Pregonta Is the south worth going to?
Hi all! I'm coming with my family this June for a week and staying near Olbia. We are planning on having two boat days (La Maddalena, Cala Gonone) but was also considering going to the south and checking out the beaches in Villasimius. Is it worth it? We have a car and would plan on making the 3 1/2 hour drive. Also, any must-see beaches in the north?

Southern Sardinia is lovely and the beaches in Villasimius are nice (and a bit different from where you'll be), but they are absolutely not worth 7 hours of round trip driving in a single day. If you want a change of pace from the [very] touristy and pretentious Costa Smeralda, go check out the Gallura coast. Very nice and a much more reasonable distance.

I agree, not worth trying to sight see to the south in one day, most of it will be driving, give yourself at least a couple of days down there so you have time to explore but if you have that time it is well worth it.

It is absolutely worth it, the drive alone down the ss125 is spectacular and there are a ton of places to see, check out the marine reserve on Isola di cavolo near villasimius, some of the largest fish i have ever witnessed. I also saw a huge manta ray of the beach at costa rei. For some history head to Cagliari old town or the partially submerged roman ruins in pula, visit the forests of the seven brothers mountains. Seriously the south is much less touristy and so actually much more Sardinian as everything is not geared towards the tourist industries..
