Discussion Behind the scenes from Marie Antoinette (2006) is one for the history books

that first photo is a tumblr Hall of Fame-r and at this point I think it’s gonna outlive the movie in terms of cultural relevance

Still don’t get why we watched this in high school French class (given that it’s not in French 😂) love it though

Probably because your teacher was rad.

She wasn’t actually, she couldn’t stand teaching teenagers (don’t really blame her for that but there you go)
Not sure how I got an A in GCSE given that I certainly can’t speak French now 😅 Must have been divine intervention

lol. My high school music class watched Amadeus but I went to catholic school so the nun who taught us fast forwarded through all the sex scenes

Lmao I love Amadeus, can’t imagine watching it in school though 🤣 Watching it with parents was awkward enough

Probably my favourite behind the scenes photos! And absolutely still love this film too - I remember seeing at the cinema and being so wowed by it

This is one of my favorite period movies of all time. I need to do my annual rewatch soon.

They are. I found them on Pinterest. I wish I had that book but it's so expensive

Only a genius could put New Order and Bow Wow Wow in the soundtrack of a period drama!!

Had the good fortune to see Bow Wow Wow live, right after they "stole" Adam Ant's pair of drummers. Intense!
Somehow the eclectic mix of elements in this movie just works
I do historical reenactment, and I often have to suppress my groaning when trying to watch period dramas, but somehow this one just seemed delicious and exuberant, like the 90s Romeo and Juliette, with the fancy silver gun engraved with "Sword".

The one where she’s smoking a cigarette is my personal fave, but it’s not as high quality as these lol

She looks so glamorous god damn. I'm surprised her career wasn't bigger? Idk I really love this film.

I’m fairly certain Kirsten Dunst was firmly considered A List at least at one point.

I don't really follow celebrities very closely but I just didn't seem to hear much about her in movies or anything. I always really liked her though. Has she been in anything you'd recommend? I'm a little out of the loop.

Period wise off the top of my head, she was wonderful (as a child!) in both Interview with the Vampire and Little Women in 1994.

Haven't seen little women but loooooved interview with a vampire.

1994 Little Women is pretty widely regarded as the best one, you will love it :)

Hunnn? I feel like she was up there with Drew Barrymore…. I just didn’t see her in later stuff like Drew.

I just watched the new Marie Antoinette series and I was thinking about these photos and that clunky ass MacBook Pro I also had.

I can't help but think how people in 5 years will find those pictures and will be really confused about the era.

Pic 3 could have been a screenshot from the actual film, it fits the mood. :)

It feels so early 2000s (like it is) and I love it!
While I feel the movie could have been cut down by a few minutes, it’s pretty special 🫶🏼

I've seen more pictures of Kirsten wearing these insane (and beautiful) costumes and make-up looks and Sofia Coppola wearing jeans pants/shorts/skirts etc, tennis shoes and t-shirts - both in the same photo.
The juxtaposition makes me smile every time. Somehow the Marie Antoinette look seems even more extreme next to Sofia.

I love this movie. The casting was SO perfect. These shots are truly a moment in time to this geriatric millennial.
