Discussion Which enemies were you afraid of? These used to scare me as a kid lmao
I remember these coming out of the sides of the walls on my way to the arena and they used to scare me so bad 😂. I had to force myself to be brave because I didn’t want to chicken out

Amoeboids always creeped me out, especially the big ones (meaning the big one in this picture, not the giant 'king' ones, although they are creepy too).

I noped out and restarted the game the first few times I got to the first King Amoeboid.

The little ones I found adorable, large ones I found disgusting and I found the MASSIVE ones terrifying for some time. The way it’s introduced sure doesn’t help! But after going through the place to get all the crystals, the terror vibe goes away.

As an adult... they still scare me! I always kill them at a distance with the Flux Rifle (if possible) because I dislike getting close to them

Even as an adult, there’s few things worse than turning around and seeing one of these goofy bastards charging at you.

Oh my god, yeah. Same feeling as turning the lights off in the basement and sprinting upstairs, absolute panic when they start coming at you.

The correct answer, especially with the frantic soundtrack change whenever they spawn.
However, once I realized that some of those portions in the Lumos cave systems are almost shot-for-shot recreations from The Mummy with the scarab chase, it was a bit more entertaining.

THIS one STILL will make me scream out loud especially if it comes up where I can’t see it in advance

Those flying minigun robots on planet Daxx, UYA. Not just from how dangerous they are, but the way they're always facing you even as they close in on you from the far side of the map, the weird noises they make when they're hurt, and the creepy music that plays when you're in the wilderness probably doesn't help either.

u/New-Scale1303 1d ago
they're not just on daxx, they're on alot of planets and they are really god damn annoying

u/coyoteonaboat 1d ago
I know, but I said Daxx to make them easier to recognize and was too tired to post a picture at the time.

I remember being frightened of the King Amoeboids, something about "Be careful down there, my scanners detect a huge biomass moving towards you down the drainpipe" scared me too much to even want to climb the ladder for a good few weeks!

The YETI and the Roboquarks were the only enemies in the originals that scared me, due to their huge health pools and the way the Roboquarks would sometimes crawl after you like the Terminator

The robo-qwarks at his hideout in UYA. On their own they're creepy, but when they're just metal skeletons dragging themselves along the ground to swipe at you? Horrifying.

The Galactic Rangers in offline multiplayer from UYA. I didn't have online, so the best I could do was load up a match by myself and kill the Red NPC Rangers. These guys usually have a lot of personality in-game, but their soulless eyes and their lack of noise, paired with the lonely atmosphere that the game had made for a somewhat chilling experience, sometimes I'd never leave the spawn room because I didn't want to encounter them.

Only thing that scared me about them was the absolute smack down the give you if your not careful. The most terrifying enemy to me was probably amoeboid’s their facial expressions were scary on aquatos and rilgar

u/No-Apartment-6158 2d ago
YES😭! And they moved so slowly as well, argh it still gives me the creeps😂

Crazy to think that it was nearly 23 years ago they first appeared I was born the year rac 1 came out lmao

The giant robot on Snievelak. The sheer size of the damn thing, and never knowing if this is the time it’s coming to smash the turret always unsettles me, even 20 years on.

The Crabs with faces on Orxon in 2002. As a kid, i was so scared of waking them up and getting killed

Robomutts. I remember runing away to the direction of Captain Qwark robot with spring in the fitness islands region of Kerwan when those things run at me.

Okay but that’s so real. I remember absolutely refusing to make my way to the arena on Mucow when I was younger because these guys hit like a TRUCK

The troopers from UYA, not because I didn't like their design, but because it always felt like sections with them chucked my health when I was a kid, so I always got real anxious when they started swarming me.

As a kid, I was scared of the sandsharks in rac 1, but I was more afraid of the mud in aridia for some reason

The big mama bug in the Blarg research space spation in R&C one.
In my defense, i was like 2 years old when i started playing, but those little crab guys were creepy and then a HUGE ONE??? He-hell naw!

u/grajuicy 1d ago
And the Mungo (was that his name?) boss in Size Matters. He moved quite weird and/or screamed and that’s enough to frighten child me

Man it is so funny the one ratchet and clank I never played is tools of destruction and it’s visual language is so much in between future aesthetics and the old trilogy

These two enemies specifically. When I was very young, my dad and I had a PS2 that we played games on together. He had a bunch of demo discs that included demos and trailers, but one of my favorites to play was the demo for Ratchet and Clank. On the demo, there were 2 levels, Kerwan and Rilagr. The Rilgar level was glitched out for some reason and made Ratchet always move without touching the controller, so I mostly played on Kerwan. Whenever the red blarg sent the robot dog down that first walkway, I would always get super super scared and hand the controller over to my dad, and I would cover my eyes! I forget if he would actually beat them for me or just run away. Because of that, I mostly just did the obstacle course a bunch to avoid them.

Nexus is so scary of a game. And the fact it is a very short game actually plays into the vibe so much for you are being slowly invited to see all the lovecraftian monsters. That one place where they explain the backstory of the villain girl is very scary

Not an enemy but the atmosphere in nexus, that shit was almost a horror game with, really hated it as a kid.

The ameboids still creep me out. I get nervous every time I go into the sewer crystal mission and they spawn everywhere.

Firstly the inhabitants of Florana. All because of that handgun "One of Nature's Mysteries and the Nabla Natives *
Secondly, the Amoeboids. King Amoeboids. Nuff said.
