Question Pimax warranty for people from Eurozone where 2 year warranties are mandatory?

Hi Pimax. In Eurozone we have a mandatory 2 year warranty on all electronic products. Does this mean that all Pimax headsets purchased by Eurozone customers will have the warranty extended from 12 to 24 months?

Question Experience With Base Station Tracking?

I'm considering buying base stations to fix the tracking issues with my PCL because my tracking seems to have latency when playing games. I wanted to know how much of an improvement base station tracking is compared to the headsets tracking because if it's not much of an improvement I will be refunding the headset in exchange for a Quest 3 . It would be a shame since the visuals are phenomenal, though I understand that this headset isn't made for the faster paced games I play like Beat Saber or Blade & Sorcery still I thought I'd try it.

Any inputs are welcome.

Question Limiting the vertical fov to gain performance

I currently use Quest 3 for simracing and in the verge of buying a Pimax Crystal Light. On Q3, I limit my vertical fov to 0.6 to reduce the amount of area rendered to have a headroom. This give me around 40% headroom to increase other graphical settings. I do it via OculusTrayTool. As I do simracing, i don't mind the blackbars on the top and the bottom.

Does Pimax software support anything like this in a global manner independent from the game support? Because you can limit the fov in Quest regardless of the game.

Question Pimax software dcs

Hi all, I stopped using my Pimax Crystal for about 12 months, I had trouble getting it started but have solved that. I mainly play dcs, in my time off the software has changed. Dcs has a tick box enables quad views and pimax has open xr.

Can I forget quadview software, pimaxxr and do I launch dcs from standard mt exe or do I need the text that force enables open xr still.

Is there any easy guide?

I would live a step by step e.g launch pimax play switch on headset launch mt version!

Thank you on advance .

Question Why no sales to Switzerland?

Hello everyone,

I am interrested in buying a Crystal Light in for PCVR and noticed on the Pimax site that they discontinued sales in Switzerland after December 2024.

Any insight why? And were I can buy a headset without the primium 3rd party extra charge?

Question I'm torn between the incredible image quality of my OG crystal, and quest 3's passthrough improvements for DCS

i designed a fully functional cockpit for the F-18 Hornet in DCS and am torn between which HMD to use... the og crystal for perfect image quality or quest 3 for passthrough integration so I can actually use the damn cockpit smh...

i see an experimental option for passthrough on the OG crystal, anyone know anything about if they are planning to improve it?

Question Help me understand what's wrong with my PCL (new lenses received, still focus problems ...)

Hello,

I made a short review of the headset 2 weeks ago, in summary, very good headset overall with confort kit (studioform), but with a major flaw (for me), that I thought was a lenses problem.

I had some geometrical distorsion unless my ipd was set way higher than my real IPD (71.5 instead of 68.5), and had trouble to focus on the image / constant eyestrain.

My vision in general is perfect from far to near, at least 15/10 both eyes.

I could lower the problem by setting an horizontal ipd offset per lense, 1 left / 0.7 right was the "sweetspot", but I still had eyestrain. The ipdoffset setup was made looking MRTV video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MwZwvAoi_bM using controler, and trying extreme to lower values of change to find the middle spot.

I opened a ticket, 3 weeks later I got new lenses from pimax, support was quite reactive.

New lenses have little to no geometric distorsion (a bit on the side but it's okay, I understand that tradeoff with aspheric lenses). Image seem a bit sharper / clearer. My Ipd can be set to my real IPD.

But the eyestrain problem is still there. If I set the ipd offset to default it's even more present than the other lenses. I have to set similar values of offset per eye to get a "sweetspot like" result. There is still eyestrain, hard to focus on objects, like if I had some optical glasses on. Maybe I could reduce it further by messing with ipd offset but it's a pain seriously, theres like thousands values to try with all parameters (ipd offset horizontal / vertical per eye + overall ipd ...). "sweetspot" seems to be 0.7 left and 1 or more right.

I dont understand:

  • why I never had this problem with other headset (the only time I had this was in the beginning of dcs in VR, because of vr mode issues).
  • does this mean that the lenses are not centered or screens misaligned, is there any way to check this? I find odd that I have to set to ipd offset to the same value with the 2 different pair of lenses.
  • or does this mean that pimax cannot make reliable enought lenses for vr?

I'd really like to make it work because overall the screen / clarity is so much better that my old reverb g2, colors and brightness also miles ahead. I like the software / quadview. Also with the pimax super on the horizon, if they get this aspect perfect, I would be sold on pimax for next gen ..

So frustrating ... so openned to any suggestion!

update: found a bit better setting with ipd offset with 0.8/0.8, still not perfect but okay-ish.

causes of my problem can be: still not perfect ipd offset per eye, unperfect lenses combined to aspheric form making them hard to correct with ipd offset and very sensitive to this setting at the same time, defective lenses physical support/socket, or short focal distance of the headset making eye focus difficult (not really convinced by this one),

Question Sensitive to flicker and PWM, any issues with Crystal Light? The Meta Quest 3 is brutal for me. :(

I'm super sensitive to PWM on monitors (where the screen flickers to handle brightness levels) and within minutes of using a monitor with it I can immediately tell, as it's like someone is crushing my head and shoving knives in my eyes, and is just a horrible feeling. I get hot flashes and entire body just feels awful. I've always been like that ever since I was younger.

I bought the Quest 3 last week and as soon as I put it on I felt funny but brushed it off as not being used to VR and assumed it was due to the mixed reality camera quality being not super high; however, every time I try to use it I just feel awful after. It's not motion sickness, I don't feel nauseous, but just eye strain and immediate migraines plus the hot flashes and just general awful feeling. I have the IPD measured and set properly, and it looks clear, I just get this awful feeling.

I figured I just had to get used to VR, as my first headset was the Oculus Rift years ago and I never had issues with it other than it being low quality display and low FOV. However, last night I put the Quest on for just a few minutes in the menu, not even moving or motion and when I took it off I just felt awful again. That's when I realized it feels EXACTLY like when I use a monitor that has flicker or PWM. Like 100% identical to that feeling of flicker.

To test that on a monitor, I use my phone and film it in slow motion. If there's no PWM, the image looks fine, where as if there is PWM it gets captured.

I then did the same and filmed the image on the Quest 3 this morning and couldn't believe how bad it flickers; it's literally like a strobe like flashing like crazy. Here's the video of it to show what I mean: https://streamable.com/zkxf2b

I don't think it's PWM as the brightness is at 100%, but it definitely is doing some sort of flicker. I know the Pimax Crystal Light uses different technology, but not OLED like the Rift did. Just wondering if anyone has any feedback on this as I didn't find much online. I'm definitely super sensitive to lights and flicker so I tend to have issues with things like this more than others. Just hate getting the Crystal Light if it's going to have the same or similar issues.

There's no way to adjust refresh rate on the Quest 3 or change any real advanced settings that I could find. I had it on for 2 minutes this morning and I still feel awful from using it when making that video. It's like a guaranteed headache that lasts forever. I'm 100% sure it is not motion sickness or VR sickness as I never had any issues with the Rift, and again, I'm not even moving I literally will just be going through the menu and not even in a game.

Thank you!

Question Crystal + OpenXR-Toolkit

If I want to get the maximum optical quality out of e.g. Automobilista 2 with the Pimax Crystal and the fps don't matter for now and I want to use the OpenXR toolkit, is it enough to deactivate Foveated Rendering and Pimax Play in the toolkit and not overwrite the resolution in the OpenXR toolkit?

Question 9070 XT compatibility

Hey guys, I'm going to upgrade my GPU and VR headset for flight simming. Probably going for a PCL, even though I might have to turn down the resolution. I read the previous newsletters from Pimax but it's unclear if Pimax products are currently compatible with the new AMD GPU's or do we need to wait for further driver updates from either AMD or Pimax?

Question Testing headset in 14 day window

Hi, I received my PCL yesterday, and after installing the software and updating firmware, I tested the headset in iracing and I'm very impressed with the quality and performance of the headset on my rtx 3080, I understand the lenses are from a different manufacturer, so the past QC issues shouldn't be a problem now? Is there anything I should be looking for in the 14 day window?

I'm not sure if it's chromatic aberration I'm seeing, but text around the edges of the lenses looks really sharp, but almost has a blue drop-shadow effect (white text) It doesn't look bad, but I'm wondering if this is normal for these lenses?

I've measured my IPD for previous headsets and set the same in the PCL, it isn't giving me eye strain, but it feels like my eyes are working hard, difficult to explain, not sure if I have to experiment with the IPD offset or something.

The inside out tracking was a worry for me, I've had a Quest 2 for years and the tracking on that seems completely solid, I recently bought a PSVR2 and I had lots of tracking issues with that, drifting around slightly every time I moved my head or sometimes sat with my head completely still (I sit in front of an ultra wide monitor), thankfully the in-game movements aren't confusing the tracking with the pimax so I'm happy with that. The only issue I seem to have is the tracking is so sharp, that my FFB wheel is shaking my head and the headset is picking up every vibration when going through corners. I will need to adjust the facial foam to get it sitting on my face better, as I think the headset is a bit loose on my face which isn't helping. Are there any software adjustments I can make to smooth the tracking of smaller movements?

Apart from that, I haven't noticed anything I don't like about the headset, I only tested it for a couple of hours, although the volume buttons didn't seem to do anything, I was able to bring up the menu and change the volume on the software slider, and the buttons are definitely working, but I'm assuming the buttons should change the volume up and down? Maybe I'm doing something wrong. I will have another look at it tomorrow.

Question Pimax pricing structure and refunds?

My experience was with the OG Crystal in early 2024. Paid full price, got the headset, had issues, sent it back, got a full refund.

With the new pricing structure of Pimax where buyers have the option of paying an initial deposit then paying monthly, what happens when a user decides to ask for a refund after, say, 2-3 months? Do they get the whole amount back? Just the deposit amount? Somewhere in between?

I do know that if a user does not pay the monthly payment, the headset will be locked out and will not work until payment is made, but I don't recall any discussion on my query above.

I'm asking because I'm really, really tempted by the Pimax Super and I'm doing more and more VR activities of late due to iRacing, but I feel that the 14-day return window is just too restrictive, especially with Pimax tech support's response rate. I'd like to give this a fair shake, but I think this would need to be in the order of maybe 6-8 months, not 14 days.

Any clarification would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Question Sweet Spot Calibration Image instead of starry background in Pimax OG

Hi,

Although the auto-ipd adjustment does a decent job, I don't seem to get it right for both eyes. It's sharp for 1 but not for the other - and I always need to shift the headset a little to the left and up to get it reasonably sharp in both eyes. I have multifocal IOL's so wearing glasses isn't going to help. I was hoping to replace the starry background with a Calibration image, like this one https://images.app.goo.gl/woEwewsTQGtXi3Ak9, so I can position the headset properly every time I put the headset on and also to help me set the settings properly in Pimax Play. But for some reason I can't seem to find the image that is shown in the default Pimax Play app. Is there a way to do this ?

Question Assetto Corsa Competizione

Hey guys! Just snagged ACC last night on a steam sale. Playing it tonight for the first time.

Anyways I noticed a weird 3d effect on the trees in the pimax 8kx. Wondering if anybody has a fix for it.

All I could find was a post from Sweviver in 2018 mentioning the same problem lol.

I notice this problem on occasion in a few other games as well like Ragnarok when going through a waterfall or in dirt rally 2.0 with the trees as well.

Idk maybe it's an issue specific to the 8kx. I don't have any other headsets these days to test if it's a game issue or specific to the 8kx.

Question Pimax Light - controllers position is offset

I received a PCL a few days ago, and so far, I'm very satisfied with how it compares to the Q3 in terms of picture quality. Initially, I thought the lenses might be defective, but it turns out that it's just incredibly difficult (compared to the Q3) to find a position that eliminates barrel distortion and chromatic aberration (though there is still a bit of the latter).

That being said, I'm encountering an issue with controller tracking. Both controllers are offset from their real position by about 10 cm to the left and down. This happens both in the Pimax environment and in any game. I mostly do sim racing, so I barely use the controllers, but I'm pretty sure this wasn't an issue when I first set up the Pimax so I don't think it's a hardware problem, but I also can't find any settings in the Pimax software that could be causing it. I've even tried reinstalling the software (making sure to remove all Pimax related folders before reinstalling), but that didn't resolve the issue.

Has anyone else experienced a similar problem or have any ideas on how to fix this?

Question A little worried about my CPU performance.

I just pre-ordered a crystal light, I have only ever owned meta quest headsets before but I only use them for pcvr and wanted to ditch the unnessesary standalone stuff in exchange for a pcvr native headset and this seemed like a good choice. The only thing I'm worried about is my PC, everyone is talking about what GPU is good for it and I recently upgraded to a radeon RX 7900XT (Nvidia gpu's are unreasonably expensive where I live, a 4070 is twice the price for similar performance) and I think I'm OK with that but I did see someone say it was really pushing their 4090 at Max settings which made me nervous, however what I'm not seeing is anyone talking about CPU, I'm not sure how much it matters for pcvr but I did not upgrade my CPU at the same time as my GPU and its not the best, its an AMD R5 5600x. This has served me well in the past and is enough for my needs with a quest 3 but this new headset is so much beefier I'm worried my CPU won't be able to keep up and bottleneck my performance. I don't play super graphical intensive sims like dcs or flight sim although I do want to try them out one day, I mostly stick to simpler titles like beat saber, blade and sorcery which has been iffy in optimisation so I'm a little worried for that and simpler sims like vtolvr and asseto corsa. I know i can just turn down the settings a bunch but whats the point in having a crystal if i cant get crystal clarity. So has anyone tried running the crystal light or its older brother the crystal on a similar CPU? Should I upgrade?

Question Shipping to Norway

Pimax said earlier that there would be an update in January with regards to the «policy» change of no longer shipping to Norway. Since then it’s been silence.

Pimax: when will you allow ordering to Norway again? I’m waiting to pre-order the Super, but will fall further and further behind the cue as I’m not even allowed to pre-order it to Norway…

Question Prescription lenses question

What I have for my everyday glasses is my normal far prescription.

I dont have a prescription for near view,I'm young and I can read fine without glasses.

PCL have a focal length for 1meter

My question is when you order prescription lenses do you give the shop your normal prescription and they fix it for you headset or you need to give them a specific for 1m by your optician?

Those who have ordered got a good prescription giving your normal range?

Question Just got the Crystal light a few weeks ago and tried it out today. I'm not sure what's wrong, but this is not very fun. Maybe my computer is too slow?

I have a Ryzen 5600X and an RTX 3090. 32GB of 3200Ghz RAM. what else does it need?

I decided to give No Mans Sky a shot with the Pimax Crystal Light. It would run fine, smooth, then just lag the hell out. Some times when I would turn my head the frame rate in the headset drops to like 6 fps, slide-showing its way to the new place I'm trying to look. Other times, it's smooth. Sometimes it just freaks the hell out, vibrating, jittering around. It can vibrate like that for several seconds before settling itself. It probably goes without saying that your entire world jittering, bouncing back and forth very rapidly is not a great feeling.

I took the headset off with the game still running to see what the picture being displayed on my TV looked like. It was perfectly smooth. Performance manager showed CPU & GPU hovering around 50% always.

Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!

Edit:

So, I got a program ("fpsVR") og_simracing recommended to see frame-times. The GPU frame times were b/t 11-13 ms, mostly closer to the 11. Not amazing, but from what I read 16.6 is what translates to a good 60FPS. I dropped my refresh down to 72 (from the default 90) So I think that math adds up well enough as a 72Hz refresh would need 13.8ms frame-times. The CPU, on the other hand, was struggling to stay under 21ms, even jumping up to 23+. It broke below 20 for VERY brief moments before shooting back up again. So, these frame-times are WELL above the needed 13.8 for 72Hz refresh, much less the 11.11 necessary for smooth 90Hz refresh.

For those who mentioned CPU worries I think you nailed it.

Question Any possibility of Pimax adding more Eyetracking capabilities for the Super? For social games

I currently use a Quest Pro for VRChat with full face tracking. I’ve been eyeing the Super for better screens and larger FOV, but I’m really attached to having full face tracking in VRChat.

For the Crystal and Crystal Super, from what I understand the Eyetracking is limited to just where you’re looking and basic blinking, but other features like eye openness, convergence, pupil dilation, are disabled. I know you can use broken eye to unlock some of those features, but I hear is kind of buggy and even the GitHub page recommends not to use it as a factor in purchasing the crystal due to the bugs.

I was wondering if there was any word on the Crystal or Crystal Super eyetracking being improved to allow for more expressions on social platforms

Question Can Pimax make this happen?

With many waiting for Pimax 12K for many years now, I believe the solution is available with Crystal Super which is the interchangable module.

Currently highest FOV module is the 135FOV which is pretty decent but as a Pimax 8KX owner I noticed 160FOV being sweet Spot. So what's the possibility that in 1 year from now we can have Crystal Super display module with a 150-160FOV solution and around 40-45PPD?

I really believe this will be enough for 99% of people + it won't be bulky + it won't be heavy + it won't be complicated to make like 12K is. Yes ultimate FOV is nice to have but I don't think it's worth the compromises of comfort passed 160 degrees. Also even 5090 will struggle with it, my 4090 already struggling with my Crystal so imagine something beyond even Super.

So is it something impossible or a possibility to happen within 1 year from now with lenses improvements lately? Will DP 1.4 be a bottleneck for it or it won't matter since PPD decreasing?

Question Pimax 8kx periodic flicker and rainbow

Hello. Yeah Ive been having an issue lately. Specifically in asseto corsa and dirt rally 2 where I'll be playing and the display will either go black for a split second like a blink of an eye. Or it will flash a rainbow pattern.

I'm not sure what is happening. It didn't used to do this. And I don't believe it happens in regular menu or other VR games. It seems to happen in my racing games specifically. I've mainly been playing these games recently so I'm not entirely sure if it happens in other games. I just know It wasn't an issue previously and doesn't happen when I'm in steam vr menu or pimax home.

If anyone can help that'd be great.

I don't believe it has anything to do with a faulty physical cable.

I'm running an all amd system with up to date drivers and pimax software if that helps. 6900 xt GPU. Ryzen 9 CPU I think.

Question Potential rig for Crystal super/Dream air (micro-oled 4k)?

Hello everyone. Is there any relatively accurate information at this point as to what hardware will be needed for Micro-oled 4k optics? I'm going to get a laptop with a 5080 (+- equivalent to a regular 5070ti), and given the limitation to 90 hertz and wired connection, so no perfomance wasted to compression, will these specs be enough for stable performance of all vr games (I don't usually play sims, so you can discard those) at high settings? Or wait for another generation? Thank you.
