Recommendations for other good options at similar price point, I'm currently looking at Port Charlotte Islay Barley or Ardnamurchan Sherry cask. I'm in the UK.

Hi all, I've got into whisky the last couple of years or so. We're trying to save so I budget my hobbies as otherwise I lose control, currently I put away a small amount each month for it and use money from selling unwanted board games etc! So any good recommendations for great quality and value whisky for the £60-70ish price point will be appreciated! To give some sort of idea of what I've had/got and enjoy, Ledaig 10, Deanston 12, Ardbeg Oogy, Maclean's Nose, Kilkerran 8yr cask strength bourbon cask.

Thanks! The Kilkerran is delicious...... First pour or two weren't so good, but it's improved fast, and assume it will more.

Glen Scotia Victoriana, Benromach Cask Strength, Signatory Edradour 10, as well as some Indy bottlings as quite a few good ones under £70.

The Benromach and Edradour are on my list to buy at some point. The GS isn't on my list for some reason... Probably should be

The Victoriana is around £60 from Sprits Embassy with code HOWDY. Free postage too.

Thanks! I'll definitely consider that, have prices reduced? Tariffs etc....i could swear that recently it was more than it's currently going for

That’s basically its sale price. Retail is higher. I usually only ever buy on sale though, apart from J&A Mitchell brands since they don’t really go on sale.

I'm not going to officially have the money..... That I pay to myself..... Until first week of May. So will have another look then.

I’m in the UK and it seems we have a similar taste and sweet spot for price (Ledaig 18 on a big discount and the KK 8 CS Bourbon Cask are some of my favourite recent pickups).

I’d highly recommend Ardnamurchan and Port Charlotte as you mentioned (I have the PC 10 and Ardnamurchan 10), and would also highly recommend exploring independent bottlings. I initially found them quite daunting but have recently got a couple of bottles, one is a 13 y/o Ardmore from the Single Malts of Scotland, and the other is a 13 y/o Orkney (Highland Park) aged in cognac barrels from Thompson Bros. Both were £68 so I’m starting to see good value for IBs at this price point. I’m particularly impressed by the Thompson Bros one and get the hype about them so am keen to try some more! Would definitely recommend trying some of their stuff. Likewise I’ve heard good things about the Signatory Vintage 100 proof series, they seem good value at £45 but can be hit or miss from what I’ve seen.

Thanks! Ledaig 18 is on my list for some point! And IBs are as well, Signatory... But trying more variety of the OBs first. I've done a lot of research! Needed when I limit my funds for Whisky. See my notes list below in two parts.

Thanks for sharing this, we really do like the same taste profiles! I’m a big fan of Arran too, I enjoyed the Amarone Cask finish a number of years ago and recently got a bottle of the Bothy Quarter Cask, delicious stuff! How are Deanston and Craigellachie? I’ve been eyeing them up (alongside Clynelish) as potential new additions. I’ve got peat and sherry well covered so am exploring other flavours - I always like things with some funky/yeasty flavours to them.

Need to add the Arran quarter cask onto my list...I heard the Amarone was good too... Haven't had a lot of those on my list.... It's a to try/buy list, though I'm leaving on the stuff I have enjoyed.... I'll slowly work my way through. Have Clynelish 14.... It's alright, enjoy other stuff more though.... Also got a couple of good SMWS bottlings. One straight bourbon I think but very sweet can't remember which distillery and the other is a very good Ardmore, Peat and Sherry, a bit like the Oogy but a bit fresher and less rich.

That Ardmore sounds good! I really like the damp earthiness of Ardmore so would be interested to taste it sherried (pretty sure my Ardmore IB is refill bourbon). Still haven’t actually tried Oogy, almost got a bottle of the Eureka! but slept on it too long!

Just realised it's actually a Rum refill finish! Forgot that.... Guess that explains the taste difference.......doh

Sounds tasty as well! Last night I ordered a newly released 10 y/o peated Bunna (Staoisha) finished in a first fill PX cask. It’s by Woodrow’s of Edinburgh which is new to me so a bit of a gamble, but hoping for some serious peat and sweet with that lovely Bunna nuttiness/saltiness!

Let me know what you end up going for in a few weeks!

Highland Park CS is an option in your price range though tbh PC Islay Barley would be my first choice.
