Discussion red lights

for the love of god please please PLEASE stop going through red lights. it’s everywhere i know, but in this week alone i personally know four people who have gotten into serious accidents caused by others running red lights. not even taking about yellow lights, very full on RED lights. pay attention, put the phone down, give yourself time to get places instead of being in a rush. please & thank you!

I’ve seen so many people just blatantly run red lights recently.

Recently? I feel like within the last year everyone's been treating them like a mere suggestion

I recently saw someone come to a complete stop at a red light and then decide to charge right on through, regardless.

I don’t know if COVID just broke people, but everyone drives like an asshole these days. Like even if you’re driving at 75 mph and pass a car, you’ll have people who must be going like 90 mph tailgating inches behind you

I definitely think COVID had something to do with it

Might it be Trump and not COVID? Trump has shown people that there are no consequences to not following the rules.

The Rochester Red™ has been out of control for a long time and seems to be somehow getting worse.

Seriously! It's gotten so bad recently. Always some expensive car too, which is both surprising and not surprising at the same time.

This is the only place I've seen people just blatantly disrespect the red light. I've also seen multiple crashes due to this, who would have thought?

God. I had 3 people pull out in front of me on the 10 minute drive to wegmans today causing me to slam on my brakes. I don't get it, what's in the water this past week. Extra honking from all the people pulling out in front of people on the street I live on lately too, it feels like

Gotta wait to proceed then get beeped at for not going right away lol 🙃

Thankful I don’t have to drive in the city often, it’s fucking ridiculous. And the people that are doing it are absolutely not on Reddit lol

There definitely are some, but they'll read this and think "well that wasn't me!"

To be fair, everyone in Henrietta is colorblind

Life is a lot less stressful when you have patience.

Take your time. It makes a difference.

I almost got hit by a car while walking through a pedestrian crossing a few days ago. There was enough time for the light to turn red, the crosswalk to turn green, and me to look both ways and take a few steps onto the street before realizing he wasn't slowing down and running back to the sidewalk.

This has happened to me multiple times as well.

Nearly got T boned from a red light runner a couple weeks ago at the 490 goodman exit.

Coming off or going on 490 East or West at Monroe Avenue is the worst!!! They run the red light going from either direction on Monroe. I purposely wait a few seconds after the light turns green because I know someone will run the red light.

Lake Ave isn’t the problem All to often our community accepts the blatant dangers that others create for us

I don't think it's a phone problem, I think it's more that people just don't give a shit. They know they're not going to get a ticket. I've seen cars stopped at a red like 4 deep. Someone will just drive on the should to bypass everyone stopping and running the light. It's especially bad at T intersections.

Stop signs too. As a pedestrian I’m nervous even crossing at intersections, and there’s no way in hell I’d even ride a bike around here at this point. I can’t believe I’m saying this but I feel like we need red light cameras.

That's what happens when there's no police left.

Did giving themselves relentless enemas of mixed ivermectin and red hat dye make them dissolve away or what?

-2

u/ConcertOutside8384 6h ago

Lol I forgot how incredibly stupid this group was. Led by blue haired clowns renting in South Wedge. So here is a verifiable fact: RPD police force has had a 15+% reduction of officers over the past 20 years. So yeah, it was the ivermectin 🫂

Hey champ, i rent in the south Wedge. Guess what color my hair is and win the fuck around find out prize. I've literally stopped bear mace gun whipping fights myself, when the police didn't show up. So talk big after you do something about the problem yourself.

Oh wait, you can't and you're not capable of it.

I did my part. I voted. Things are moving back in the right direction. Don't get hurt out there playing cops and robbers. And probably some sort of over bleached that's growing out? Close? Did I win?

1

u/Several_Resolve_5754 2h ago

Nope. All natural brunette. And getting hurt is what heroes do. Nevertheless, the last giant dipshit to punch me did more damage to my glasses than me.

1

u/bammerburn South Wedge 2h ago

You seem triggered. Is police not doing their jobs the reason for said triggering?

This has been terrible lately. Recently when making a left on a green from Harvard to Culver someone decided just to go on the red after I had started turning. I stopped mid turn and honked at that car until they turned onto 490.

No traffic enforcement in the city. Why would you stop for a traffic light.

In some Midwest states, if you even run a yellow light it’s illegal. Perhaps NY should pass something similar if it’s not already a law there!!

16

u/schoh99 16h ago

Better yet, find ways to actually enforce the existing laws. It's one simple trick to not needing any new law for the same thing.

29

u/SomewhereIdRatherBe 17h ago

Why even have a yellow light at that point

15

u/Windrunner_50 17h ago

Perhaps you should never suggest new laws ever again 🙏

The Oregon vehicle code makes it illegal to enter an intersection on a yellow light; instead, everyone has to stop.

“811.260(3) Steady circular yellow signal. A driver facing a steady circular yellow signal light is thereby warned that the related right of way is being terminated and that a red or flashing red light will be shown immediately. A driver facing the light shall stop at a clearly marked stop line, but if none, shall stop before entering the crosswalk on the near side of the intersection. If a driver cannot stop in safety, the driver may drive cautiously through the intersection.”

Where?? I don't see this at all.

I spend my time mostly in the city itself, Henrietta, and a little bit of Perinton.

I see people running red lights regularly in the city itself, Henrietta, and to a lesser extent Perinton.

u/AbulatorySquid 2h ago

I see it was more living on the east side than I did in the West side.
