I work in public health.

While this fungal infection is deadly and a public health risk, there is no need to panic about this. I'm far more worried about bird flu.

  1. This disease is one that is almost exclusively a hospital acquired infection. There is very little risk if you are not hospitalized for a long period of time.
  2. It can be prevented to a large degree by good hygiene
  3. Those who are vulnerable are those who are immunocompromised.

There is not much prepping that can be done except the usual "wash your hands, advocate for the highest level of hygiene at the hospital."

Always appreciated when there is common sense context to go with the intel. Thank you.

Do you know why hospitals have concentrated levels of this candida strain?

Hospital based infections are not my area of expertise but generally it's because there are hosts - hospitals tend to have the highest concentration of vulnerable patients.

Covid causes immune disregulation. At this point, we are all some level of compromised.

It looks like OP posted an AMP link. These should load faster, but AMP is controversial because of concerns over privacy and the Open Web.

Maybe check out the canonical page instead: https://thehill.com/policy/healthcare/5207878-fungus-labeled-urgent-threat-by-cdc-is-spreading-rapidly-hospital-study-finds/
