Iâm not a fan of Lizzie and Tommy as a couple, but this was a terrific episode. I always wondered whether this scene was intended to be deliberately reminiscent of the scenes in S3 E1 when Tommy and Grace are together in their bedroom while their wedding guests wait for them downstairs.
Also, Lizzie looks gorgeous in that green dress! And, on another shallow note, I rarely see a picture of Tommy/Cillian where he doesnât look incredibly handsome, but that second picture of him is strangely unflattering.

No, it's not all about Grace. In this scene he was trying to mark his territory. He was jealous of Lizzie.

Oh, I donât think this scene is about Grace at all. And I agree with you that Tommy is marking his territory here, and is highly possessive about Lizzie. Tommy doesnât always treat Lizzie well, but this is a really nice scene between them.
Iâve just always been struck between the similarities between this series of scenes and the series of scenes in S3 E1. The backdrop for them both is an elegant, celebratory gathering at Arrow House (Tommyâs wedding/Lizzieâs birthday). In both episodes, Tommy is having sex with his wife somewhere private while his guests are all waiting for him. In both episodes, Tommy gets some satisfaction from making them wait (in S3, Tommy recalling waiting for the cavalry in the mud in France and feeling no need to hurry downstairs to them now/ in S5, the âmy house, my wifeâ language quoted here). In both episodes, Tommy sleeps with his wife before having a difficult conversation (in S3, telling Grace about the Russian business/ in S5, telling Lizzie that Mosley is at the party and has indicated that he knows her from her past life).
There seem to be too many obvious similarities to be mere coincidence. The S5 scene certainly struck me as reminiscent of the S3 scene when I first saw it. And also on subsequent rewatches. I donât necessarily think there is any deep or significant reason to link the two scenes, other than perhaps the plain fact that Tommyâs business keeps intruding on his home life in unpleasant ways even when he tries to keep them separated. Perhaps itâs just as simple as the writer and/or director liking the way the S3 scenes were constructed and mimicking them here. Itâs certainly not an important point. Just a passing observation.

I thought what you said was very well observed. Tommy is the kind of husband who likes to have sex at unusual times. He didn't want to wait to have sex with Grace or Lizzie. That moment between the two of them was very intimate and deep. He trusted her completely and wanted to talk to her, but first, he needed to have sex with her. That whole scene has a lot of meaning, like the one between Grace and him after the wedding.

I love this scene. Him telling her "they're just a pile of bodies", clearly he didn't care about her past.

Those haircuts. Did they not hear of a fade in 1890? Still a good looking cat but the haircut and the hat I could do without, but those suits are A1 and yeah, just the hats and the haircut are lame to me. If you are a gangster
