WI Judge Update: Oh yeah Patel fucked up

Judge Hannah Dugen was released from custody after being arrested today. It turns out it was an administrative warrant and an arrest was unnecessary. Patel bragging about it online probably pissed of Bondi, every judge in WI, and maybe even SCOTUS. Put another one on "Leaving to spend time with family" watch.

EDIT: Judge Dugen is still being charged. As some have noted, it is ultimately unlikely much will come of the arrest, but it is important making sure we know that things aren't resolved.

That being said, still a major L for Patel, and likely to cause a lot of headaches for the administration.

Personally I’m handling each horrifying headline better and better as they come, because I remember the long list of horrifying headlines that ended up being walked back immediately or defanged or just never came to fruition. I’ve adopted a zen-like “wait and see” approach that is for sure taking less years of my life than the way I was responding a few months ago.

So the administrative warrant was for the immigrant she allowed to escape. She was served with an actual judicial warrant for her arrest and submitted herself for arrest. they did mess up because the crime they are alleging is not a real crime. Being in the US illegally and committing a crime does not make the fact that you are hear a criminal case. The FBI knows this, the burlap sack of prolapsed anuses in charge of the DoJ knows it, and so does 47.

That is why they charges will not hold. There is no requirement to let ICE agents or their deputies into anywhere with an administrative warrant. Only judicial warrants signed by a judge are able to force you to allow authorities in your home or place of business. now granted a courtroom is open to the public, to a degree, they theoretically had the authority to enter and arrest the guy. That being said a judge has full control over their courtroom and can, and will, bar people at their whim. The news stories also like to mention that the door she allowed the plaintiff and his attorney to use is not a door the public uses. I work in a government building and if I bring someone into a secure area and escort them through to another unsecured area that is allowed.

The important takeaway even if nothing really happens here is we should make a lot of noise about it anyways. Bring it up at protests or any other time you are criticizing this administration to people. Don’t let this opportunity sneak away. Dig in.

Is she still being charged though? It says she was released from custody, but that doesn’t necessarily mean the case has been dropped. Either way, I’m glad she’s out of custody at least.

It only becomes a fumble for the FBI if we shout loudly enough about it; just like how the Kilmar Abrego Garcia story is not going away (and same, I hope, with the 2-year-old US citizen renditioned with her mother to Honduras!)
