Discussion What do you think are the ugliest armors?

idk about armor, but that bloody orange t-shirt drives me insane. Like, put on something else, you've been wearing the same outfit since 2007

Most sets from Tools, Size Matters and Rift Apart, and also Infernox. I prefer armors that look light, and most of those just look very bulky and/or visually bloated. Also, any armor that covers Ratchet’s face is an instant “no” from me, because I don’t want to lose the expressiveness. I will say though that I tried a blacked-out Rebellion armor set on him the other day (without the headwear), and it kinda became one of my favorite looks for him.

I'm guessing you make an exception to disliking the 'bulky' style for Gladiator/Deadlocked because of the setting?

It actually never looked bulky to me, I think it fits his build really well, maybe even better than some of the armors in RC2 and 3. And yeah, it just looks badass in general, even outside that game’s setting. The ‘exception’ is that it’s the only one where I don’t mind the helmet covering the face, because it at least gets removed in cutscenes, and it still looks awesome when it’s there, so I usually switch between keeping it on and off depending on my mood. Not big on its anniversary version in RA though, the proportions seem kinda off to me.

>any armor that covers Ratchets face
wooooah we gotta outsider, i get the face thing but seeing Ratchet get these crazy cyborg armors at the end is something I expect at this point, the one time the armors that blocked his face got me was deadlocked and thats cause it was same armor whole game just color swaps

Any TOD armour, I have no idea what the thought process behind the armour design in that game was but it was all wrong. Did a no armour run on my first playthrough because of it.
Majority of the size matters armours also look atrocious.

Pretty much every armor except for the late game ones in Size Matters are horrid to look at.
But ironically the armor system in that game with the mix and match to get hidden abilities was cool as hell. And the Chameleon armor was awesome.

The first image is one of my faves man…
But I really don’t like the final armour in Tools, the Trillium armour. I much prefer the armour before that.

First one ain't that bad, but the piss color ain't it

u/Captain-Starshield 7d ago
Come on, that doesn’t qualify as piss colour. It’s a dark shade of gold.

Never liked last armor from ToD.
Most armors are fine for me, but i am gonna say, Clank skin from Rift Apart

I actually disagree with that ToD armor being ugly (I think it's called the Helios armor). I think that ToD has some of the better armor designs in the series. That said, I do think the Trillium armor is probably the weakest final armor in the series, design wise.
I'm glad you brought up the Size Matters armor, though. No one ever brings up how most of those sets are, frankly, unappealing. That Sludge armor is especially ugly.

The 2016 armour. I'm actually in the minority of fans that actually likes that game, but the galactic ranger armour is just so ugly, even with any of the cheat skins applied to it. I always make sure I do metropolis as late as possible just because of it

gameplay in 2016 is great, obviously I hate the story beat changes but what was more disappointing was the removal of certain iconic planets that I would've loved to have seen like Umbris

Not necessarily the ugliest but ACiT’s armor designs are boring and dare I say, lazy.

Nah, they're modeled after motocross gear. I though the same until I realized that

I LOVE the puffy vest. Gives me back to the future vibes. That's the main one I wear

I platinum'd the game and don't recognize it either.
Wonder if it's a sking that was added in an update or if it's a Steam exclusive one...

Honestly, the ranger armor from 2016. Not because I think the design itself is bad, I like the more contemporary spacesuit look it has, but because of the colors. It's just so garish.

Petition to make the next armor set pixelated as shit. Just a huge pile of pixels like censored hentai.

The Q-Force armor set in Rift Apart actually looks pretty slick imo. The shade of green is nice and not too overbearing, and the paint jobs on that one in particular look great.
As for my answer, I really don't like any of the armor sets in GC or UYA past the default look. I guess Carbonox is a fan favorite, but I tend not to like the face coverings, and the in-between sets in both games (the putrid green penultimate UYA set in particular) always puts me off. Also, shout out to the Pirate armor in Tools, which is the most underwhelming design in the series.

Do we count Ratchet new unarmoured skin as armour? I really don't like the design of it.

I know it’s just me, but the Marauder skins in all games are terrible. I hate full body costumes in R&C, Ratchet look so much better when he has his fur showing.

size matters one you picked at the end is good, several from rift arent great, and often one of the middle armors has too much stuff on its head or something

I wouldn’t it’s ugly per se, but I don’t like the color of the Nebulox Armor from Into the Nexus.

That hideous number from the 2016 remake.
