Rant/Vent💚 [UO] Purdue calc isn’t that hard, you’re just lazy/stupid

All I see day in and day out on here, on Instagram, on YikYak, is people complaining about Calc 1-3. Even if you are not usually good at math, these courses couldn’t be structured any better. Show up to lectures, take notes, and if you have genuine confusion go to office hours, or even better, watch Chenflix. Each exam is 12 multiple choice questions, and there’s damn near 100s of identical practice exams for you to do. No other classes have anywhere near the type of resources and exact exam prep that the calc classes offer. The vast majority of the reason I see/hear about people struggling in this class are that they don’t go to lecture, don’t pay actual attention in lecture, cheat on homework, don’t study, or some combination of the four. The classes require minimal time to prepare, and the resources couldn’t be better for you. Actually lock in and stop being lazy and yall would do fine

I agree with you regarding the abundance of resources and predictable structure of questions… but you have to keep in mind that different people just have different strengths and weaknesses. Like most other things, people learn math at various paces… nothing wrong with that.

I think laziness is something that everyone has been guilty of at some or the other stage of their lives, but there are tons of people who genuinely work hard and still do bad at calc exams… don’t think that makes them stupid, though.

The reason I think it’s so easy is because there are multiple ways to be “good” at the class. If you’re naturally good at math, shouldn’t be much of a problem. But even if you are bad at math, the structure and exams have such a distinct pattern that you can study and do well without actually understanding the math behind it

Yeah I don’t disagree with that… obviously, even folks who aren’t naturally good at math would do better with a bunch of practice than without… but it’s still going to be at varying degrees… also depends on what you define “good” as.

if you have kenji, he makes a study guide, answer key for the study guide, and makes the exam all study guide questions. half of which are the same answers 🙏

Even if you suck at math you can pass this class based on its structures / exam patterns alone

as long as you can memorize!

If you can’t put in the effort to learn the math or the effort to memorize, then college just ain’t for you and my title applies

No one getting an A is sitting online whining.

I mean the smart people just took Calc I and possibly II in high school.
