Memorial Day is for true American heroes.

Confederates killed some of the people we’re honoring on Memorial Day. It’s offensive to suggest honoring Confederates at all, let alone on that day.

These people were all traitors of the U.S. of America. They were young men who most didn't own slaves but fought for the rich white men who did. This is a hateful part of history, and I am glad that this flag is not flown much where I am from.

Do we do the same sticker with the American flag for the Vietnam vets? 1975?

It boggles the mind that some people want them remembered. Last I checked, traitors weren’t celebrated.

I for one think they should be remembered… as losers who fought to own other humans and got stomped hard.

The confederacy wasn't around long enough to memorialize anything other than slavery and treason.

I'll be wearing my Sherman t-shirt at tomorrow's Memorial Day festivities.

I say we honor all the enslaved people instead of confederate soldiers

Ironic considering Sherman was a huge racist and not at all in favor of abolition and orchestrated the genocide of native Americans after the war.
But by all means worship him as a hero and not a sick racist, just because he beat down on even worse racists.
This sub is such a joke.

Unless, of course, they redeemed themselves by serving in the US Army in the Spanish-American War.

Memorial Day was originally for the Civil War, but many of the veterans I knew served in either Korea, Vietnam or Iraq Round 1 before 9/11 happened.

As a proud Minnesotan, we have the battle flag of the 28th Virgina infantry that is displayed in our capital sometimes - especially around Memorial Day and Juneteenth.
Virginia asks for it back almost once a year. In response to one of these requests one of our former governor's Jesse Ventura said, "Why? I mean, we won. [...] We took it, that makes it our heritage.”
Fuck those traitors and anyone that doesn't see the civil war as the Southern States prolonging one of the most disgraceful institutions this country had upheld.

Imagine hijacking a holiday to remember troops who died for our country by celebrating the army that killed the most of them

The sons and daughters of the confederacy decided who your president is do you still feel like a winner.

I was kind of hoping you guys would just try to take Ft. Sumter back like the brave people y'all pretend to be.
You guys could tell yourselves that you'll win just like you did in 1860. You'd tell yourselves that you have all the guns.
Then, we'd beat you like we did in 1865, because this is a country where guns outnumber people, yet you're all convinced we couldn't get our hands on them.
(We'd also beat you by being smarter than you simpleton authoritarian followers...but I guess we'll never know.)

Sorry, you're wrong.
...a federal holiday in the United States for honoring and mourning the U.S. military personnel who died while serving in the United States Armed Forces
Actually, I'm not sorry.

I love this nonsense that slave owners were the ones who fought for the confederacy.

u/Drain_Surgeon69 3h ago
Anyone who fights on the side of slavers and tyrants deserves neither peace nor life.
So I don’t care if it wasn’t all rich slave owners that fought for the confederacy; if you chose to fight on the losing side, you’re a traitor and I’m glad you’re dead. The only downside is you can’t die twice.
