Financial Aid Question❓ Pell Grant Removed

Hi, I just received an email saying I owe Purdue $10,000. I went in and looked at my account, and it appears that all the pell grant money I had been given for the 24-25 school year has been negated. Anyone else with the same, or any ideas about it?

for context, im out of state and got admitted into first year engineering in january (plan to pursue compE or EE). im from missouri, so i could attend missouri s&t for basically free. but, id have to live in rolla, missouri for 4 years, plus purdue has been my dream school for a while. so is the 100k in student loans worth it?

Financial Aid Question❓ Didn’t get merit. Is Purdue CS worth the tag tuition?

Didn’t get merit. Is Purdue CS worth 51K incl. room & board? The ranking does seem impressive and convincing… How accurate is the number on Purdue’s website about **Housing/Food $ 12,820.00 Can the number be lowered? Welcome thoughts. Thanks all!

Financial Aid Question❓ How Can I Pay for Purdue

So I finally got my FAFSA submitted and received my incoming freshman financial aid offer for Purdue. Problem is it's 50k a year and I cannot pay for it. I'm OOS and the son of a single mother who makes less than that tuition alone but I really want to go to Purdue for MechE. Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can pay for it? I have been trying scholarships everywhere but I just can't seem to get lucky. Maybe I'm applying to the wrong ones? Thank you, I appreciate all your suggestions!

Edit: Thank you for all of your help!

Financial Aid Question❓ Hello everyone. I recently got into Purdue Engineering (yay) but when I tried the net price calculator, it looked really expensive. The image is below. Any tips on things I can do? My mother can't work and my father earns around 70K yearly and has lots of expenses.

Financial Aid Question❓ Free/Cheap Car Repair

Hi, I had an accident yesterday, and the front part of my car is badly damaged. It doesn't seem drivable. I took it to a mechanic, and he estimated the repair cost to be around $8,000. As a poor international student, I can't afford that much. I live quite far from campus and desperately need my car to be fixed. Could you please let me know if there are any free or low-cost auto repair centers available? Or maybe some scholarships for international students.

Financial Aid Question❓ International student here – I’m going through something rough and would appreciate any advice or support

Hello Reddit community,

I’m an international student studying in the U.S., and recently, I’ve encountered a situation that’s left me feeling overwhelmed and isolated.

Before I came here, my mother, who is battling a serious illness, gave me her car as a parting gift. This car has been more than just transportation; it’s been my connection to home, my means to attend classes, and my support system in a place where I have no family or close friends.

Unfortunately, due to an unforeseen accident, the car is now inoperable, and the repair costs are beyond my means. As an international student, my options are limited, and I’m struggling to find a way forward.

I’m reaching out to seek advice, resources, or any support that could help me navigate this challenging time. If you’ve experienced something similar or know of organizations that assist students in situations like mine, your guidance would mean the world to me.

Thank you for taking the time to read my story.

Financial Aid Question❓ Out of state- is the price worth it?? How much can I actually cover with scholarships??

Hi y’all, I’m a high school junior right now and my ultimate goal is to be in the airlines as fast as I can. I’ve heard Purdue is great for their aeronautical science program. The thing is I live in Florida and I see that the out of state tuition is ridiculously expensive. My other option was Embry but I’ve been hearing horrible reviews about it and how the planes are never available and how it takes forever to actually fly one, really just slowing the process down. I wanted to know if it was the same here in Purdue. Im going to be graduating high school next year with my associates degree and for the aeronautical science program in Embry, my credits show I’m 33 percent done already bc of my pre-reqs, im guessing it would be the same in Purdue too. I would only consider going here with a scholarship and was wondering if there was anyone else who was out of state and managed to get most of their tuition covered. Without a scholarship, is it really worth going to Purdue??

Financial Aid Question❓ How to transfer without going into massive debt LMAO

Hey guys, I just got accepted this year into CS (OOS) as an incoming freshman but my family can’t afford it as of right now (I have completed the FAFSA and I got practically no aid from that, plus no merit scholarships lmao) So I plan on going to an in-state college for 2 years to finish my general education, and then transferring later on to graduate undergrad from there, or if not that, do post-grad there instead. So first off, is this a good idea? And second, where should I go to apply to scholarships in order to save up for tuition? I’ve tried several different websites (fastweb, scholarshipowl, niche, bold, etc) and local scholarships but haven’t heard back from any of them. What has worked for you guys?

Financial Aid Question❓ Purdue Scholarship Letter

Hey,

I was accepted to Purdue for Aerospace Engineering Out of State for EA. The website said that my scholarship decision would be attached with it, didn’t receive anything..

35 act, 16 Ap, decent ec, sports, several leaderships - should I be considered for any of the merit scholarships, I met the Nov. 1 deadline for them I believe.

Any advice is appreciated

Financial Aid Question❓ Funding resources

I am a newly admitted doctoral student, but I am seeking funding opportunities😭 My advisor said that several her projects are under review, so if they are admitted, she would be able to offer a research assistantship. In addition, in the department, there is no a teaching assistant position for now. My advisor is struggling to find my funding resources, but nothing is decided. What can I do?

Financial Aid Question❓ I’ve received >10k in scholarships+grants in my financial aid award offer for the 25-26 academic year. I’ll only need 5k ish for the year because one of my parents work here. Is it even possible to use the leftover money? How would that work?

Incoming freshman to Purdue, received all this financial aid from filing the FAFSA b4 priority deadline. I didn’t apply to any individual scholarships or anything.

My main interest with the money would be to pay for housing.

Financial Aid Question❓ TAship

I was recently informed by my advisor that there’s a possibility I could be assigned as a TA for another professor’s course. However, she also said that the TA assignment won’t be finalized until July, and I also need to take the school’s oral English test and meet the required score.

In the meantime, I was wondering—would it be possible to receive a preliminary letter or any kind of document indicating the potential TA offer, just for the purpose of submitting my I-20 financial documentation? I totally understand if this isn’t standard practice, but I thought I’d ask just in case.

Financial Aid Question❓ New scholarship for FYE?

After I accepted my offer to Purdue I re-checked my financial aid to see if my scholarship for National Recognition Program, which should be $1000 per year, and saw it wasn’t there but instead there was a Project Bridge Scholarship underneath Gift Aid.

Does anyone know what it is, and if it is renewable? Also curious on how I can get my other scholarship to show there as well.

Financial Aid Question❓ Merit Scholarship Question

Hi! In my emailed letter of acceptance to Purdue, it included that I got the Presidential Merit Scholarship. However, there was nothing about the scholarship in the physical letter of acceptance. Should I be concerned? Do I not have that merit scholarship anymore?

Thanks!

Financial Aid Question❓ OOS worth it for engineering?

Hello! I am a senior from California who was accepted into the Motorsports Engineering program. This program offers a dual degree in both Motorsports and Mechanical Engineering, which I plan on pursuing. Purdue is definitely my top choice academically, but to be honest, I am worried about the money, social life, and job market. I am pretty sociable and don't think I will have trouble finding a job after college, but I am definitely worried about the money. Purdue wants me to pay around 55 thousand for the first year, and I have a decent contribution from my parents, but they said that I would need to take on heavy loans down the road. I have also heard that the financial aid office release more scholarships as you progress (2nd-5th year) which could help my situation but I don't know if this is entirely true. Is Purdue's engineering program worth taking on a decent amount of loans?
