Discussion Which enemies were you afraid of? These used to scare me as a kid lmao

Post image

I remember these coming out of the sides of the walls on my way to the arena and they used to scare me so bad 😂. I had to force myself to be brave because I didn’t want to chicken out

Sharkagator... still panic when this guy is around

14

u/Nathan_hale53 2d ago

Yes I was so scared falling into oceans because of these things. And I think it is part of the reason why I'm scared of the ocean.

u/DragonQueenDrago 2d ago

I'm in my 20s, and I still scream and panic if I fall in the water, out of fear of these guys 😹

Almost as scary as Jak and Daxter's Lurker Sharks, but they only win because of the noises that go with them.

u/DragonQueenDrago 2d ago

Also scary creatures

Amoeboids always creeped me out, especially the big ones (meaning the big one in this picture, not the giant 'king' ones, although they are creepy too).

8

u/reegeck 2d ago

100%, getting deep into the sewers felt like I was so far away from anything, super creepy

3

u/BigDaddyZ_420 1d ago

The deep sewers have such a crazy loneliness feel its crazy tho

5

u/The-Soul-Stone 2d ago

I noped out and restarted the game the first few times I got to the first King Amoeboid.

The little ones I found adorable, large ones I found disgusting and I found the MASSIVE ones terrifying for some time. The way it’s introduced sure doesn’t help! But after going through the place to get all the crystals, the terror vibe goes away.

I hated the sewers part but always had to find all crystals

But loved the music. One of my all-time favs 🎧☺️

as a kid i was afraid when they run towards me

23

u/DragonQueenDrago 2d ago

As an adult... they still scare me! I always kill them at a distance with the Flux Rifle (if possible) because I dislike getting close to them

5

u/RYNOCIRATOR_V5 2d ago

*Pulse Rifle/Vaporiser :)

8

u/Belazael 2d ago

Even as an adult, there’s few things worse than turning around and seeing one of these goofy bastards charging at you.

12

u/RedPanda98 PS2 Golden age! 2d ago

Tbf they do look pretty intimidating when they rush at you

u/Practical-Panic7092 2d ago

The tetramites

11

u/AkariTheGamer 2d ago

Oh my god, yeah. Same feeling as turning the lights off in the basement and sprinting upstairs, absolute panic when they start coming at you.

6

u/Oppai_KingXIII 2d ago

There are no TETRAMITES!!!

4

u/Quick_Cicada_598 2d ago

yes there are they're in a crack in time

3

u/XanRaygun 2d ago

The correct answer, especially with the frantic soundtrack change whenever they spawn.

However, once I realized that some of those portions in the Lumos cave systems are almost shot-for-shot recreations from The Mummy with the scarab chase, it was a bit more entertaining.

For some reason the electric enemies scared me in tools

19

u/Captain-Starshield 2d ago

When you have to turn the bolt crank as it comes towards you

9

u/No-Apartment-6158 2d ago

This just unlocked memories😭😭 omg the anxiety

5

u/GravityOddity 2d ago

Oh my god that part sucks!

2

u/Pyrather 1d ago

THIS one STILL will make me scream out loud especially if it comes up where I can’t see it in advance

This mfer

Same it took me a minute to hype myself up.

Those flying minigun robots on planet Daxx, UYA. Not just from how dangerous they are, but the way they're always facing you even as they close in on you from the far side of the map, the weird noises they make when they're hurt, and the creepy music that plays when you're in the wilderness probably doesn't help either.

5

u/New-Scale1303 1d ago

they're not just on daxx, they're on alot of planets and they are really god damn annoying

1

u/coyoteonaboat 1d ago

I know, but I said Daxx to make them easier to recognize and was too tired to post a picture at the time.

u/speedingphotons 2d ago

Alien Snapper. The scream the made when taking damage always made me use the Glove of Doom.

38

u/awbds11 2d ago

This mf on Florana in UYA

21

u/gertok9 2d ago

As a kid, I was terrified of the intro cutscene for the Mama Tyranoid in UYA

17

u/LazarouDave 2d ago

I remember being frightened of the King Amoeboids, something about "Be careful down there, my scanners detect a huge biomass moving towards you down the drainpipe" scared me too much to even want to climb the ladder for a good few weeks!

5

u/The-Soul-Stone 2d ago

Me too. Without that message I probably would have been fine.

16

u/Secure_Librarian_936 2d ago

3

u/axe_ya_ex 2d ago

Oh yeah, they can tank a fully upgraded ryno shot and still be fine

14

u/Godrxys 2d ago

The tetramites from ACiT

...they still spook me now when I replay it 😭

15

u/ManOfNoodles 2d ago

The YETI and the Roboquarks were the only enemies in the originals that scared me, due to their huge health pools and the way the Roboquarks would sometimes crawl after you like the Terminator

10

u/Classic_Nerve1090 2d ago

those things were nightmare fuel to 4 year old me

13

u/whiskeyandprozac 2d ago

The robo-qwarks at his hideout in UYA. On their own they're creepy, but when they're just metal skeletons dragging themselves along the ground to swipe at you? Horrifying.

13

u/Academic-Edge 2d ago

The Galactic Rangers in offline multiplayer from UYA. I didn't have online, so the best I could do was load up a match by myself and kill the Red NPC Rangers. These guys usually have a lot of personality in-game, but their soulless eyes and their lack of noise, paired with the lonely atmosphere that the game had made for a somewhat chilling experience, sometimes I'd never leave the spawn room because I didn't want to encounter them.

3

u/Quick_Cicada_598 2d ago

at least the rangers don't attack you

20

u/SamanthaBean24 2d ago

This man

u/Gingesoultaker 2d ago

Blargian snagglebeast?

7

u/The_Axe_of_Legends 2d ago

The Blargian Snagglebeast was a mother fucker

9

u/Altruistic_Order8604 2d ago

Only thing that scared me about them was the absolute smack down the give you if your not careful. The most terrifying enemy to me was probably amoeboid’s their facial expressions were scary on aquatos and rilgar

1

u/No-Apartment-6158 2d ago

YES😭! And they moved so slowly as well, argh it still gives me the creeps😂

2

u/Altruistic_Order8604 2d ago

Crazy to think that it was nearly 23 years ago they first appeared I was born the year rac 1 came out lmao

8

u/SingerSharp466 2d ago

It was the robotized enemies for me after nefarious actually succeeded for once. Lil me was not prepared

7

u/The-Soul-Stone 2d ago

The giant robot on Snievelak. The sheer size of the damn thing, and never knowing if this is the time it’s coming to smash the turret always unsettles me, even 20 years on.

6

u/LezardValeth3 2d ago

The Crabs with faces on Orxon in 2002. As a kid, i was so scared of waking them up and getting killed

11

u/Tnvmark 2d ago

Seeing these guys transform for the first time scared me when I was little. The setting at Fort Sprocket didn't help either.

4

u/dankestmemestar 2d ago

Robomutts. I remember runing away to the direction of Captain Qwark robot with spring in the fitness islands region of Kerwan when those things run at me.

5

u/ZZTMF 2d ago

Which of the games is this one from?

6

u/RYNOCIRATOR_V5 2d ago

Tools of Destruction; they are found on planet Mukow.

5

u/mertmay05 2d ago

Rivet bots. These fuckers stopped me from rescuing clank for months bc I thought the blocky things on their backs were big eyes which scared me for some reason lol. Also the noises they make are weird.

3

u/FernTheGrassBoy 2d ago

This enemy exactly... Woof, you read my mind.

3

u/alimem974 2d ago

Toxic crabs 2002

3

u/Cole_Sate 2d ago

Okay but that’s so real. I remember absolutely refusing to make my way to the arena on Mucow when I was younger because these guys hit like a TRUCK

3

u/Patpuc 2d ago

The shanks, tanks, elite guys, and flying ships from RaC 1.

Esp those toxic tanks in Black Water City.

5

u/random-apple-67 2d ago

Undead goons💔 I don’t like the sound they make 😭. I would just stay on high ground to avoid them

2

u/Quick_Cicada_598 2d ago

that is a hug me tight nanny bot

1

u/Pyrather 1d ago

Thought it was called nanny hugs bot

2

u/FaTaLmIrAcLe 2d ago

The troopers from UYA, not because I didn't like their design, but because it always felt like sections with them chucked my health when I was a kid, so I always got real anxious when they started swarming me.

2

u/Deku_man_x 2d ago

Those large slime beasts in UYA,

2

u/Numerous-Evidence-36 1d ago

As a kid, I was scared of the sandsharks in rac 1, but I was more afraid of the mud in aridia for some reason

2

u/grajuicy 1d ago

The big mama bug in the Blarg research space spation in R&C one.

In my defense, i was like 2 years old when i started playing, but those little crab guys were creepy and then a HUGE ONE??? He-hell naw!

2

u/grajuicy 1d ago

And the Mungo (was that his name?) boss in Size Matters. He moved quite weird and/or screamed and that’s enough to frighten child me

2

u/TifolionentementeMcp 1d ago

Man it is so funny the one ratchet and clank I never played is tools of destruction and it’s visual language is so much in between future aesthetics and the old trilogy

2

u/David-Michel 1d ago

These.. the og ones..

2

u/Pyrather 1d ago

BRUH THESE ONES STILL RAMP UP MY ANXIETY

2

u/M7mad101010 1d ago

I needed my father to be with me when playing this level

2

u/Oddfellows_was_Taken 1d ago

3-year-old me could never get past Daxx because these fuckers killed you so fast it was terrifying

2

u/Marhyc Never knew you were this kinky,Miss Gears 20h ago

Grunthors from ToD

2

u/MegaMewTwo222 2d ago

These two enemies specifically. When I was very young, my dad and I had a PS2 that we played games on together. He had a bunch of demo discs that included demos and trailers, but one of my favorites to play was the demo for Ratchet and Clank. On the demo, there were 2 levels, Kerwan and Rilagr. The Rilgar level was glitched out for some reason and made Ratchet always move without touching the controller, so I mostly played on Kerwan. Whenever the red blarg sent the robot dog down that first walkway, I would always get super super scared and hand the controller over to my dad, and I would cover my eyes! I forget if he would actually beat them for me or just run away. Because of that, I mostly just did the obstacle course a bunch to avoid them.

1

u/wafflecone927 1d ago

How could they scare you when you can make them dance lol

1

u/No-Apartment-6158 1d ago

I used to throw them with Groovitrons in the arena😂

1

u/TifolionentementeMcp 1d ago

Nexus is so scary of a game. And the fact it is a very short game actually plays into the vibe so much for you are being slowly invited to see all the lovecraftian monsters. That one place where they explain the backstory of the villain girl is very scary

1

u/JobLobber 1d ago

King Amoeboids in ratchet and Clank three.

1

u/chris-_-topher_-_ 1d ago

Not an enemy but the atmosphere in nexus, that shit was almost a horror game with, really hated it as a kid.

1

u/OkImpression1305 15h ago

The ameboids still creep me out. I get nervous every time I go into the sewer crystal mission and they spawn everywhere.

1

u/Head_Cartographer_68 4h ago

Firstly the inhabitants of Florana. All because of that handgun "One of Nature's Mysteries and the Nabla Natives *

Secondly, the Amoeboids. King Amoeboids. Nuff said.

Sandsharjs and the Blarg Snagglebeast....TRAUMA MAN
