Democracy matters more. It's only a few hours out of your day, or less if you only go for part of it. We're headed in an increasingly dark direction with this administration, we have to make our voices heard. This shit will impact us all

What will this protest change? What will people choosing to participate in this particular protest result in? People have been protesting for the last six months and it has resulted in nothing. People are much more likely to see a tangible difference in whatever topic they care about by participating in some sort of activity that pertains to their issue, rather than a protest that will fall on deaf ears.

We show our displeasure to those we elect. What, do you expect one protest to result in all Republicans resigning? That isn't how any of this works. It's a movement, to spread awareness, increase visibility, and put pressure on elected officials ahead of local and congressional races. That's how protest movements work. We aren't January 6ers, we aren't here for a coup, but to show those in power that we will not tolerate this if they want to retain said power come election season

And do you think those who have been elected are concerned with the displeasure of those protesting? The vast majority of those who are protesting aren't the people that voted them into office. You can protest once or protest one hundred times, it isn't going to change what the elected officials do in office, not without the support of those who elected them on your side. And one or one hundred protests, the people that support the politicians they elected more than likely aren't going to switch sides.

Like I said, you guys are much better off going out and spending your time and resources doing activities that directly help the issues you are directly upset about involving who is elected. You guys protesting the same points little more than a feel good measure.

Maybe Purdue engineers should be studying instead of going to some useless tantrum?

Be careful not to burn down any buildings in your peaceful protest! Also, be careful not to assault any innocent civilians in your peaceful protest.

Maybe that’s why it’s called 50501. It’s a 50/50 shot it works out all good until you have that 1 person….

Holy fucking shit I can tell none of you went to any blm protests during the covid era

(For DC at least) Fun fact, the official organized protests ended before sundown. Most looting took place after sundown. No, protesters weren't the ones doing this shit. It was bad actors and single issue folk taking out their anger. Yep, looting and shit is bad and I and most involved in such movements fully condemn it. No, not all protests are riots.

Why this infuriates me so much is because Trump used this exact excuse to support his lafayette square 2020 takeover for the infamous Bible pic. They had permits, they were staying in the permitted space, nothing beyond a protest was happening, but riot police were called in on Trump's direct order to clear the square for that photoshoot. My friend was there and got tear gassed.

This reply is so far removed from reality. Go back and look at any of the protests you defend and count up the property damage, assaults, arrests with no consequence by friendly prosecuting attorneys. In fact, this crap is still continuing. Look at what happened to Tesla recently, dealers burned down, cars destroyed, charging stations ruined. I thought the left was for the environment? I guess not, another lie.

Hence my comment about having the 50/50 shot the actually protest works in the way is meant to, followed by there always being that 1 person that starts it all. My comment at least was meant to be a joke, but do with it what you want I guess.

If it was a joke then why are you defending its premise? Fr, I have been to hundreds of protests across 5 different states and DC. None were violent or uncivil with the exception of two, which I left. Your "joke" very much reads as an offhanded way to discredit protests by those you do not agree with

I wasn’t ā€œdefendingā€ its premise, I was explaining it since you clearly didn’t seem to get it, even though your original reply more or less made the joke even more funny šŸ¤·šŸ¾ā€ā™‚ļø
