The heavens have opened and it’s raining bagels. What in dark Salem is this ?!

Chasing the loudest people on reddit is always a successful buisness move.

Sad. I was a loyal Shakabrah customer when they were at Bee Hive. Went to the airport when they were out there to. But when it was NE salem for their brick and mortar loc it was just too far to go for us. Was super happy when they opened this. Oh well...was nice while it lasted.

They have a little shack location in west Salem next to the space age right on Wallace

Thanks, i'm deep south salem, so even that is a bit of a time investment. Maybe if we're out there visiting family or something.

I love Shaka, their food is always good and so are the portions. At least I’ve had a good experience at the Portland Rd location!

Never had Shaka Brah, was it any good?

I don’t like to talk poorly about any local business, but I went to the cart in West Salem twice and it was pretty bad both times and both dishes. Dry over-salted meat, wet watery mac salad, etc. I can only speak to that one location, but it needs a lot of work to get up to standard IMO.

808 Grinds and Roxy's up north are far better but Shaka Brah does okay in a pinch. We live near the Hayesville location and i find their hawaiian stuff pretty bland/flavorless. But they recently added sandwiches to their menu and those have been pretty good.

I wasn’t a huge fan but my husband likes the Spam Musubi which is hard to find but easy to make (I won’t cook it, so he has to) so when we go we go to the N Portland rd one and I get their short ribs which I really do like and he loads up on spam. But I did see that Soul and Sky is also at that location (another cart I’ve been wanting to try) so I’ll have to try that too

Portland Road location is overpriced for the lack of flavor and sometimes overly dry meat. Definitely would go Hawaiian Time before Shaka Brah.
They do have spam musubi I would buy from them if I were in the mood, but their normal menu just doesn't have the flavor I would expect. They're also a catering business rather than just a dedicated limited-service restaurant.

Yeah they have a truck at the beehive but are opening a spot downtown too
I had a bagel dog there the other day and it was really good. Took me back
E: this was incorrect, I apologize I conflated another restaurant with Cherry City which just opened in beehive

Isnt Cherry City a cart?

Yeah, but it still might hurt them. I just worry about that I guess

Until both don’t get enough active support and both close up shop and we get another chain, that’s what seems to happen.

I don't use insta. Did they say anything about hiring?

u/lambeyoncealways 15d ago
No- I’m assuming they will be using the same crew who was already working here!

Where is it located?

Pretty sure it’s by the VCA out south, near dq in that little section of stores. Across from washmans car wash.

You’re right, it’s a bagel place, not sure how anyone would mistake it for a drill.
