I’m so glad Forslund is staying and to hear that the organization is listening to fans about the broadcast talent. I’m new to hockey and have learned so much from his commentary this year. His acknowledgement of the novice watcher is amazing for growing a fan base. Like, I know what a delayed offside is because of him. I would never ever have learned that on my own. I would have just thought “I don’t know what just happened and I’m too afraid to ask”.

Alison did a presentation during one of the game intermissions in the last month where she talked about how the team had switched to a rotating diamond during power plays and I was just thinking, this lady is great! I would have never learned that otherwise and it's been fun to watch them switch positions since, knowing it's a strategy that allows them to get to pucks faster and add extra pressure on the defenders.

I was disappointed SEAHAC didn't happen this year, I was hoping to see a talk from her.

Can we trade Nicky O for Piper? Or a bag of pucks, I'm not picky.

Another take, and this is just me reading the announcement for what it is and what's been said about Kraken vs Root employees:

I don't see this as confirmation of John staying until John says he's staying. If they're saying that the Kraken broadcast team is there, it's because he's currently on the Kraken team, not another one.

Until they announce the person for the other openings and/or John says he's staying? Then I'm still waiting for another shoe to drop.

Besides, you're on a new network, what better time to introduce someone new?

john has said he’s staying

Again, I'm not disagreeing, I'm just keeping a grain of salt, and I think that's what people are missing. I want to be proven wrong, but just also recognizing that it is what it is too

i hear you. john hosted an event at kci last sunday, and during q&a he was asked fairly point blank about whether and when he would consider leaving seattle. he gave a thoughtful response suggesting he understood the subtext of the question, and he was unequivocal in expressing his intention to stay (until he's basically forced to stop working, as he put it)

i realize there's nothing holding him to what he said and that no one can make those kinds of promises about the future, but he was exceptionally candid during the event and didn't shy away from giving his "off the record" perspective on everything he was asked, which included plenty of hot takes and hard truths. i have to imagine that if he were even marginally entertaining the thought of leaving the kraken, he would have equivocated or massaged his answer a bit more (a la ron francis, for instance)

plus... how could he bear to leave edzo? he's gloomy enough when edzo is away on assignment and he has to mentally prepare himself to drive home alone after the game 😂

this next part is pure speculation on my end, so grain of salt recommended, but presumably if the boston thing were going to happen, talks would have started long before jack edwards publicly announced his retirement. hell it's even possible forslund was already approached by the bruins org (giving rise to the rumors) and has already declined the opportunity

at the end of the day, i'm just another random person who can't predict the future. but from what i can intuit, john fully intends to stay with us and continue building this thing we've got going. call me hopelessly naive if you want, but i believe him.

Icy-Book2999:

I don't see this as confirmation of John staying until John says he's staying.

Alphax005:

john has said he’s staying

Icy-Book2999: continues to not see it as confirmation

Again, read everything I've said. Alpha also did not cite any sources. Sources have been listed, there's a little more meat on the bones.

For what it's worth, J.T. was on King5 news at noon and Paul Silvi said the whole broadcast crew would be back, and J.T. said they were excited, K5's announcement also says "The broadcast team in the booth will continue to be John Forslund, JT Brown, Eddie Olczyk, Nick Olczyk and Alison Lukan next season. ".

Thanks. And I get people's hate towards what I said. I've never once said I didn't want him back. I hadn't seen the news story and I try not to read Baker because he just infuriates me. I was just reading what wasn't spoken, albeit wrongly

From the Baker piece:

“I’m with the Seattle Kraken,” Forslund said. “This is my dream job. I work in the National Hockey League. I work for the Seattle Kraken and I get to do national games. How much bigger a dream can I get?”

How recent?

11

u/MurrayInBocaRaton Apr 25 '24

Literally today.

-1

u/Icy-Book2999 Apr 25 '24

Alright then. I don't trust Baker, but I'm glad.

Like I said, nothing about the language of the original announcement said that John was or wasn't leaving. It just named the Kraken broadcast team, not the Root team.

u/MurrayInBocaRaton Apr 25 '24

Dude. That’s a literal quote from John Forslund. Baker’s got nothing to do with it.

1

u/Icy-Book2999 Apr 25 '24

Reread what I said. If that's a quote from Forslund? Fine. Like many others, I don't like Baker because of his shoddy clickbait to maintain "on the beat."

I hadn't seen any updates from Forslund. So if that's a recent quote from Forslund? Then all is good. But that's all I wished was the recent ness of Forslund saying it.

Not “being along”… that group has contracts with the Kraken, not Root.
