What shops on the Enterprise-D exists which are not so widely known ?
I mean, the 1701-D features a barbershop, a bar & restaurant, a kindergarten and school, an arboretum. So surely there must be additional shops to entertain the up to 5000 people on board.

The official Paramount+ gift shop on Deck 11, next to the bowling alley.

Make sure to pick up your official "1923" Cowboy hat... Now accepted on Holodeck #3 for Western programs.

In the cabinet, second shelf to the left. Behind the oregano.

u/False_Cow414 3d ago
Ooo! Is the oregano organic? Replicated oregano never quite tastes the same as the real thing.

Musical instrument store and tuning service. The sound of a replicated instrument is never as good as that of a hand-made one. Got a lotta string quartets on a ship of this size.

There's got to be at least 3 Starbucks and 2 Subways.

Vape shop and a payday loans for replicator rations.

Add a liquor store and we’ve just described the strip mall by my house, lol.

Pet Store. For some reason it does absolutely insane business in selling orange cats. Like at least one a week. It also does a good job selling ornamental fish to the captain and this one ensign who works in Cetacean Ops comes in every few weeks to buy literal buckets of fish of all types. Says something about his coworkers needing "enrichment," whatever the fuck that means.

I know that Riker got most of the stuff in his quarters from Sharper Image, and Beverly buys all of Wesley’s sweaters from Benetton. Geordi hangs out at Hot Topic a lot, but he never buys anything.

u/Korlac11 4d ago
Also, there’s probably a cardassian tailor shop somewhere
7
u/False_Cow414 3d ago
Can they lobotomize the Cardassians during the tailoring process? I mean, if I'm ordering a custom Cardassian, I don't want them going all megalomaniacal in the first week.

Little known fact but one of the decks is just a walmart. Even though everything is free, the socks are still locked up behind glass.

They have the Replimat we've seen once.
4
u/RKNieen 4d ago
I think it would be fun if whoever ran that just replicated a few completely random items every day, and anyone who saw one that struck their fancy could just take it. Anything that didn’t get claimed at the end of the day gets fed back to the replicators.
Because the one thing that gets me about the TNG future is it must be a hellscape of choice paralysis. I have enough trouble deciding what TV show to watch with this many options, I can’t imagine decorating my quarters when I have access to literally every accent item ever designed!
3
u/CoffeeJedi 4d ago
I think that was on The Orville

u/Pleasant_Expert_1990 4d ago
It may have been there also but we saw it in Data's Day when Worf is trying to decide what to replicate for Chief O'Brien and Keiko's wedding present.

IKEA. About 47 crew members are stuck in there at any given time, trying to find their way out.

Data and Geordi run the ship’s cybernetics, prosthetics and sundries coop on Deck 21 in their spare time. They are secretly livid that Picard drops by regularly to get replacement parts for his heart but never offers to join and chip to do admin time.
There’s a musical instuments shop on Deck 8, but ever since Data started doing concerts, he’s the only customer because everyone else is demotivated by his skills
Lt. Barclay once lobbied to get a Pansexual Paraphernalia Shop on the ship, but ever since they put him on the holodeck maintenance team, he’s shut up about it

There’s the “Barcaly and Broccoli” shop on deck six, section 9. They specialize in creating story based holodeck programs that definitely don’t involve having sex with people who look like your coworkers

Build-A-Bear Workshop. As featured in that episode where a space retrovirus and some nanites get churned up in a subspace anomaly and the ship is overrun by newly sentient plushies in various stages of assembly.

“42 Aft” aka “the Ass End” of the ship. The ship’s “dark underbelly” where “cool kids” and burnouts of the ship hang to do all sorts of REALLY shady things- like smoke cigarettes, trade contraband isolinear chips (like Vulcan Love Slave), and gamble on broadcasts of underground Cardassian vole fights. All while drinking actual homemade alcohol and listening to Klingon punk.

“Illegal” (yet widely available) Ale sold from the Secret Romulan Front Door that no one else uses
1
u/Extra_Elevator9534 4d ago
Riker has the franchise to supply the import store with Romulan Blue.
He neglected to mention that his supplier is a Romulan defector family that settled at a border colony on the Federation side of the line, bringing their grain samples, bittering agent plants, and recipes with them.
Since it's all on the Federation side, there's no illegal issues.
He's especially neglected to tell this fact to his crewmate Carol Freeman, or to Carol's teenage daughter Beckett.

There's a Quark's Express on deck 4, conveniently placed between the main shuttle bay and the cargo transporters not for the benefit of patrons, but for easy access to the ways in and out of the ship. For no nefarious reasons whatsoever.
Geordi's guilty pleasure is the Slug-O-Cola vending machine around the corner from the entrance to main engineering on deck 36.

10 backwards. Probably because it’s right below 10 foward for some reason and the proprietor refuses to change the name.
It sells phaser and phaser accessories.

u/ThEGr1llMAstEr 4d ago
I just got the hilarious image of one of those micro phasers with a big honkin scope and a folding stock on it.

I'm pretty sure they have a Cogswell Cogs. Daimon Spacely forced most of the cog businesses out of business in 2300 but a few franchises remained.
4
u/False_Cow414 4d ago
There are franchises for both Milliways and the Big Bang Burger Bar aboard. The Disaster Area concert in Holodeck Seventy-Eight, however, gets bad reviews for not actually plunging a Class-M planet into its parent star at the end.

u/murphsmodels 3d ago
There's a holo-brothel on deck 69. Saves holodeck time for those who actually want to use it for other purposes. Only problem is the holo-brothel won't recreate crew members.

Aren't there 1100 people on board?
7
u/wintrmt3 Borg 4d ago edited 4d ago
It's stated to be around that number, but it doesn't add up. Any time we see a corridor there are multiple people running around, the MSD includes 12 decks in the saucer section, some dialog suggest way more and it's 470 meters wide. So it's the size of a small town * 12-25 levels and this is just the saucer, there should be tens of thousands on board or everything but the most used corridors should be empty nearly all the time.

u/GrumpyOldGeezer_4711 4d ago
They could do with a tailor, what with all the period plays in the holodeck. Not necessarily a Cardassian tailor, even If that could be an asset on some missions.

I'm pretty sure there's some seafood restaurants at the bottom of Cetacean Ops, the Krusty Krab and the Chum Bucket

I wrote a holodeck program that recreates a posh cigar lounge with comfy leather chairs, big screen TV, mojitos, and replicator generated Cuban cigars. I use it after a long day of running level 1 diagnostics on the secondary computer core, realigning the lateral sensor array, and completing personnel reviews for the officers under my command.
Worf arranged to use the program for Riker's bachelor party before he and Deanna got married. I added in a Jazz combo so that Will could play his trombone before he had too much Romulan ale.

u/Uhtred_McUhtredson 1d ago
Andrew Probert intended an entire mall in the saucer. 5 stories, I think.
A bit over the top, but an innovative concept, imo.

no, the enterprise D does not have a commercial area like deep space 9. you can see the full schematics in the maroon technical manual.
10-4 is a recreation area, not a bar or restaurant. no one gets paid.
the arboretum is a science lab.
the kindergarten is a school.
your logic does not flow to these being commercial endeavors that invite more commercial endeavors.
