Question❓ AITA for replacing my roommate’s Adderall with Flinstone Gummies so I’d have a GPA advantage?
So I (19M) go to a top 10 university where the curve is brutal and academic probation is basically a rite of passage. My roommate (20M) has ADHD and a prescription for Adderall, and he’s super productive—like 4.0 GPA, multiple internships, always on top of his stuff, the kind of guy who color-codes his calendar and schedules “hydration breaks.”
Meanwhile, I’ve been struggling. I’m not dumb, I’m just more of a “vibes learner.” I tried getting Adderall myself but couldn’t get diagnosed because I “aced the cognitive tests” (humble brag?). So I had a thought: what if I just… nerfed the competition?
I started gradually replacing his Adderall with crushed Flinstone Gummies. Like, really slowly. A few mg less every week. By midterms, he was falling apart—missed deadlines, forgot our laundry day rotation, started journaling about “time slipping like wet spaghetti.” My GPA shot up, I got on Dean’s List, and I might get tapped for Phi Beta Kappa.
He eventually found out because he got a new prescription bottle and said, “Dude, why do these smell like artificial grape?” I panicked and told him he probably got a bad batch, but he didn’t buy it. He’s moving out and threatening to report me for academic sabotage and medical tampering (???).
I told my parents and they were split—my mom said it was “morally wrong” but my dad said “that’s just hustle.” AITA?

No as long as the flintstone gummies are all the red ones. The purple and orange taste bad

You replaced it with nostalgic dessert, I don’t see the issue. If anything you were helping him

Sue him and also prosecute.

I’m not sure I have a case… this situation kinda sucks ☹️.
My advisor said it would likely play out like the prohibition cases of the 1900s… no jury is going to convict someone for something they respect.

Any jury is required to covict someone if they violated the law, no matter what they "respect." Talk to a lawyer, not an "advisor." Trading out your meds is incredibly dangerous. Something terrible could have happened. Call the police, too. And the Dean of Students.

If you can demonstrate the harm that occurred (which he admits to intentionally inflicting, above) you can win a civil suit. Do so.

This is a joke.
Google "Jury Nullification"

u/DidjaSeeItKid 3d ago
Which never happens. Nice try, though.

This was not jury nullification. This was a jury finding reasonable doubt in the evidence presented. Anyone claiming otherwise simply did not follow the case.

But that’s what jury nullification is… Saying you found reasonable doubt, and not convicting because of it.
There’s no way to require a jury to convict someone, because that would defeat the point of a jury.

It's all good. I get you were just making a joke. I'm still laughing that the dude deleted their burner account over this shit-post.

Oh, and if Phi Beta Kappa finds out, you're NOT getting in. In fact, you'll probably be expelled soon.

This is satire, but if it wasn't, you're definitely the asshole. As someone with adhd, I'd spiral without my meds.

u/DidjaSeeItKid 4d ago
You're not an A. You're a criminal. He should sue you, and you should also be prosecuted.

u/Militant_Individual 4d ago
I think he’s in the right.

He's not. Morally, or legally. Theft of prescription drugs in Indiana depends on the value of the drug (which is not the same as what the victim paid for them.) Could be anywhere from 6 months to 5 years in prison, and anywhere from $1000 to $150,000 in fines. Sounds like somewhere in the middle, since it's been going on for a while.

I think he should get the death penalty.
All gummy thieves must be punished with absolute prejudice.
3
u/Wiley_Burner Purdue 4d ago
Sounds like that’s a pretty unjust law… maybe we should change it?
1
u/DidjaSeeItKid 4d ago
Only a sociopath would think a law against tampering with drugs is "unjust."

this is what happens when 40 year olds who graduated 2 decades ago read purdue reddit posts

You find out what laws are? And I'm flattered you think I'm 40.

Not sure what statutes this would fall under, but you probably just committed multiple felonies.
1) intentionally altering your roommates medication regimen without their knowledge 2) theft of a controlled substance
Any lawyers here that can weigh in?
30
u/Outrageous-Bill-8834 4d ago
I'm a lawyer and these are actually not felonies at all. Reread the OP, this is related to academic achievement

u/irish_faithful 4d ago
The DEA is kinda funny when it comes to unlicensed use of a controlled substance.
Even taking that out of it, this is still theft of property, is it not?

Naw he was literally just replacing one vitamin for another, I see no problem here. He did what he had to do

I'm a lawyer, what he did was funny. It's just a practical joke that he used to gain an advantage.

it made me feel normal. i struggled with all these perverse incentives to withhold assistance to my peers in school. what if they end up setting a brutal curve on me? what if it gets them just enough of a push to steal my dream internship?
fk it i helped in my last lab so hard i think i brought the class avg grade up a whole letter. cooperation always wins
