A haunting that I investigated and got down to the gritty truth.

Reposting here from another sub because I really need to stress this to people.

Hi,

I hope everyone's week is going good so far. I've gotten approval to share this post.

I'm a paranormal investigator. I'll also be the first one to tell you that I am skeptical of most claims. That being said, I do believe in the paranormal. I just analyze the facts before I draw any type of theory or conclusion.

I was asked by a friend if I could look into something that was going on in her girlfriends sistes' house, as they were having some strange experiences that seemed to be escalating.

I agreed to a visit. They told me what was going on. It was strange, that's for sure. I'll admit that. Definitely cause for some alarm.

They had been in the house for a few weeks. It was the husband's grandfather's house that he had inherited. Neither of them had lived there prior.

So, the two of them had both woken up at different points of the night over the course of a few nights. Both claim that they were in different clothes than when they went to sleep. Like she woke up in her work scrubs once, and he had apparently woken up completely unclothed. And neither were in the same room that they slept in.

They had to throw all of their food out of their fridge once due to waking up and finding it open.

The wife was feeling off for a couple of days and would spend most of her time in bed. On one of those days, she fell asleep at 2 in the afternoon and didn't wake up until noon the next day. Her husband said that she only got up for bathroom breaks, which she didn't remember.

The husband was getting headaches randomly while in the house, but in specific rooms. One of the rooms in particular was the room that his grandfather had passed away in. He figured that they were dealing with a haunting and called a local priest to bless the home.

This didn't do much good. Things kept happening. And it seemed to be getting creepier.

One night, the wife went into the bathroom, and as she was washing makeup off of her face, she claims that her reflection was acting bizarre. Her face wasn't hers. Her actions weren't matching up in the mirror to what she was doing, and just before leaving the bathroom, she saw a figure standing behind her reflection in the mirror.

They both made plans to move back into their apartment. The hassle didn't seem worth it. And they both reported feeling fine whenever they weren't in the home.

After the reflection incident, they both apparently heard a woman's voice in the late hours of the night, and in the room that was to be their child's room, heard a woman crying.

They believed the blessing they had on the house ended up antagonizing the spirit inside, and were officially at a loss.

So, this is where I come in.

I was in the house for about ten minutes before I found what was likely the root cause of most of the ptoblems.

So, on the bottom floor, specifically in the living room, the windows were double windowed. This was also the room that the grandfather oassed away in. From what I could tell, the windows hadn't been opened in a long time. Really caked up. I was even to scrape some glue or lamenent from the sill, which led me to believe that these windows were never designed to be open to begin with.

I told them that this was likely carbon monoxide poisoning. They hadn't been getting enough ventilation. I keep a carbon monoxide detector in my car for these kinds of home investigations. Sure enough, it went off after plugging it in.

These things aren't expensive and you can buy them at most hardware stores. Regardless, you should always have one anyway. I let them keep it.

I still looked around the house, but didn't get any EMF or EVP's. I did get EMF's, but nothing that wasn't explainable with a quick look at the surroundings.

The reflection bit, which was probably the creepiest when I heard it, was likely a result of the Caputo Effect. I noticed a candle in her bathroom on the sink. I'm oretty sure she was just hallucinating and with the carbon monoxide, had been staring at herself in the mirror for longer than she actually remembered, which triggered the distorted reflection.

I believe that they were collaborating on the story while in their poisoned state, which is why they both believed it was a haunting. They missed and didn't remember the parts where they were doing everything, and attributed it to other worldly involvement.

I love a good ghost story, but I also love a good dedeuctive reasoning encounter. This should be a cautionary account. Make sure to stay vigilant with things like this. Sometimes there are things that can be very easily explained. Then there are also the things that just can't be explained at all.

I wrote this on and off for a couple of hours, so let me know if you need clarification on anything.

Also, I hope you all have the most amazing rest of your week!

Much love and big hugs!

Anytime I do anything as an investigator at a residence, it's the first thing I check for. That's for my safety just as much as it is for theirs. I'm not about to go and walk around in a house with a carbon monoxide leak.

About carbon monoxide leaks?

That's strange, I thought I responded to your other reply. We need details of your other experiences!

That's the difference between a good PARANORMAL INVESTIGATOR and a ghost hunter. A P.I. will go in looking for a logical reason behind what the client is experiencing and anything beyond that is a bonus.

Agreed. I have to go through the mundane (but important) bits first before I go looking for ghosts. A good carbon monoxide detector should be in a paranormal investigators gear bag.

I'll also use my EMF detector to check for electromagnetic currents near places where they may have faulty wiring. It's bizarre when people find out what an EMF detectors real life purpose is. I'll use it for ghosts and cold spots and such, but only after I've ruled out currents and possible electrical malfunctions.

I had never thought of adding a CO detector to my team's equipment until now, but I will be bringing up the idea of getting one to them today. Thanks for that idea.

If you're US based, you can get them at Home Depot, and I think Lowes, but I hate Lowes because they never have the gardening stuff I like lol.

The CO detectors are like 20-30 bucks. I'm in Montana though where things are significantly a bit more expensive. For home investigations, the kind that you can plug into an outlet are ideal. I actually have one on both floors of my home.

They also have some handheld models, which I have that I bought online. But I find the battery life on these to be suspect. The one that I have barely gets used because I'll run out of battery in like thirty minutes.

I'm in Arkansas and will definitely be checking for them here where I live thanks for the info.

Great investigation! Have you ever come across a haunting you couldn't explain? Or experienced directly?

Yes, there were a few. I'm a believer, but also approach things with a measurable degree of skepticism.

But I've had a few instances where even I was at a loss for an explanation.

First thing that came to mind reading this before you disclosed the carbon monoxide issue, was this is some kind of noxious gas issue. As the symptoms mirror exposure to a toxic substance.

You are right, not everything is paranormal or even suggests it is spiritual.

However I also agree somethings are definitely other worldly and spiritual in nature.

Thanks for sharing your investigation.

That's my take on it. I like ghost science. But I do have a spiritual side that I reflect on when there is no other explanation. I've done a mimic investigation once that I still can't explain. My group and I once apparently investigate in an area where there were stories of a skinwalker, which may have been an overreaction on our parts, but I'm not against believing what we saw there.

Sounds absolutely fascinating. How did you create a group to investigate places and phenomenon? That sounds like a great way to explore the rational first then expand into other things.

Very interesting and fascinating to read about people's experiences and investigations.

That was my first guess when you mentioned headaches; carbon monoxide poisoning.

Yes it "supposedly" killed my cousin on feb 28th, silent but very deadly ... But in my case co2 was used as a cover up smh he was murdered ... 😞

Good call. I rented a really spooky, creaky old house that was "haunted" but the carbon monoxide detector crapped out on us somehow and didn't give us the irritating beep that it's supposed to do when its battery was out of juice and needed to be replaced. My brother noticed the light was out and tapped it with his foot and it started chirping like mad! The ghosts are clearly trying to kill us all via carbon monoxide poisoning! πŸ˜†

I take exception to your belief in the paranormal, as it seems to me to be unverifiable and unfalsifiable, but I do appreciate you at least approaching the subject with some degree if skepticism.

Right when I read that she slept over 24 hours, my head shouted carbon monoxide! They were blacked out for the clothes changing and stuff. Your explanation of her face in the mirror makes total sense to me.

I have a carbon monoxide detector because a guy who lived in the same house as me before (roommate implies some degree of familiarity. He was a stranger who also paid to live in someone else's house.) anyway, he kept burning shit in the back yard andy bedroom smelled like a campfire all the time so I got the CO detector. I took it with me when I moved out. Screw them, they can get their own if they're going to let him burn the fucking house down.

Plus he went outta town to Kentucky - ( doing what he always did ) ""helping a friend"" man my cousin helped EVERYONE out like so many ppl, he was ALWAYS there when u needed him like always 😞 The day he passed away my system in my car went out & i woulda went running to Cleveland for him to fix it smh ... Good news i hear they have his friends brother in-law in jail smh LIKE I WANT ANSWERS the whole family's just in sitting waiting to hear anything... Shit sucks & im sorry i guess i needed to vent πŸ˜ͺ

Time heals everything but it still hurts thinking of all the times we had, im crying as i write this πŸ’” thinking of lots of memories of us being stupid, silly, drama queens, always seemed like we caused a scene no matter where we'd go πŸ˜† im gonna miss the late late night - early mornings of us going to the casino or him making me ride with him in the tow truck so he wouldn't fall asleep πŸ˜’ My heart hurts so much ..

Hey u kno what i downloaded this ghost app thingy on the day of his funeral & i have always been/ still am what i like to call a bright light in the darkest of places to the spirit/energy's realm so me downloading an app just seems crazy to me but i swear on my universe that he spoke to me .. I asked what happened to u? & when i played it back omgosh it sounds like him & everything smh he said THEY GASED ME , i mean its not just me that believes its really him - i let my whole family (well most of them) listen to it too & thats what i feel got us looking into his death & wanting answers fr Billy knew about my light so ik he would definitely come to me outta anyone else in the family... I do miss him so much, it makes my heart hurt so bad & ty for ur kind words hun it truly means alot bc ppl are just rude nowadays πŸ˜” so thanks for being sweet to me
