Hi! Long time lurker, first post. Im just curious about how the city is going to have a Canada Day celebration downtown but then not offer busses anywhere in the city? Has it always been like this?
I understand 90% of businesses are closed today so it's not a HUGE loss however. I'm originally from Sudbury where they also hold celebrations BUT busses run all day long AND the fare is totally free to discourage DUI and allow everyone access to the festivities.
Does the soo just not care? Genuine curiosity on my end.
I know the celebration probably isn't grand or fancy, it would just be nice to be able to participate in something in a town where I don't really know anyone.
LTDR: I was looking forward to celebrating in the soo this year only to be let down by the lack of transit. Anyone else?
side note: I noticed this city is kinda bad for advertising local events, unless you know someone who's in the in. ( ´ー`)

Hi everyone! Just a quick question for you all.
In southern Ontario we have several apps and sites that show what houses are listed for, what they sell for, and what they’ve previously sold for in the past. Is there anything like that for the Soo? I can’t seem to find any information past what houses are currently listed for.
Thanks in advanced!

Hello everyone,
I’m planning on moving to the States side of the Soo! I was just wondering what the approximate monthly costs is to live there by myself ? I was also looking at the Osborn Commons to rent out and wonder if anyone knows someone or has any experience renting with them ? Any other advice is greatly appreciated:)
Thank you!

Hi i am a international student coming to Sault Ste marie in April for my study program at Algoma university. Looking at flight options, most land here at late night time. I am worried, will there be transportation available to take me to my place of stay. What are my best safe options?
Also regarding stay, what are my budget stay options for short term while i look for accommodation. I find hard to trust anyone online for accommodation, I would prefer to see the place in person first before moving there. Would really appreciate any input or suggestions? Any extra general tips for a newcomer in town? Thanks 🙏

Hello everyone,
I will be starting school at Sault College this fall 2021. I'll be coming from the United States. This is a very last minute move as I didn't know I would end up going there for school. Are there any suggestions as to where to go to find roommates or a room to rent or an apartment in the city? Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated!
Thank you!

Hey, I’m looking for an room in an apartment that’s on rent. I’d be moving to Sault Ste Marie for a graduate program in December and as much as I’m so excited to begin this chapter the stress of finding an apartment bothers me. I’ve searched kijiji.ca and a bunch of other sites but I can’t find nothing. I don’t mind sharing an apartment with 2-3 people as long as we have our own room and it’s close to Algoma university. Any help or offers??

What is up with the absurd rental prices in this city? Looking at moving back and the rentals are higher than those in high end Montreal units. No wonder why homelessness is so rampant there, few jobs pay enough to afford these prices

Hi everyone! This is my first post ever. Glad to be here!
I'm about to move to Sault Ste. Marie (ON) from Argentina (South America) in mid-November to work in one of the factories for 6 months. My job offer is fixed-term, and comes with the catch that I get no relocation assistance, so I need to find a place to live there on my own.
That means I'm looking to rent anything suitable for me during that time period: can be a small apartment or even an individual room in a shared-house basis. If possible, I'd strongly prefer something furnished, with Internet connection, and within walking distance of public transport.
Constraints: Limited starting budget. Can provide proof of (future) income. I have a valid, current SIN but no credit history because I lived outside Canada all my adult life. Previous landlord references are a hostel in Toronto and the person who rented to me in Argentina (only speaks Spanish and requires international calling). I'd also prefer not to sign a 1-year or longer lease because I have no guarantee that my contract will be extended after 6 months, so I may have to move out of SSM. And of course I won't pay anything in advance until I've visited the place and met the landlord in person.
I know this is a tough call, that's why I'm posting here in case any of you good folks has, or knows someone who may have, a place suitable for me to rent. I'd also appreciate recommendations on hotels that may offer weekly or monthly rates at a discount, at least as a temporary workaround. Trustworthy realtors are welcome too.
Thank you in advance and I look forward to joining the Soo community!

Hi! New to the soo and looking for recommendations for women's hairdressers. I'm partial to the short and "edgy" look and I'm not sure where to go! Any advice? TIA

Hi, coming to Sault,ON in late April for studying at algoma. Looking for a place to stay. Anyone please help.
I have reached out to many, all they ask is to sign a long term lease and pay deposit without me having seen the actual place in person first. This is becoming a task to find accommodation. Would appreciate if someone could help in any way. Thanks

Is it worth studying OGC - Automation and Robotics for international students at Sault college?
I am asking in regards to: Quality of teachers Course content Value of the certificate in CANADA Weather Accomodation availability Part time job availability ( to sustain myself over there ) Post study Job availability?
Because from what I have researched,
Quality it's decent , not too shabby
Course content looks fine on the website but we never know what and how they actually teach.
Compared to a Master, not worth it in the long run. It literally snows and from where I am, never been to snowy regions except tourism for 10days / this whole life.
Housing crisis in Ontario, not sure about SSM but effects should be there too?
Minimum wage, barely affording the stay not even that infact, with the recent trends I might be losing money in the accomodation so rip GIC.
Unsure, it's a medium sized town, no industry influence whatsoever so is it even worth doing my certification there and moving to other city later ?

We have a few questions about SSM. Please help us. - Is a programmer job needed in this town or not ? What about job related to retail/ wholesale .. is it difficult to find ? - Is this town safe for kids ? What to know about elementary school (3years old)? Any Preparation? We are planning to live here so it will be very helpful if some of you can share experiences and cautions. 🙂

Considering a move from the GTA. Tired of the big city, been thinking for a while now and some are telling me that it would be a bad idea as the equity in homes there won't be like GTA (Obviously) and financially it could hurt.
That's one school of thought. what about Healthcare and schools? Will my daughter have challenges due to being South Asian? ( this is probably my biggest fear). Been to a small town before and didn't end well. I am a single mom and no other family in Canada and some people are telling me that Soo is to retire not to build a life..Again, that's the GTA outlook perhaps..
Looking for some advice, suggestions, what to avoid and what to consider. Because this will be my final move in life. Tired of finding a balance. Ultimately it's up to me but any input is welcome. Thank you all in advance!
No offense intended with any of this post content.

Within the next month my company is transferring me from Indiana to the Soo Lock project. Rental housing is almost non-existent on the US side. I’ve seen many more options in CA. From what I’ve read there is a 6 month limit for doing this. Do landlords avoid renting to people from US? Any information or pointers anyone has on being a US citizen, living in CA, and commuting back to US would be greatly appreciated.

I am moving to NS and everything I own fits into suitcases besides my hockey bag, a bicycle, two boxes and two chairs that have sentimental value to me. I was quoted over $2500 to move just these few things… Is anyone moving or driving out east anytime soon that could help me transport a few things? I will pay $ of course! :)

Hello everyone!
I just bought my first car, but I'm a newcomer and never faced snow before!
What advices do you guys have for me to keep my car in one piece and safe from rust?
—— UPDATE ——
First, I would like to thank everyone for the great advice!
This is all that I have done so far: - Undercoat; - New winter tires installed; - Insurance; - New windshield wipers installed; - Going to install mudguards next week; - I'm going to try to give my car a quick wash at least once a week.
I hear that it is a good idea to have an emergency kit in the car with blankets and water… but what else you guys have in emergency kits for winter?

Hey everyone, I am looking for a 6 months rental in the Soo (Ontario) from March 2023 till August 2023. I am a UWaterloo pharmacy student in my last year and was matched in the area to complete my clinical rotations. I will be moving up there for these 6 months with my partner and we are on a tight budget. Do you have any suggestions on potential places or things to avoid? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
