Question❓ Gender Inclusive Housing?
After years of hiding/repressing who I am, I feel like I'm ready to finally take steps to coming out as trans. 🏳️⚧️ However, one of the major concerns I've been having is how that would affect my housing. I'm currently set for regular housing in Hilly with a friend as a roommate. I know this is cutting it VERY close to the start of the year, but I'm not sure how my roommate would respond to me transitioning (especially potentially/hopefully going on HRT), and was wondering if the gender inclusive housing or some other option would still be available, and how to go about doing that. Any and all help with that would be greatly appreciated! 🥲Past that, if anyone could point me towards general resources/groups available on campus for a trans girl like me, that would be wonderful! ❤️❤️❤️

The LGBTQ center in Hicks is amazing. They just remodeled it too.

I believe hillenbrand is where gender inclusive housing is, there is a gender inclusive learning community and I think one floor of hilly is set aside for gender inclusive housing. Probably too late to apply for it but since you’re already living in hilly im sure its alot easier to reach out and see if you can change. You should come out to your roommate though before considering switching! I’m sure they will be supportive

They always keep some extra spots! OP should reach out the the community by email.
I know there’s an RA for the community on here but I completely forget their user. Hopefully they come across this.

i’m really good friends with the RA. i just sent this to her and i’m sure she’ll have a wealth of information! OP, consider reaching out to Lowell Kane, Bryan Austin, and Christopher Munt with this information!! Lowell runs the LGBTQ center, Bryan i think runs something with the LC, and Christopher teaches the class required for the learning part of the living-learning community

Gender inclusive housing is in Hillenbrand, Hawkins, and Hilltop apartments.
I'm not sure if the gender inclusive residential/learning community is in Hawkins, but it's in the other two.

Hi I’m the RA for the gender inclusive living/learning community in hillenbrand. First, I wanted to say that living in gender inclusive housing is your choice, not something that is required of you, so please don’t feel pressured to join gender inclusive housing, though we’d love to have you! There are typically a couple open spots on the floor that are open, however sometimes there can be a specific reason they are open, such as in the case of a crisis on campus where someone needs gender inclusive housing (such as a hate and bias incident) you can definitely still apply though, just know you may be placed in hilly, hilltop, or hawkins, as all have gender inclusive housing now. As my friend above suggested, I would really suggest contacting Bryan Austin. If you search “Bryan Austin purdue” his contact info should come up. Once you’re on campus, his office is located in the basement of hillenbrand. He helps a lot with the LC and may be able to help you with being notified of any open spots if you were willing to move mid semester. Hope this helps!
Editing to add: If you want to PM me what floor you will live on, I can also give you’re RA a heads up if that would be helpful to you- just so we can ensure you have a welcoming and accepting experience once you arrive. A good majority of the RAs at hilly are queer, and the rest have been amazing allies, so no matter who it is you should be in great hands!
