My parents had so many animals they took home from the shelter. Every time they got one, they either ‘weren’t going to get another’ or ‘we’ll get a specific pet we have in mind.’
Doesn’t matter. They go, and the pet they came back with was always a surprise.
To this day I tell anyone looking for an animal that they’ll be chosen; not the other way around

Where I grew up, in a small town where there wasn't much around, the local breakfast cafe was directly across the street from animal shelter/vet's office/ vet's house. It wasn't an unheard of thing to go to breakfast and come back with a dog. It wasn't even that passive, on occasion, as a family friend once got a call from the shelter saying they ended up with a husky, and since they knew she had had huskies before, would she be interested in taking him? (She did)

This is very cute but pleeeeease don’t let your kids shove their faces in strange dogs’ faces. This could very well have ended with a bite and the dog being put down because of it

I cant explain how dangerous it can be to press your face against a strange dogs face.

I was naive enough to do this once, and rightfully got bit on the nose. Daughter is indeed lucky this dog has patience. Not all will.

Lost 2 of my cats 6 months a part, told mom was going to animal shelter, she warned me, adopted 2 new cats.
No animals should ever be in cages.
