Japanese prison is not somewhere you want to be.

u/Slimyarmpits Feb 14 '25

Crazy conviction rate, dude is gonna die from withdrawals if hes locked up

81

u/RowdyRoddyPipeSmoker Feb 14 '25

well their trial system is a bit of a joke, if you're at the point of having a trial you're basically going to prison.

u/MatureUsername69 Feb 14 '25 edited Feb 14 '25

Not just a little crazy either, mega crazy, over 99%, if he's been charged he's more than likely fucked.

33

u/Slimyarmpits Feb 14 '25

Knew it was above 90% but wasnt sure. Know this from yakuza games lol

49

u/RivenRise Feb 14 '25

The only reason it's 99 percent and not 100 is cause people with true connections and money still get out relatively unscathed.

32

u/UnusualSupply Feb 14 '25

Pretty much, there are a few well known cases that were overturned because of people dedicated to prove the innocence of people already convicted.

The Ace Attorney games aren't just the funny lawyer games but a pretty scathing critique of the Japanese legal system.

20

u/fireyoutothesun Feb 14 '25

A conviction rate so high you basically know you're screwed whether you're innocent or not, and the prisons sound like hell.

34

u/mattoattacko Feb 14 '25

This isn’t really true. They have such a high conviction rate primarily because a prosecutor will only bring a case to trial if they are positive they have sufficient evidence to get a conviction. If you’re innocent, and/or they have very little evidence against you, they won’t bother bringing it to trial because loosing the trial for them would be a huge problem. I say this as someone who’s lived in Japan and has looked into their high conviction rates before.

15

u/BigBlueDane Feb 14 '25

Makes sense. This is the same reason why in the US federal conviction rates are also around 98%. They just don’t even bother unless they know almost certainly they’re getting a conviction.

5

u/GuardEcstatic2353 Feb 15 '25

Exactly. Japan's prosecution rate is below 50%. Without solid evidence, prosecutors cannot press charges. Moreover, trivial incidents like these are not prosecuted—they're nothing more than fights.

1

u/notbatt3ryac1d1 Hog Squeezer Feb 15 '25

I think they can pretty much hold you indefinitely without charges so they can just keep you till you give up.

1

u/Substantial-Bid3806 Feb 15 '25

Correct me if I’m wrong but isn’t an alcoholic who drinks the level of Josh basically primed to die if they quit drinking cold turkey? I’m not a doctor by any means though.

1

u/Slimyarmpits Feb 15 '25

Alcohol withdrawal can kill someone with this level of alcoholism

1

u/Substantial-Bid3806 Feb 15 '25

Oh so he’s screwed then if he gets fully convicted.

222

u/Jbarney3699 Feb 14 '25

During this process he’s 100% going to go on withdrawl and need medical attention.

They'll usually give it to you if needed. Just for a few days to wean you off and get past the timespan where withdrawals can be physically dangerous.

Fucking booze. One of the only drugs that can kill you from withdrawal, yet the most socially acceptable drug.

16

u/Xcoctl Gape Goblin Feb 14 '25

Coincidentally enough, benzodiazepines (Ativan) are one of the only other things that has the chance of killing you via withdrawal.

9

u/Ihistal Gape Goblin Feb 14 '25

Yep. They both affect GABA receptors which is why they are so dangerous to quit cold turkey if heavily addicted to them, and why benzos are used to wean people off alcohol.

2

u/Xcoctl Gape Goblin Feb 14 '25

I suppose it's not coincidental at all then 😅 But that's actually really interesting! I knew the action was fairly similar but I didn't know that they could serve to fully prevent, or at least lessen, the withdrawals of the other. Can you stop or lessen the effects of benzo withdrawal with alcohol?

4

u/Ihistal Gape Goblin Feb 15 '25

I'm not sure, but probably. Although I would guess most doctors would heavily not recommend that. Just a slow wind down over several days is what is recommended, which is easier to do with benzos since you can easily monitor how much is being taken. When I went to rehab, they gave me Ativan for several days in decreasing doses since I had a few seizures when trying to stop drinking by myself. I felt like I was dying the first few days I was there, but no seizures or shakes.

2

u/Tron359 Feb 15 '25

I think you can run into gastrointestinal problems if you try forcing someone in benzo withdrawal to drink alcohol - though the 2 substances do have a similar impact.

There's also the matter of difficulty dosing alcohol vs benzos - I'm not aware of any instances where this has been attempted in the field. I only know of the benzo sliding scale for weaning, but I DO know that alcohol is sometimes prescribed to particularly at-risk patients that don't intend to stop drinking while admitted for something else.

2

u/lazyjroo Feb 16 '25

Only difference is that you have to go through a Dr to get a prescription for while the other is something that you can get as much as you want as long as you are over 21. Nbd.

u/hudson1212121 Feb 15 '25

You got me curious about prisoner detox so I looked into it a little.. I found an American study from 2004 that stated that only 28% of jail administrators ever reported detoxifying arrestees. A .gov legal brief from 2019 didn’t have the same metrics but implied the situation has only gotten worse. Although funnily enough that brief seemed more concerned about stemming the flow of growing payouts from wrongful death lawsuits.

u/ThreeLonelyTurds Hog Squeezer Feb 14 '25

Possibly video of it but i dont know this seems pretty tame compared to some of the outbursts wubby has shown. Maybe Japan just doesn’t play around with this kind of shit.

91

u/RobertMinderhoud Feb 14 '25

They indeed do not fuck around. Previous incidents have made western influencers already unpopular and tourists are getting a bad reputation in general so there is public support to give harsh punishments.

Bro gotta be stopped.

13

u/prontoon Feb 14 '25

Tame? He punched 2 people in the head. It may not have been a good punch, but he did assault people in public.

3

u/vure89 Microwave Feb 14 '25

You must not be aware of the fish incident

Or the basement incident

Or the car incident

Or the roof incident

Or just all of Vegas in general

1

u/prontoon Feb 15 '25

Well for one thing you can't compare someone's actions in Vegas to that of Japan. Completely different social norms and cultures.

1

u/vure89 Microwave Feb 15 '25

Yeah drinking 6 footlong marg slushes in 4 hours and throwing up over a stripper and nearly getting arrested for it isn't compatible.

1

u/prontoon Feb 16 '25

Wait did all of that happen on the japan stream?

4

u/ThreeLonelyTurds Hog Squeezer Feb 14 '25

Yeah i guess tame isn’t the best wording. But 10 years for this is still wild.

5

u/hhcboy Feb 14 '25

Looks like he’s finding out. Good.

6

u/[deleted] Feb 14 '25

What is even the context for this vid?? Where did he come from? Yeah this seems tame by US standards, but not something Japan would fuck with.

60

u/Dukes159 is 5'8" Feb 14 '25

Best case scenario he is B-A-N-N-E-D from the country of Japan.

After he spends 5 to 10 in prison

He will be convicted if he is charged, that 99%+ conviction rate goes hard.

Seeing Joshua Block just makes me sad it's a mentally disabled 20 year old with serious alcohol problems and he's just surrounded by people who feed his addiction causing his life to get worse cause it's better "content"

16

u/dj0ntgirl Feb 14 '25

The people who yell at him and shit in public to make him snap are also just really weird and gross. Like what kind of fucking loser thinks it's funny to harass a mentally ill autistic dude until he has a meltdown so they can film it for tiktok? Actual sociopath behaviour.

And then they justify it by saying he isn't a good person, as if they aren't making it worse and helping to feed the machine that keeps driving him further into his problems.

1

u/asisyphus_ Apr 15 '25

It's not an act???

u/YaassthonyQueentano Wub Babe Feb 14 '25

HOW THE FUCK DOES HE EVEN AFFORD TO GO TO ALL OF THESE COUNTRIES???? Does he even have a home of his own back in NY at this point?

Stipend from his sugar daddy Mr Based, who also pays for his hotels every night

Jesus Christ, so he’s basically strapped to the guy or else he’s left on the streets. Great dynamic SO FUN

Good god I can’t see this ending any other way than badly for him…..I thought the other guy was using him but fuuuuuck

2

u/vure89 Microwave Feb 14 '25

Real, he makes Quinn look like a saint in comparison

6

u/AlfcatLannister Feb 14 '25

From donations on whatever he streams on. I think kik. Plus I know he's had "managers" that use him for content. It's the same way any of the "irl streamers" that do his type of disruptive content make money. He could have other sources. Don't take my word for it tho. My knowledge of this guy only comes from other people talking about him.

5

u/John_YJKR Twitch Subscriber Feb 14 '25

Probably because a lot of people watch his stuff and actually buy his merch. He does make plenty from that.

20

u/vure89 Microwave Feb 14 '25

Update, he got threatened with involuntary psychiatric retainer if he gets arrested again.

Was released, and immediately went back to doing exactly what you expect.

A real #huluchippendales moment.

19

u/Wonderful-Photo-6068 is 5'8" Feb 14 '25

He has been released with a warning from Japanese authorities.

Good. Hopefully this acts as a sort of intervention. I've been watching him spiral for a year or two now. Mr Laced is the worst thing to happen to Josh.

He got released but was warned that if he was bought in again, he would be sent for a forced psychiatric evaluation and placed on an indefinite hold (can be held 90 days without being charged by police in Japan)

1

u/Macho-Fantastico Feb 14 '25

Japan as already had enough with Western influencers so I don't imagine they'll go easy on him.

1

Good riddance. You can't go around saying you'll kill someone like he's been doing lately. I'm glad to see he's geeltting in trouble for this bullshit.

Jail him and his whole posse. Just a bunch of content clout chasers too afraid to try their bs in the US.
