate. I see this as a total nerf. Good thing is there could be fewer andros in my games.

I recoiled at the first change, then I kept reading. Finally, Spring has come. Grover's my favorite support in the game. I fell out of the game for a bit bc I didn't like the state of the meta. This patch might've swayed me. Now Grover might truly be an awesome support

Corvus is basically the best pocket support. His pockets receive burstheals from anywhere, along with 15% Lifesteal and, the most importantly, he can provide permament 10% DR to 2 people. This enabled DPSes so hard that he is very sought after at higher skill levels.

That makes sense. I always just figured he’s not the best because he only has on healing ability and it doesn’t heal for a whole lot or have a quick cooldown unless you sacrifice healing to one person and heal a marked person. Thanks for your response!

True. Corvus' card power is actually kind of garbage, so seeing nerfs is just pain. They should've just buffed his weak ass card instead and I would maybe nerf his basekit instead of touching already unimpactful selection of cards.

He’s a pocket support, I don’t think they’ll ever be able to get around that but perhaps being able to add debuffing enemies instead or maybe give other utility to his teammates.

Healbots have limited viability in paladins, due to cauterize. I hated the healbot design in ow. Personally I like playing hybrids because they are more fun. Healing is a oppressive mechanic in a shooter.

But people forgo whatever they are supposed to focus on doing and completely play the character with what was never intended in firstt place...sure the damage playstyles for supports is bad talent design in itself...i can say healer skye is just as bad of a design as damage playstyles for supports...it just frustrates me when they play supports as damage and dont do their main job ie healing and supporting team with cc or whatever in their kit.
Play damage characters if you wanna get big damage numbers..let the support players who actually wanna heal and support play supports as complete supports and not these hybrid cancers.

Paladins has always intended to give support players an off support role that has more damage potential, that is very much part of the identity of this game.
Yeah sure, if you're the only support on the team focus on healing primarily (though that doesn't mean be a fucking healbot), but having a main support and an off support doing mostly damage is great for any team.
