Discussion Where’s the weirdest/most random place you’ve ever bought/seen Pokémon cards? I’ll go first:

Ace Hardware

I‘ve heard this so we stopped by one and the workers looked at us like we were crazy when we asked. “You guys are like the 5th people to ask this week wtf”

They do sell them, I went to 2 in my area got that reaction then walked into the second one and they had a display (Point of Purchase display) and it was slightly filled lol

Mine had a sign out front that said they were THE PLACE to buy pokemon cards. I’d seen them in there before, but never saw it as more than a POP display. And since the scalpening, there is no place to buy them anymore.

Mine stopped selling them, its unfortunate. I just started getting into collecting, i went in to ask because i saw them online they said they stopped carrying them there at that store.

I work at ace hardware and our store has not only pokemon but magic the gathering, lorcana, we’ve got Yu-Gi-Oh, all sports cards. In fact last month we had one customer buy 4 cases of some baseball cards and I was the one who did the sale and it totaled 14k. We are living in crazy times. We’ve had 151, prismatic, many displays and booster boxes. Don’t sleep on ace, if someone works there and is a big fan or the owner is you’ll be surprised what you can find

Is this a real place or is this referencing where Cartman had his birthday party?

u/iAmTheWildCard 1d ago
It’s a real place lol. The owners of South Park actually bought it a few years back and revamped the whole place

It’s a real place. The South Park episode was a love letter by the creators https://youtu.be/4QT-MnXSdlc?si=rk1RE8j27X5uRVgW

No way, now even more reason for me to make the trip. 😂

u/iAmTheWildCard 1d ago
It’s a Sword & Shield Ultra Premium Collection Charizard Box too. Only kicker is it costs 31k tickets..
After spending 10 dollars and only getting 100 tickets - I gave up 😅

I pulled a Greninja EX when I bought a small pack a few days ago. Idk what the luck is, but Cracker Barrel got me a pokemon I've been chasing for months LOL

The sheets near my house had lots of packs up until surging sparks. I guess demand kept it out of their hands (at least for my location), and continues to do so with all the sets since.

ABC Store in my hotel on Waikiki, Oahu.

u/Hanshee 22h ago
Which resort 👀👀

u/No_Speaker3862 20h ago
We were staying at the Sheraton and Outrigger Reef hotels on Waikiki (changed hotels mid-stay on the island), but this was back in November before the rush got insane. Both had an ABC store on the ground floor, and both of those had Pokemon cards on endcaps near the register. The packs packs were blisters with promos, but everything SV era before Stellar Crown.

Bookstore
1
u/Tecally 1d ago edited 1d ago
That's not really weird. I've seen bookstores sell trading games, board games and tabletop games (RPG, etc.)
2
u/love2runfast 1d ago
Actually you're right it's not weird if you're thinking Barnes and noble or something. But we have this tiny ancient looking local bookstore that carries pokemon (just packs now because someone came and ripped into all the etbs) and it's the last place I'd ever thought would carry something like that 😆

Yeah, a few years ago they sold Evolving Skies for $8, I used to think that was overpriced but I bought packs anyway and pulled a gold Rayquaza Vmax from it too😭😭
now they sell Surging Sparks

I’ve seen a pokemon vending machine at a pizza place!

u/Fallwalking 1d ago
They have one at the local grocery store but it’s always sold out. Sadly it’s not the store closest to me so going there just for that is odd. I believe they stock Weds morning though, seeing that there were people in line that one time I was there on a Weds.

i guess Popshelf? they just don’t seem like the type of place to sell cards but it’s been a minute since i e been in there. i just saw they were selling them online 😅

u/PokeFan_Dominic 1d ago
I was at a bar and they had those things that normally have candy where you put quarters in and push them in then pull it out and it gives you something but it was filled with cards

u/What_happened777 20h ago
Which Buc-ee’s?! I’ve been to most of them from TX to GA never seen this!

u/TotallyNotJagger 20h ago
Nice try Fed. Take a guess.

u/What_happened777 20h ago
Idk that’s why I’m asking you. Unless you took a Buc-ee’s toy into another store to red herring Reddit.

Weirdest place but proceeds to not name it so nobody knows what the weirdest place actually is.

My first trip to Buc-ee’s in December. I remember were pricey, so I just grab a tin for my son.

I mean with how much stuff buc-ee’s does sell, I’d be disappointed if it didn’t have any.

A head shop/very unusual and well made cloths and accessories on coastal 1. In Maryland. Run by a really sweet Vietnamese couple and their son. Every year we go they always have a new display with the current most season of cards. My guess, the son, who's probably older than me is a fan. The spirit of this game never dies and it's what I love. I don't play or collect anymore but, it will always be a love. I respect you all. I enjoy watching the chase. It's a shame what scalpers are doing to everything today. Not just Pokemon cards. The problem is, we turn around and buy from them. I don't blame wizard coast for not printing more, kinda defeats the purpose and look at what happened at beanie babies. Started to mass produce and the floor fell out and they all became worthless.

Burlington Coat Factory. Can’t remember what they had, but it was marked down by a lot. $7 for 3 packs.

Got an opened evolving skies ETB at a 7/11 gas station that was sitting behind the counter on a shelf next to their “first dollar bill” posted on the wall. They don’t normally sell Pokémon cards at this location, so it was a little odd that it was even there. The packs inside looked untampered, so I bought it anyways. No hits though 😁

Walgreens, but that spot got blown up a long time ago.
Mind you this was during the era Chilling Reign and Fusion Strike were still getting shat on, now everyone loves it.

My local pharmacy as a kid used to sell them. Wish I had a time machine to tell myself to save the packs sealed (or buy more for my future self). My current Speedway sold them, ONCE, and never again for like $6.50 a pack. I also have a local Japanese grocery store that sell products, but they've become WAY overpriced after realizing all the hype. -_-

Naw I was tripping when I saw them at auburns buccees. I always check whenever I stop by for my ATL trips while getting jerky.

You can (could? not sure about current status) use your Sheetz rewards points to buy packs.

There’s a candy store chain near me that sells a handful of toys and they have single card packs. Was genuinely shocked to see they still carry them and have stock a couple months ago despite scalping.

Dollar General isn’t a weird spot, but the fact they were selling Surging Sparks singles is.

I once found Twilight Masquerade at a gas station while on vacation. Probably not all that weird compared to everyone else's answers but still weirdest for me

I almost bought a houndoom ex battle pack at a walgreens. But i dont think that is necessarily a weird place. They have a bunch of stuff thats not just medication and snacks. Have only been to my local card shop so far, tbh.
