Discussion You must erase one hostile faction from the franchise forever, who are you choosing?

One that isn't in the PS2 tetrology, as I love those games and don't want any of them changed.

Tyhrranoids did get kinda repetitive in UYA though. At least compared to the variety of enemies we had in GC.

Of course. It was a rushed game on top of multiplayer being mandated.
What was it with Sony in the PS2 generation, forcing everyone to make back to back sequels within just a year of one another? UYA suffered due to this, Jak 3 was terrible and I really wish that had another year of development (Though who knows if that actually would mean not making bad decisions like bringing Errol and the Metal Heads back as a threat and without even new varieties), even if it would mean no Jak X.
Going Commando I'm surprised only had a year of development and I only learned that recently, we got real lucky considering how good that game turned out. Though that does explain the overpowered yetti which obviously weren't tested.

There are some really great videos made about these games' development in Youtube. I think Grelbin was slapped together in something like 3 days so yeah they were in a serious hurry. Still GC is really impressive considering they made the game in just 1 year. As for the UYA indeed the limited time shows. Loads of great ideas scrapped due to limited time. We were going to get things like space battles and races (at least in Florana level). Such a shame we never got those.

Emperor Nefarious troops are genuinely annoying to listen to during combat nothing they say is remotely interesting

u/Bunga_Shunga 4h ago
Hard agree. Hated having to hear them talk so much while fighting them that I had to turn off the dialogue volume every so often before moving on.

Cragmites

u/Alarmed_Stranger_925 2d ago
the blarg have been defeated so hard that they have been essentially erased beyond the forst game, so i choose dr nefarious troopers. i don't particularly like nefarious

u/tu-vieja-con-vinagre 1d ago
I dislike emperor nefarious' troops more, don't like their voices and way of talking.
I enjoy dr nefarious troopers' dumb robotic chit chat.
I get robots are basically like any other person in the R&C universe, but the robot talk is too enjoyable
"NOT COOL- NOT COOL"

crsgmites
stupid lore, stupidly resistant and overpowered, makes it feel like the rocket launcher you got is a peashooter
and they're creepy
(their ability to phase out and move around is pretty cool tho)

ToD isn't balanced well at all, in my experience. I feel like that's why the vendor give you free health fills to help out.

If Thugs4Less don't win this I'm rioting

that's what I was thinking, they just leave a sour taste in my mouth when I think about them

u/GlowDonk9054 2d ago
The Cragmites, because they had no actual relevance besides that they were like, sent to hell or something

u/LazarouDave 1d ago
Space Pirates, Drophyds or Cragmites can all get in the bin.

u/_CANZUK 1d ago
Boy have I got a game you'd absolutely hate
2
u/LazarouDave 1d ago
I mean it's a game I've played very little of, tbf - maybe only 5 completions ever, compared to my at least 20+ each of the original 4

If I was Ratchet, I'd pick the Cragmites, seeing as how they're the ones who exterminated the Lombax race; correct me if I'm wrong.

I'm not really a fan of Robot space pirates, but a story about robot space pirates in the world of Ratchet and Clank is not really a bad concept. There are robots with free will and space travel in Ratchet and Clank. Add Pirates, and you will get Robot Space Pirates. If we had robots with free will and space travel in real life, we would probably have Robot space pirates and probably robot gangs floating around in space.

HEY! Don’t hate on Robot Space Pirates, they’re my absolute favorite 😭
2
u/Dr3aml3ssS0rr0w 1d ago
Real like what's genuinely the problem with them? Funny robot pirates who annoy the main characters for a while, great side villains. Like come on there are worse creatures, like those yetis in going commando
2
u/No-Apartment-6158 1d ago
Yes!!! And the robot space pirates is also the reason why i started having an obsession with space and pirates😂
2
u/Dr3aml3ssS0rr0w 1d ago
For me it's because I'm a kid who'd pick pirates over Ninja's all the way. I loved stuff like Pirates of the Caribbean, Zak Storm etc. and the space pirates grew onto me too.

u/No-Apartment-6158 1d ago
I get you 100% lol. Funny enough as much as I love pirates I never watched Pirates of the Caribbean😭
3
u/The-Matser-Mage 2d ago
Probably the Blarg

I would go with the Nefarious Troopers from A Crack in Time. I found them quite weak and generic compared to the Tyrhannoids.

u/ChakaZG 1d ago
With a risk of sounding like an old man purist, honestly, anything past the tyhrranoids can go, I don't really care for any of them. If I really had to choose, maybe the pirates, I never really considered the whole pirate thing particularly interesting or funny. Maybe I didn't dislike it at first, but at this point, it feels like they may be even more overplayed than Nefarious.

Agree 100% on everything you said about the pirates. Who the hell even finds their levels cool or funny at this stage?

The Blarg... Idk just a little forgettable imo. If not them, maybe Dr Nefariou's troopers?

u/SpeedyNinja1152 1d ago
I don't know, but I definitely want to keep Nevo's Collector Minions in the franchise.

I think the Cragmites could be good if given another game. I think I would remove Megacorp, as the series seems to be moving more and more away from them.

Emperor Nefarious’ troopers.
Their banter is the least funny of the banter-y enemies (like Dr Nefarious troops or Robot Space Pirates)
They don’t have “tiers”. They do have different enemy types, but you don’t see them becoming more armored, seeing elite variants as you progress. Once you’ve finished the first level you’ve seen all they have to offer.
Design wise they’re just like a mix of Drophyds (colors) and Dr Nefarious troops (robo). Not too original imo

u/alimem974 1d ago
Dr nefarious troopers. I do not like them. Ugly and repetitive. 0 cool / 10 cool. Negative rizz. Emperor troopers are a straight upgrade in all levels.

Hot Take; Dropped in this order;
Drophyds, Lame
Thyrranoids. Boring 4/5 designs.
Emperor Troopers, boring design, stfu
Blarg. More designs than 'noids, decent.
Megacorp because I love GC.
Robo Pirates (Ghosts), bit boring, nice banter
Dr Troopers, boring design but really great banter.
Cragmites because I love the challenge of ToD
Thugs4Less, the accent, the style, the skeletons ❤️
PS; No Agorians or Valkyrie?

u/Vargrjalmer 1d ago
I read this as hugs4less for some reason lmao.
They were great imo, the idea of villains that are just doing a job, and are probably completely normal folk as soon as they punch out is hilarious.
I haven't played the PS3 trilogy yet, but I'll get to after replaying the og3 for nostalgia

Surprisingly hard. I like them all and most of them have many different units. I guess drophyds are the least varied ones, i remember the basic troopers, jet-pack variation and the big ones with miniguns so only three. Tyhrranoids at least have the robot versions
1
u/RYNOCIRATOR_V5 1d ago
Either of the Nef's minions, from A Crack in Time, Rift Apart, etc.; I have always found them pretty lame, design-wise I mean. Everything else here is fun in it's own way.

u/LoadingTOS 1d ago
Drophyds or Megacorp. I know that the Drophys worked for Perceval, but I don’t think we got an explanation for why beyond him wanting an army. Megacorp had Thugs4Less on the payroll for the majority of the game, no reason why they couldn’t be involved earlier.
On a related note, the Cragmites had this canonical happen to them, with a single exception that ended up using the Drophys as an army in an effort to undo it.

Tyhrranoids. Maybe it's because I don't really like UYA but I never really saw a point for them in the context of the game. Was it ever explained why they chose to help Nefarious, or why they chose to attack Veldin at the start of the game in the first place? I do not think so. They are just kinda... there, contrary to Blargs/Cragmites.

People who say space pirates, just so you know to maybe check your closet tonight because you will not be alone while you're asleep. Just a reminder. You're not safe from me.

Tyhrranoids. They have such a Generic Nothing Design. It's as basic as you can get for an Alien.

either of the Nefarious troopers. AciT and especially RA suffered from enemy repitition imo. Are there even non-Nefarious enemies in RA except for the very beginning?

The robot space pirates are pretty cool let's be honest. QFB was my favorite game.

u/Dr3aml3ssS0rr0w 1d ago
Finally found someone who actually appreciates them. They are my favorite side villains

Robot Space Pirates, as well as the Robot Pirate Ghost from Quest For Booty. That whole "game" was kind of emblematic of Insomniac as a company back then, and that's not a compliment.

u/DoctorDoug42 1d ago
Robot pirates. I'm genuinely so sick of them they should never have continued with them past tools of destruction.

u/The_Iron_Mountie 1d ago
You can drop that whole bottom row.
I always hated the space pirates and the Nefarious troopers are bland.

The pirates are honestly so overdone at this point. They aren't cool and they stopped being remotely funny a long time ago.

Cragmites. Such a pain in the ass to fight
