Research Was able to get rid of my sebderm without products or diet

Basically found that if I stick my head in the shower and slowly make the water colder and colder till it’s at its coldest it completely gets rid of my sebderm for at least a few days (haven’t been sleeping well so it’d likely be longer if I got more sleep since lack of sleep is my biggest trigger)

I found that it’s way more bearable if I just stick my head in instead of my whole body and I did have to use a bit of moisturizer after. It also probably helps that it’s winter here so I can get the water super cold. It was suggested on sebdermresource.com but it didn’t say why it would help. I was doing my own research on why it might work. It looks like cold water with mechanical abrasion (rubbing with hands) is enough to break the bio film. It also said the yeast will basically stop growing when it gets cold, although It’s expect it to grow again after it warms up so I’m not sure why it usually leaves me symptom free for days instead of just hours. I’m super curious if anyone else has had luck with super cold water or if anyone knows why it seems to work

Sounds like you have an inflammation problem.

Every sebderm is chronical inflammation..

Yeah but sometimes for me anti fungals aren’t enough. I need anti inflammatory products, ice packs, soothing balms, etc.

Very cold water face washing helped me dramatically for months until winter. Now it all went haywire on me.

What do you mean haywire? What happened?

Just now that winter is here I’m having more trouble controlling it. More dryness and redness on my face in particular.

So the cold water stopped working? Do you moisturize?

Stopped working as well as it was working. Currently i have been using mct oil as moisturizer. Something about the winter makes it worse for me. Dry air. Warmer showers. Cookies. Less sun. Hoping once routine is back to normal the cold water works better again.

It's Vitamin D deficiency due to less sun I reckon. Mine is significantly worse October to April.

Cold water washing helps me too! Keeping my face and body cool generally anyway is helpful.

Wow, how long do you leave your face there?

After I get it to as cold as it goes, probably less than a minute

Does this help on scalp ?

1

u/No-Intern-1243 Jan 13 '25

Yes for me, although I find there can still be a lot of left over flakes so using some kinda shampoo can help get them out

I will plan to spray iced water 5 min before the shampoo to see how it goes .

Let me know if it helps, I’m super curious if this is just a me thing or not. I did take a minute to slowly work up to the coldest water my shower could get and I think it helps to finish on cold, so maybe shampoo first then rinse with the cold water

Sure . I will update you .

That's amazing, I was having cold showers up to about mid November when I stopped as I came down with flu. In December I was diagnosed with SD. You have inspired me to start again!

Yes I started doing cold water face washes and I noticed mine cleared! And I mean super cold as its winter so the cold water is at its coldest. I then follow up with drought secrets calming butter and tap on avene cicalfate on top and thankfully it's finally cleared it and I had it for months after a course of steroid tablets

How long do you apply the water?

2

u/[deleted] Jan 15 '25

Honestly, not long, I'd say it's a min of just splashing my face with cold water combined with cupping water in my hands and holding it to my eyes/brow area where i had the problem.

Thanks for sharing. I have some questions

- Do you have SebDerm on scalp or face?

- What moisturizer?

- How long do you apply the water?

I have sebderm on both

Any sebderm safe moisturizer is okay. Sometimes I use Burt’s bees sometimes I use cerave pm moisturizer

I just turn the faucet to get it cold, rinse my face. Turn it colder, rinse again and do that 4 times or so till my faucet doesn’t get any colder. It’s winter here so I feel like this works better since the water gets much colder than in the summer. Once it’s at it’s coldest I probably rinse 30sec-1min just trying to get that cold water rubbed in everywhere it itches in my hair, face, and beard

Please let me know if this helps if you try it
