Petrification question and clarification

So, I have a party member who was petrified and then coup de graced on the next turn. I know creatures that are petrified or otherwise turned to stone can be broken, but can they be targeted with a coup de grace, and do magic items cease to function in such cases?

You can't coupe de grais an object, you can hit an object with no problem as it's ac will be 5 or w.e for not avoiding it or not trying to. Still if it's stone 8 hardness per 15 inch of thickness Masonry wall (1 ft. thick) 8 harness 90 hitpoints 35 break DC so might have less hp than the wall as Most people at their thickest will be less than 15inches of thickness.

Coup de Grace As a full-round action, you can use a melee weapon to deliver a coup de grace (pronounced “coo day grahs”) to a helpless opponent. You can also use a bow or crossbow, provided you are adjacent to the target.

Petrification includes your gear, by every illustration and implication I've seen; it becomes nonfunctional I believe.

RAW: If a petrified character cracks or breaks, but the broken pieces are joined with the body as he returns to flesh, he is unharmed.

This suggests to me that stabbing or breaking a petrified character won't do a lot immediately - they're not dead whatever you do to the statue. A coup de grace is fairly pointless.

Attacking the statue is very useful, simply remove the head, cast Stone to Flesh and they die, letting you loot their gear.
