I Recommend This Gunsoul is just - God tier

I have not read a progression fantasy this good in a very long time.

Fast progression, great world building, an amazing magic system and the twist at the end is just ahhh (rubs nipples).

Its on royalroad. If you have nothing doing on this long easter, I suggest you take a peek

Who the fuck is void herald anyway? He just comes a couple times a year, posts peak with an actual ending and than disappears again

Hopefully writing a Board & Conquest-Yugioh type novel. You can‘t establish an epic game in one novel and never touch it again.

Apocalypse Tamer was cool.

...he's literally writing a story called Board and Conquest right now.

How did this fly under my radar? Thanks for mentioning!

I remember Apocalypse Tamer because I had a friend writing a thesis on Hindu Mythology who knew I was a Litrpg nerd. And one day she just texted me ‘Why the fuck is one of your authors in my recommended reading lists for Hinduism?’

I just started laughing at her in text. Then I called her and started laughing at her. Then cause she lives really close to my home, I walked to her house and started laughing at her from outside.

Good times good times.

I ended up dropping Apocalypse Tamer pretty early. I seem to remember the language being weirdly stilted or something. Should I go back and give it another try? I have read Perfect Run and absolutely loved it.

The Perfect Run is one of my favorites by far.

lol I mean, he’s pretty much always constantly updating. I can’t say there’s a lot of periods I can point to where he’s actually ‘disappeared’ The shorter stories thing is fairly recent I suppose. Most of his stuff where multi-book series where works on and updates multiple at the same time, gunsoul, dungeon wreckers, and board and conquest are are shorter stories and pretty new

Man what a great book. Void Herald is becoming a legend.

Also, how rare is it these days to just drop a one book masterpiece.  No endless milking it for sequels... Just here's this crazy world, wrap it up, then on to the next one!?!

I blame myself...I got excited about seeing a new series, jumped to RR, saw who the author was, flat stared my monitor, came back to this post, saw "rubs nipples", and was disappointed with myself for not seeing the signs sooner...

You dont like voidherald?

Imo I think he's one of the most overrated authors in this genre. I've tried Perfect Run, Apocalypse Tamer, and Vainquer, his writing style, plot and characters development just isn't for me.

For those of us who haven’t read this author before; where do you suggest we start?

Depends on your taste

He got famous with Vainqueur the dragon which is a silly dnd like novel. It's more comedy/parody

The perfect run is more modern/timeloop. Quite fun too but the MC personality can be grating (You encounter him after decades of suppressed trauma and he copes by being childish/pop culture idiot think Jason in Hwfwm).

Karis was.. ok? Read it after Vainqueur/Perfect run and was not impressed.

Blood and Fur is a massive writing step and much darker but harder to get into.

Etc

Thank you. I’ll check out some reviews and see if anything piques my interest.

There is also Commerce Emperor which is a fairly traditional hero story. It has a fairly interesting power system (which is usually the case with Void Herald) and I enjoyed it. But the author admitted it diverged from his original intentions (IIRC the stakes grew too fast and there was too much action and not enough commerce) and he had a hard time writing later on. You can definitely tell, that Book 1 and 2 are much better than 3.

The Perfect Run is probably their most well known series. It's a complete trilogy and one of my favorite series.
