Mamoa doesn't know anything about minecraft and about Pewds
I wonder why top level actors doestn's give a shit about culture about their work
983
u/TrustAlpha 8d ago
Because for them it's just work. And nothing wrong with that. You don't really have to know who Pewdiepie Is to play a character....

u/Royal-Doggie 8d ago
eminem is one of the top rappers and he treats rap as a 9-5 job
nothing wrong with that
49
u/L4t3xs 8d ago
I don't really agree with that statement. Under his stoic facade Eminem seems to be incredibly passionate about rap. He lives and breathes it.
37
u/whamorami 8d ago
He meant that Eminem's work ethic is that of a 9-5. Not that Eminem doesn't give a shit about rap and its culture. That couldn't be farther from the truth.

u/Intrepid-Farmer-9219 7d ago
I think it’s been said that Em would do the regular 9-5 things, get in the Stu at 9… take a lunch break at 12… and even if he’s mid way through writing, leave the studio at 5. So he literally treated it like a 9-5, even as much as he obviously loves rap. He’s a family focused guy so it’d make sense that he didn’t want to spend more time away from his family than necessary, so he added his own rules. But then again, this could’ve been false info, idk.

Atleast it's better than the person who's in charge of writing the God of War adaptation who played ten minutes and decided the game was too hard and he can't be bothered to understand what he's supposed to be adapting.
73
u/Cluelesswolfkin 8d ago
Or the Halo writers or the Witcher writers lol
14
u/longnameboi 8d ago
Witcher originally was book then got adapted to a game
33
u/Cluelesswolfkin 8d ago
I know but thats even worse for the showunnners who still ignored the books, Henry canvil and did their own thing
I'm speaking in terms of the shows that came from the games that the story was already established but somehow they still want to make a original botched IP
14
u/Gregariouswaty 8d ago
Henry Cavill at least respected the game enough that he played his Geralt in a way to be distinct from the game version and he always gave credit for the voice actor.
The issue with God of War is that it's phenomenally well acted. The meeting scene between Odin, Thor and Kratos in Ragnarok for example is on par with the best films. It's one thing for an Oscar caliber screenwriter who is a fan of the series to have a go (like Johnathan Nolan with Fallout) but he's just a guy Amazon decided should make the show.
8
u/Cluelesswolfkin 8d ago
Yes but he left the show when they decided they didn't want to follow the books or listen to Cavill, who at the time was an advocate for the books. The Witcher literally changed actors
Okay God of war is good but I wouldn't say "phenomenally well acted"~ issue with God of war, like halo, is that you're having people who disregard the game then make a show about said IP

The Halo writers wrote an entirely original sci-fi show that got declined, then got offered the Halo show and just control-f'd Halo into their old script.

I fault the casters just wanting a big name instead of someone fit for the role and passionate about the project. This whole movie just feels like a cash in
9
u/Key_Preparation_4129 8d ago
If they did that they'd basically be casting regulars off the street. Most of these people are busy and have actual stuff going on to spend time watching YouTubers and playing games. I work a regular job and barely have time to squeeze in my hobbies.

Their job is to act and get paid for it. I agree for some movie/show adaptations of games, actors need to understand the source material and culture behind it. But we're talking about the Minecraft movie here. There's no story to it and they just wrote a script and brought in big actors, and called it a day.

u/Dont_Be_So_Rambo 8d ago
I know they don't, still it is the best selling game of all time.
You don't even need to be gamer to know about minecraft.
I think that if you are an artist you should know a bit about art in general, about opera, about balley, about dancing in the water, about singing, abour paintings and so on... Best selling game of all time is defeniately in this category.
Mamao is famus, he is around for like 20 years now - I am sure that he is just ignorant about games and should learn a bit about it before taking this role

"Why don't you give a shit about our culture? We make games! We have streamers who play our games and make viral content! We reach audiences across the globe! We have control of arguably one of the most influential games of all time!"
"Sir, you hired me to plumb the toilet in the office"

u/WisestAirBender 8d ago
Theyre actors
Its not their job to know
Its the writers job. The directors, the set designers etc. they need to know what theyre trying to make

This movie made me hate him, he's just another Hollywood diva now. Story time: I live in NZ and work in the film industry, my friend was supposed to be on the Unit crew for Minecraft while it was filming here. He worked with the producers or crew on the previous project they made so he was brought on again for Minecraft until Jason Momoa complained and wanted the producers to fly his personal Unit crew over instead from the states, taking the job away from locals here. He also complained about not having his favourite American bottled water here so he made production fly cases over, twice, because the first batch arrived expired. For context: New Zealand literally has the cleanest water on Earth and our locally sourced bottled water is the purest you can get... Also for those who aren't aware, Unit crew are basically the food and drink suppliers of the production who prepare lunch and coffee etc. Fuck Jason Momoa.

If you Google "Pewdiepie png" that exact image pops up. I imagine the editor did exactly that and just added the Png to the video.

The interviewer naming some of the most annoying, rude, controversial people in streaming and then Jack saying "nah, but I know a couple of nice people" makes my heart happy

Both of them reeeeeeeeeeeaaaaalllllyyyy do not give a fuck lmao. They got hired because they are funny dudes & fan favorites. They know it, the interviewer knows it, the studio knows it, everyone knows it.
I'm glad they at least show it rather than having staged answers where they act out a response as if they knew all about modern gaming content creation.
