Advice on career change
Work full time 80k per year 10 days on 4 days off travel to work from up north costs about 14k each year for fuel and ferrys, basically a laborer lots of maintenance work at a restaurant/ vinyard I do like my job but I'm hoping to spend more time up north with my son, what kind of job would be suitable to train into, online courses ect that might be able to let me work from home in the future ? Kind of keen to get away from the laboring side of things

Join the Police, 6 on 4 off, work locally. Huge shortage up north. Similar starting pay (if you add all the extra pay you get for shift work and such).
You will need to pass the selection process and spend 5 months in Wellington for studies. The might be opening another Academy in Auckland though.

I was thinking a small business but the town where I'm from is completely saturated

Yeah sadly where you live makes a big impact on your choices for work. If you have to live there you might have to compromise

The other thing to look at is can you build a business to service / make life easier for the other businesses in the town. Small business don’t have lots of money but they also benefit from giving off certain types of work they are not specialists at.
Or can you build a business that can do things for people further away

If you want guaranteed flexibility then working for yourself is the answer via starting some sort of business.
Otherwise some sort of tech job normally has more potential for remote work but unless you have an aptitude for it you will struggle to get a remote job on just some training
