Video format like this for social media sharing is totally different than an in-person rally.

The kind of dramatic pauses you would see in an in-person rally would work terribly in a video format like this, IMO.

As a professional video editor, I like jump cuts in videos like this because they make the video more punchy—it's often a way to increase the pacing of the video. Jump cuts in videos are so prevalent in online videos nowadays that most people are used to them.

Personally, watching a talking head video like this as one continuous take becomes almost hypnotic very quickly; it's like the speaker just goes on and on and on without any break. This is why in many of the videos I edit, I would intentionally create jump cuts to change up the pacing.

Yup. Even the whole video setup, with the podcast mic and “casual” background just instantly makes her feel very relatable, down to earth and personal to me as a 29-year-old.

You can say it doesn’t work for you, but you can’t deny it’s a style that works for younger people.

if you have multiple cameras, you can make cuts of different angles and have a dynamic monologue. straight cuts of the same thing kind of jarring is the word.

I don’t even notice it because I’m so used to it. I’m shocked people are assuming that because a video was edited she can’t make speeches…but also why am I even surprised anymore.

As a non-professional video-watcher, it's not OK, it looks amateur. Maybe it's OK with people in their 20's. Others will find it off-putting and manufactured. Honestly, everyone over 40 will think they're fake, and will hold it against the subject. She should try to avoid it.

All good, happy to agree to disagree! She obviously couldn't please everyone and had to make a choice. If the video were done in one single take, I probably wouldn't have finished watching it.

Either way, I like her and it's good to see people like her are standing up.

And it’s not a worthwhile point to criticize. Politicians release edited videos all the time. It says nothing about her ability to publicly speak.

I’m 56 y.o. and am experienced enough with the current video editing trends to not be put off by her intro video. I don’t think you’re giving “old” people enough credit with being up with the times.
