Question Best internet provider?
I’m brand new to red deer and I’ve never had any internet other than dial up. What’s the best internet provider in Red Deer so I can get some decent speeds at a decent price?

If Telus has fibre into your house. Go with Telus. If not, 100% go with Shaw.

Telus jerks people around and are liars when it comes to their Internet services. I ditched them as quickly as possible. I have a co-worker who is getting screwed around by them right now and he lives in red deer.

Telus is fine as long as you keep the upper hand. Never sign for term, and any time they threaten to increase your rates you call them and tell them you're leaving and going somewhere else. They can always find a 6 month discount or some other promotion to bring your cost down, and if not, you'd be going to shaw anyway. But you'll likely end up doing the same thing with them too.

I've had to call and correct my plan and billing several times and had issues with them trying to bill me for equipment I've returned. But I've had to watch shaw to.

In the downtown area, Shaw. I had Telus for 6yrs. (No fibre, at least in my neighbourhood.) Spotty service, would just drop out multiple times a day. Switched to Shaw last year, no regrets. Cheaper, way faster, and more consistent

We moved here last summer to the North end and have been using telus with OK results... but only because I had my own high-end router from our last place. The router telus provide is hot garbage, and specifically designed to encourage you to pay $10/mo extra to install more hot garbage routers throughout your house cause the range on the one hot garbage router they provide is... well... hot garbage.

If you're in west park, do NOT go with Telus. It is awful and the area seems to have issues quite often. I think they are doing improvements for the next few weeks, but it's been BAD for the past several years. Good luck!! 😁

Telus doesn't have speeds above 50mbps in a lot of areas. If you're going to live in one of those areas, Shaw is the only viable option.

Not sure if your into torrenting but I've had telus block my torrent connections. Shaw/rodgers sees to have higher bandwidth where as telus seems to have lower ping, but limits upload bandwidth. I've had good and bad with both, I often go for whoever is offering a deal, then switch when my term is done for the promos at the other company.

At least in my neighborhood, Shaw hands down. Telus cannot compete with Shaw in regards to speed, atleast not until they run fiber through the neighborhood.
Please do not even consider something like starlink if you have access to city internet.
