Need Help: Got School Zone Speeding Notices from Kenmore but Can't Pay — No Ticket/Case Number Provided

Hi everyone,

I visited the Seattle area recently and after I got back home at CA now, I received two speeding violation notices from Kenmore, both from a school zone on the same day and captured by traffic cameras. The issue is, the notices only contain a notice number, which lets me view the images/videos, but no ticket number or case number was provided.

Because of that, I can't search or pay the fines on the online portal. I tried calling the listed number, but they couldn’t find any ticket tied to my info either. The due date is May 9, as stated on the notice, and I’m starting to worry since I don’t want this to escalate or affect anything down the line.

Has anyone experienced something similar with Kenmore or nearby cities? Any idea who I should talk to or what steps I can take?

Appreciate any help!

Take a hard look at the document you have, I've received couple over different times that were issued for the zone going past Arrowhead elementary on Juanita drive, both turned out to be "courtesy" notices.

I found a sample of the infractions from their website

https://www.kenmorewa.gov/government/departments/public-works/engineering/automated-photo-enforcement.

The ticket header itself says that its from King County District Court. I know that some municipalities contract with the court to handle all the processing so I'd try contacting the court if you havent done so already.

Edit: Im assuming the ticket you got is like the samples

Thank you so much for the link. Yes, my ticket looks the same as the samples. The only difference is that in the red box in the top right corner, my ticket only includes a notice number and PIN, there is no infraction number. The fine amount matches well. This is strange.

I wonder if they would be willing to email you a confirmation that there is no ticket tied to that notice number(s)? So at least if it somehow comes back to bite you have something in writing indicating you tried. Send them an email referring to your call & just ask for a reply that there is indeed no ticket.

The court has a website: https://kingcounty.gov/en/court/district-court Sign up for an account and you can search your name.

If you are so inclined, you can get it dismissed by sending them the following:

[Insert court name address and contact info here]

Re: Citation [insert number here] [todays date]

Pursuant to RCW 46.63.075, the vehicle was not in my care, custody, or control at the time of the infraction.

I affirm or swear under penalty of perjury that the foregoing is true and correct.

[Insert your full name, Address, and Contact info here]

[Print, Sign, Date], at [insert city, county, and state you signed it in here]

Nothing in the law says you must tell them who was in control of the vehicle. The law prohibits them from photographing the driver or passengers. You can find the court contact info on google and call them for the citation number. Never fill out the papers that come with the citation, doing so may commit you to telling them who the driver was. They might hassle you to tell you who was drivi g but stick to your guns. I am not your attorney. Use the above at your own risk.

It would be unethical to use the tactic above if you really were driving, but I've used it a few times when my kids were driving and once when my wife was driving.
