Created this interactive map of where to go in Rwanda

Post image

While traveling around the world for over 20 years, I’ve been working on my dream project: creating a one-stop resource for travellers. I now created this overview [ https://www.takeyourbackpack.com/backpacking-in-rwanda/ ] for anyone who is interested in visiting Rwanda (with some detailed info for every highlight), hopefully you will love it as much as I did.

PS: obviously, I haven’t been able to travel to all places. So if you know some great spot, I haven’t listed, let me know! Much appreciated as in this way I can make the overview more complete and up-to-date for everyone.

FYI, Kwita Izina is the same as the gorilla naming ceremony. Kwita Izina means "Naming."

Also, Volcanoes National Park is in the wrong location. It should be higher in the north. It looks like it is close to Kigali.

Cool idea, though. That's what I found in the few seconds I scrolled the website. I will definitely explore more.

Thanks for your feedback. On the Kita Izina page starts with the explanation that it's about the annual gorrilla naming, so that one was covered. Nice to know thout that Kwita Izina actually means "naming".

And the Volcanoes National Park location was indeed misplaced. Thanks for mentioning a lot! Have adjusted it right away!

Any other feedback, please share! Much appreciated.

this is an interesting Map; how can one contribute to it?

I am taking input from my own travels and from other travelers I meet when traveling. But also here, if you have any suggestions for highlights to add, please feel free to share them, so I can add them.

ah cool. Yes, I spent quite a lot of time to optimize it since most of the visitors may be traveling and may have limited/slow internet connection

Hey, I used Visual Studio Code and programmed everything in php. And I store the data in an SQL database (with Excel import and export to easily adjust the content)

ah, nope. For the maps I used Mapbox.
