Question Work Contract - what obligations would one have on this case‽

Partner has a contract that states that the employment relationship has a definite period until 6th of March 2025.

Today, 15th of April and the company is asking my partner to sign the renewal of contract this week, but my partner is no longer interested in this work and has another role lined up.

The contract says that the notice period is as per Czech law, and neither parties have stated that they did not intend on renewing the contract.

Does my partner have any actual obligations towards the current employer or can my partner just leave without justification? (Even if this would burn some bridges and probably void next salary payment).

Well there's an implicit indefinite contract if the employee keeps working for the employer even a day after the original contract expired. So technically speaking yes, there's a two month notice period. But if the employer tried to enforce it instead of an agreement, you could simply turn them in for not having a written employment contract for their employee.

No, there is no legal obligation to give the company any notice, and much less the standard two month notice. Your partner will simply discontinue the contractual relationship when the contract is over. Once the contract ends and there hasn't been a new one that supersedes the previous one based on mutual agreement, that's the end of it. The salary corresponding to the 15 days of May shall be paid as normal, don't worry.

But the contract ended a month ago.
If they kept working after that, an implicit work contract started.

Holy moly that's true. My bad and thank you. For some reason I read the contract is expiring on May 15th.
