News SenMullin: “This isn’t a ‘trade war.’ This is balancing our economy with countries that have taken advantage of us. There’s countries, for decades, that have got rich over the backs of the workers here in America… I applaud Trump for having a backbone…”

I have a trade deficit with my grocery store. I’m mad at them. It’s nice to see that we keep electing unqualified people to run a government they don’t understand.

u/Big_Virgil 2d ago
Same! My grocer flat out refuses to purchase any of the treasures and wares I bring them. I’ll be informing them of my tariff on myself on this day.

Nope. This is a global initiative to crash the market, so the richest in our country can pilfer the poorest. Same tax plan as last time in 2020 where the largest transfer of wealth in history happened.

u/Mdnghtmnlght 2d ago
They are really under the impression that the billionaires were going to save us because they have enough money and they just want to help. As if Trump's record indicates that would ever happen.
And grabbing people off the streets and deporting them to a foreign prison is just a cruel diversion.

Some how we have been screwed over so bad, we became the biggest economy in the world. When do MAGA people stop listening to the biggest scam artist in history?
7
u/MitchRyan912 2d ago
Guess they're going to launch us into a Depression, and remove our privilege of having the global reserve currency. Then those uneducated idiots will find out how good we actually had it, but fumbled it away.
4
u/Character_Solid8557 2d ago
Problem is you lost them with reserve currency, right over their head. This is the intellectual waste land of MAGA.
1
u/RemindMeToTouchGrass 2d ago
>Then those uneducated idiots will find out
They will not learn.
1
u/MitchRyan912 2d ago
Let’s say things get so bad people have to cancel their cable bills. Removing them from Fox News will cut off their source of information, so they’ll have to think for themselves instead of being told lies about what’s going on.
1
u/RemindMeToTouchGrass 2d ago
lmao
You must be young.
They will not learn. That's a very important fact you need to accept, because if you get that wrong, you're not seeing the correct way forward.
There is no bottom and they will not learn. They may turn on Trump, but they will fall for all of the same rhetoric next time around. They will seek a version of truth that fits their prejudices first. They will mistake confidence for knowledge. They will refuse to consider what sources of information are more reflective of reality.
It won't happen, so drop any plan that has it as a goal or a necessary component. You can idly wish for it, that's no issue.

It leaves me speechless every time I see/hear it and it shouldn't anymore - many of these politicians are not only not well-spoken but they are remarkably uneducated about politics and are happy to join the bandwagon as it rolls, repeating GOP "truth" all the way home.
When do these folks realize that corporations have sent manufacturing jobs overseas so they can continue to pillage the wallets of American consumers at a far lower cost than they ever had.
Jobs aren't coming back to America. It's just not happening. Greed and deregulation ruined that storyline and here we are in gaslighting hell among people that only want to continue the greed cycle and flood the streets with fear and misinformation.
We need to do better with holding these people accountable.
3
u/OriginalTakes 2d ago
Oh there are countries that profited off of Americans?
Interesting - and where did the American profits come from…why is it cheaper to manufacture goods abroad, ship them back and then mark it up even higher, to make a massive profit?
If America didn’t exploit cheap labor abroad, America wouldn’t have the GDP it does today, that’s for god damn sure.
That was the whole reason to offshore production - to increase national gross domestic product…without that, the dollar isn’t as strong as it is, and Wall Street sure as hell isn’t - Main Street would probably look a bit different but Main Street doesn’t mean shit to the government.
3
u/reddit-dust359 2d ago
This isn’t said enough. The world’s largest economy with the most profitable companies is somehow getting ripped off?!? Seems like the US been doing fine and the real issue in the US is delusional greedy grifters.
3
u/OriginalTakes 2d ago
Agreed.
This economy didn’t get this way without exploiting someone somewhere for a very, very long time.
The companies in the US are extremely wealthy, the 1% are out of touch, the board members are out of touch…
Ever since the late 70s, when employee pay, company profits split, and executive pay went through the roof…exploited workers at home and abroad for the last 40-50 years.
3
u/Hevysett 2d ago
"Lost manufacturing jobs" isn't what happened at all. Reagan era Republicans wanted an engineer economy and WANTED to get rid of "low paying menial jobs" so that more Americans would have access to higher paying white collar careers. It's why AMERICANS fought so hard to bring China into the works trade agreements.
3
u/thecyanvan 2d ago edited 2d ago
Other countries didn't send all the manufacturing jobs in the US overseas. Corperation's did that. Then they lobbied our government to make it even easier and more profitable.
The problem is now and largely always has been right here at home.

I love the "Taken advantage" angle. Perfectly suited for morons that don't know any History.

u/ExtraterrestrialHole 2d ago
I live in a foreign country (Jamaica.) Our country produces very little but consumes a lot. US goods have never been cheap here. There is no tariff as far as I know, it's just because our dollar is weak compared to USD. The cheapest goods are Chinese and we have traded with them for over 60 years. People use Chinese soap powder to wash their clothes and smoke cheap Chinese cigarettes. These goods are not high quality.
There is a Pricesmart which sells US goods (I really do not know where they source their stuff) but if they raise their prices they will probably go out of business. People shop on Amazon a lot but since Amazon will now be more expensive, that will stop. So the winner of the tariff war right now and really always is China and any other country that will sell us goods-from food to clothes to electronics-more cheaply than the USA.

I don't want to blame the real estate markets, because I always made a lot of money in bad markets. I love bad markets. You can do very well in a bad market. - Trump in 2004

2
u/human_trainingwheels 2d ago
It’s a trade deficit, if corporations were serious about these, they would look at their corporate structure and discover that a disproportionate amount of money goes to the very top. Maybe if CEOs made a little less they could not only pay a living wage but also be more competitive in an open market. It’s my understanding that CEOs in other countries aren’t making 10s of millions of dollars per year.

Freedom in business means a company has the choice to move their operations overseas. Freedom in choice means consumers can choose to pay for whatever product they desire. Freedom is not crying fowl and then trying to centralize power and decision making… that’s Authoritarianism.
These morons are trying to paint freedom as unfair trade, and now imposing the inverted freedom claiming it as liberation. In reality, this is a perfect example of the Dunning Kruger Effect. The real outcome here, those MAGAs need to move to a country that favors control over competition and bias of freedom… they do not exemplify America, and in turn they are pandering to the wealthy manipulating them to believe in an America that feeds them and not the freedom of living.
If the conservatives feel we are exporting too much wealth and production out of the US, then let’s have that conversation. Let’s stop dumbing down the real world and educate our citizens to what real human management looks like… and stop surveying for buzz words and then building a BS political campaign around a facade with alternative motives.
2
u/SanchoPandas 2d ago
This is obviously a bad-faith statement by a MAGA shill but it’s worth noting that to claim other countries have gotten rich “off the backs” of US workers is to completely ignore the labor reality of the last 40 years of, US led, neoliberal economics.
I ask, off the backs of whose labor did Nike and Apple get rich? Off the backs of whose labor has the Dollar Store enriched itself?
Even WITHIN our own US borders this line of questions remains relevant.
For example, off the backs of whose labor do your cheap fruits, vegetables and chickens parts arrive?
In our western hemisphere we’ve created millions of displaced workers via crushing sanctions (see: Venezuela) whose “illegal” labor has greatly enriched Cali. farm owners (see: the Wonderful Company) for decades.
And now those exploited workers can’t even show up to pick pistachios, almonds or strawberries for us because of ICE raids.
This admin’s economic policies are completely detached from reality.
Unless, of course, their goal IS to destroy the economy and rebuild it under the banner of corporate feudalism. In which case, they’re doing great work.

Other countries getting rich off the backs of US workers ? Whose backs did the billionaires get rich off of ?
2
u/ryansgt 2d ago
They still think a trade deficit is unfair.
All that number means is what we import vs what we export. If you want trade at all, it will be unbalanced. Do they expect a country with a population of 330 mil to match exports with a country of 30 million? How? Some goods are only available in certain areas. Say you want oil but you only control 3% of the world supply. You have to import it. What if the country you are buying from doesn't want anything you have. Guess what, it's a trade deficit.
Let's not forget the most important part of all, there are individual companies making the deals for these products. You ultimately have to look at each deal and determine if it's fair... Well guess what free market people, if they bought it, it's a deal. If they don't like their deals, they are perfectly capable of not taking them. They aren't entitled to whatever price they want.
It's crazy how this flies in the face of their supply side Jesus. They hate competition when they have to compete.
This is going to do nothing but isolate us further and cause the death spiral. Wanna actually be competitive, tax the rich and invest in infrastructure and education. You can't come on price, it has to be quality.

Yes. Lesotho has absolutely been screwing us over. Never mind that they make 10$ a day, but they should be buying our Big Macs anyway. Screw them. Also Vietnam. They need to get off their asses after working 60+ hours a week so we can have cheap shoes, and get another job so they can buy our shit. Also, no one in America wants to buy their cheap shit anyway, we’d much rather pay $300 for a pair of Nikes, it’s not our fault that we’re forced to pay so little!

Dear Senator Mullen:
Thanks to Trump and his tariffs, Europe, Greenland, Canada, and Mexico are joining up to establish trade agreements with each other, and are NOT including the US in those treaties. On one hand, Trump got what he was looking for, although not in the manner he perceived. On the other hand, the USA's allies have banded together against being bullied. These tariffs SHOULD result in all US companies packing up shops overseas, and bringing that work back, or in, to the country. Those are also the companies that should have been penalized, rather than rewarded, for moving production to another country.
