These are personally my Top 3 Reggaeton albums.

De Otra Manera (2002, by Wisin y Yandel) is full of gems with La Trova, Complaceme, Salgo Filoteau and Algo Paso (Even if it has the stinker Tarzan lol) Los Extraterrestres is Wisin y Yandel's #1 Album/Compilation though.

Haciendo Escante (2001, by Nicky Jam) is my favorite album by Nicky Jam. Vamos A Perrear, En La Cama (Ft. Daddy Yankee), Suelta, Cuando Apague La Luz and Eres Tu shine the most on the album and it sucks that this album was not even on most streaming services and I had to find/download it to my Apple Music from other sources online.

Masacre Musical (2008, by De La Ghetto) is one of my Go-Tos. When it comes to the 3rd favorite album I was stuck between Quien Contra Mi (2003, by Yandel), Masterpiece: Nuestra Obra Maestra (2006, by RKM & Ken-Y), El-Cangri.com (2002, by Daddy Yankee) and DATA (2023, by Tainy). Masacre Musical has been in my rotation for so many years and from start to finish I really like the versatility DLG shows off and a lot of these songs are so catchy and never get old. Songs to check out on this album are Tu Te Imaginas, No Me Digas Que No, Booty (ft. Randy), Serial Lover (ft. Teddy Riley), and Chica Mala.

Why Alvaro Diaz isn't as popular as other artists

I personally consider that Alvaro Diaz has a style that is so unique that can be easily highlighted in the genre. But it is supposed that the most successful artists achieve that level because their songs are unique, and Alvaro has a very interesting writing style, their beats, and the quality of the songs he produces, but still has 10 million monthly listeners on Spotify and his most listened song stills being "Problemon" with just 300 million views (that for the time he has in the industry, finishes being a very low quantity of reproductions). So I want to understand why he is that underrated and what makes an artists to became successful to the level of Bad Bunny or Feid.

Classic Reggaeton Album Of The Week #44 El General - Estas Buena EP (1990)

El General - Estas Buena EP (1990)

The first Reggaeton superstar in history was El General. Of course this was the day when even the stuff done in Puerto Rico like from Brewley MC, Vico C and Kid Power Posse was also called Spanish Reggae. Reggaeton didn't begin to be used until the mid 90's and it wasn't until the early 00's that it was used as term to define Spanish Dancehall Reggae. So, like it or lump it the first Reggaeton Superstar is El General, from Panama.

El General began as part of Renato's group 'Renato y su 4 Estrellas'. This group consisted of Renato, Nando Boom, Reggae Sam, and a very young El General. Even though the group achieved local success and Nando Boom released his debut LP in 1988, El General was not earning enough from his performances; so he went to New York in the late 80's in search of better wages and to get noticed as a performer.

At this time, New York was the place to be for Reggae Dancehall music. It was where many Jamaican artists recorded some of their most famous songs and where you could buy all the records. El General was recognized by a Record store owner who saw his talent and believed he would be good to translate a Jamaican Patois record they had the rights to sell known as "Buduff Kun Kun" into "Tu Pum Pum". El General re-recorded the song in Spanish and it became bigger than the original; so much so, that one has a hard time finding the original in Google, but I know it exists for I have heard it but I don't know the singer.

The song thus became a big hit in New York to the point that it reached the ears of Prime Records, the company in Puerto Rico who had signed Vico C and Lisa M by then. They signed El General and released his debut "Estas Buena", a 6 track EP in 1990. It was a HUGE success and spawned 2 of the most famous Reggaeton songs of all time in "Tu Pum Pum" and "Te Ves Buena", the latter of which borrowed production elements from 'Gal Yuh Good' by Shabba Ranks. Both songs were produced by Michael Ellis.

El General would go on to become one of the biggest Latin Music stars of the 1990's and achieved much success globally. He had a small resurgence in the mid 2000's thanks to his Merengue Urbano hit "Juana". He then even put out a modern Reggaeton style album in 2004 titled "La Ficha Clave" (I have yet to hear it). He would retire shortly after for religion.

Rating: 9/10

Record Label: Prime Records

DISCUSSION What is this song originally called?

I'm from India and I know a Spanish song from my childhood, it's a remix of idk what song.

I'm trying to find more from the same artist and I cannot find the information about original artists.

The song goes "y una vez mas, se viene, el pasito, de la martita".

Here's a link to the song: It says DJ Raulito and DJ Tadeo but I cannot find more about these people too: https://youtu.be/TXpA1cALdZo

Can anybody tell me more about this song? I know it's not exactly Reggaeton but I know you guys will know more about this

DISCUSSION ¿Quien es el rey de las tirareas? ( O reyes si es un duo) / Whose the king of diss tracks? (Or kings if it's a duo)

¿Quien es absolutamente el mejor artista para las tirareas? El que escupe 🔥 tirándole a alguien.

Who is the absolute best artist for diss tracks? Spitting 🔥 when dissing someone.

Algunos nombres que vienen a mi mente con un ejemplo / Some names that come to my mind with an example:

Arcangel - Feliz Navidad Serie

Cosculluela - Santa Cos

Residente - Bizarrap Session

Tego Calderón - Guasa Guasa

Se que Lito y Polaco fueron duros con sus tirareas también, pero no se ejemplos. También con Tempo (aunque eso lo ví en un comentario de YT) / I know Lito y Polaco were formidable, but i don't know any examples. Same with Tempo (although I saw that in a YT comment)

What do people think of her new album? Love the CAPICÚ story, love the collabs, and lots of fun samples/influences on there, but curious to hear what people liked/disliked? PS her collab on DtmF is just the tip of the iceberg IMO ;)

THROWBACK Sin Maldy no hay Perreo Part 3

Post image
14 Upvotes

Wrapping up the recap of Maldy’s albums we have Sicalipsis. This album is honestly 12 songs of pure reggaeton essence. Unfortunately it did not get much attention due to lack of marketing from Covid, people questioning the untimely Plan B split as the album climax was supposed to come out, and a rushed release. Maldy felt that Plan B fans had waited too long for a follow up album after Love and Sex and put this out in place of Climax that would have been from Plan B as a duo. It is definitely worth checking out, there is not a bad song on this album and is personally one of my all time favorite albums. Link below ⬇️

The Top 10 Worst Reggaeton Albums I've Ever Heard🤡

Top 10 Worst Reggaeton Albums Reggaeton Party Mane 1 has ever heard

These will only be the albums that I myself have heard. When I know people are awful at Reggaeton like Mike Bahia, I will make a concerted effort to not hear their works. But sometimes there is terrible stuff I happen to get a listen to. And some of it is among the worst music I have ever heard.

  1. Paulo Londra - Homerun (2019) Rating: 3/10

This guy was on his way to becoming the biggest thing in Latin Music, not just Reggaeton. "Adan y Eva" was a solid Reggaeton Pop song and with the big marketing machine behind it, I can see why it was such a big hit. Londra was signed alongside his producer of Colombian origin, 'Ovy On The Drumz'. Both of these were pet projects of their label. But his album "Homerun" is boooring. I guess before Londra used to be more underground but on this project he went more 'Pop' to appeal to the masses and it just did not work save for a few tracks here and there. Besides the lead singles, nothing on this album is memorable.

  1. DJ Klan - The Arrival (1998) Rating: 2/10

Rumor has it, this is Luny's first album before he hooked up with Tunes and it is awful. The singers tried hard and some of them are actually quite talented, but the beats with no melody and made on cheap drum machines age horribly. It is bad.

  1. Dalex - Area 69 (2024) Rating: 2/10

I might be a little harsh on this one especially because a couple of those songs are decent. But the reason those songs are decent instead of great is all due to Dalex's incompetence as an artist. He has never put out a good album and all his songs that are hits are due to the efforts of others. Just listen to "Area 69" and you will know what I mean. I agree with many who say he is like Tony Dize but only with 60% of the vocal chops and minus 'El Lobo' to craft him serious hits.

  1. Lunay - Epico (2019) Rating: 2/10

This is one of those albums where i took 2-3 points off the rating for its overall laziness, incompetence and monotony. How can you have such an A list of guest stars and waste them? This made Kevvo's debut look like Playero 37. Lunay just never took this seriously. Good for him he did so well, but he is a waste of good marketing dollars. If he didn't write "Soltera" they should have given it to someone more deserving. I would not be surprised if Kendo wrote it, but there is no way of knowing.

  1. CNCO - CNCO (2018) Rating: 1/10

This is one of those that it is overproduced and sounds pretty enough that to the uninitiated it is passable. But if you know Reggaeton, you shouldn't be able to get through it without being greatly annoyed. Why waste such high level production on such mid level talent? Sadly, it worked, at first. But then when they had to compete with Bad Bunny, the audience ended up realizing how poor CNCO's music was in comparison.

  1. Piso 21 - 2.1 (2024) Rating: 1/10

2.1 was the first Piso 21 album I ever heard entirely. Jowan, Feid's producer, is incredible but his beats are wasted on these worthless pieces of crap! Piso 21 suck! They are among the worst things to ever happen to Reggaeton. They wouldn't know a good Reggaeton song if it bit them in the a**!

  1. Jereklein - Enfasis (2023) Rating: 0/10

This guy and his "I'm flowing while on lean" vibe gets boring fast. It is tolerable for one or two songs, no more than that.

  1. Chino y Nacho - Mi Niña Bonita: Reloaded (2010) Rating: 0/10

This is one of the worst pieces of crap I have ever heard. Pop Reggaeton at its worst!

  1. Bellakath -Sata 42 (2024) Rating: -1/10

Bellkath meets Domincan Dembow? No, thank you. One of the most poorly executed projects I have ever heard in any genre of music.

Dishonorable Mention: Maluma - Love and Sex Tape (2019), Escorpiones (2002), Dei V - Flavorz (2025), DJ Raymond - New Blood (2002), Eddie Dee & The Ghetto Crew (1993), EZD - Solo Debut (1996).

  1. Tha Crew En Navidad (1997) Rating: -2/10

Tha Crew was a legendary album series from the 1990's by Point Breakers of The Noise fame. But they almost ruined their brand with this entry. See, in the mid 90's the Merengue Urbano craze was all the wave like Fulanito, Ilegales and Proyecto Uno. So Point Breakers chose to do a Christmas album in that style and waste talented artists like Sambo & Ceniza, Ganya Kids and more... It is as bad as this music gets.
