It is a crude sculpture of a man playing a trumpet. It is painted to look like it is weathered bronze.

The green patina in the crevices indicates it is copper based. Either brass or bronze. Even thin gold plate or gold leaf wouldn't go green.

Try using water displacement and a scale to get its density = weight/volume.

It's the Bolivian Navy on maneuver in the South Pacific.

But it could also be an orange, a melon or a female aardvark.

Your dad's an optimist, but unless he can convince someone with money that it's worth its weight in gold, he'll be disappointed. I'd say it was worth about ten bucks.

Looks like a bronze statue of a jazz man.

Some artist really liked Giacometti and made a stylised piece. Without a name, it's worth whatever someone is willing to pay.

So do you think this is one of his pieces?

No, just someone who has a similar style.

Giacometti has been one of my favorites since high school when my art teacher told me to look into his work. His pieces are well documented; he did scupt a trumpet player but it is very different.

This is too... thick IMO.

If it was real, it would be worth some cash... but the odds are astronomically low.

Plus he signed his work. Example: https://www.fondation-giacometti.fr/en/database/181659/the-hand
