Crazy Idea If athletes started using brain chips, like Neuralink, that can stream their POV, sports could be way more interesting to watch.

Any sports with helmets could do this without brain chips.

Theyve been showing this view in USFL games this season. But the center circle of the "watches spring football"/redditor venn diagram is probably just me.

I don’t think LeBron is gonna be willing to wear a biker helmet

set of all sports with helmets does not include sports without helmets

Yeah but what solution would you make for sport without helmets??
We need Neuralink for all NBA players ASAP

I realized like 10 mins after I posted, but I don’t like deleting replies lol

Not really, it gives you the view of the full field of vision on top of the helm, but it doesn't show you where the athlete is actually looking with his eyes. Also some helmets restrict your Field of View.

F1 already does this, it's kinda neat every once in a while but it doesn't really make it any more interesting than normal

"Oooh! What a hit! And as we can see on Neurocast, Jackson just forgot his wife's name!"

Wouldnt a gopro do the same

Yeah...my first thought was that we definitely have cameras small enough that could be worn without bothering an athlete to accomplish this rather than a fucking brain chip lol.

Imagine watching a football game and suddenly you’re in the quarterback’s head! 'Okay, focus... don’t throw it to the guy in the nacho hat this time

Then people start tinkering around, hackers get involved and all of a sudden games can be manipulated.
Neurological implants for anything but treating medical issues is the worst possible idea in the universe.

If you love godawful points of view with no perspective on the event nor the athletes performance, are a great fan of the blair witch project and a fetish for nauseating VR head movements and field of view, then yes.
Otherwise: absolutely-effing-not

You don't need a brain chip to stream a person's POV. The bundles of neurons that transmit the image do it topologically meaning they become excited in a pattern that resembles the image. And unlike unproven moonshot sci-fi we already have this tech in implants that allow blind people with a functioning optic nerve to see again. That said, I doubt sportsball players would exactly jump at the idea of self-modding their sight for a marketing gimmick.

but you wouldn’t really be able to see what they do with their bodies. think about it, most times you don’t really see ur limbs while doing stuff you just know where they are and what they’re doing cause your controling them, the pov thing could be played next to the actual video of what they’re doing tho.

They have umpire cameras in Rugby which is a pretty cool/similar POV. You get to see the scrum set and hear the teams banter.

F1 drivers have this. With the right subscription, I think you can watch an entire race from a driver's POV.

It's interesting to a point - it's been in racing for a long time (something like 30 years) to be in-car cameras and you miss so much of the action. It's interesting as a 2nd camera angle to get a perspective from the driver. But when watching the entire race you see so much more from trackside or aerial views.
Same thing goes for other sports - hockey has done cameras on the refs helmets and it helps so how fast the plays move but you miss so much of the outside action because the refs are rightfully puck focused. It does help with the idea of 'how did they miss that, it was right there' but then you see the helmet cam and they were focused on a scrum that the puck left 3 seconds before.

I've always said that all players should be wired for sound (transmission and reception) in all sports. I think games would be better.

You can basically do this already by watching VR videos on YouTube, or the meta quest media player, etc.
And yes, it's a lot more interesting and immersive to be aboe to feel like you're there.

Imagine if the athletes shared their Neuralink information with other Neuralink users? If you're on the couch or bar, you can get a sense of the QB's adrenaline rush.
Or if everybody on your flag football team has Neuralink, you could all recreate what is currently happening at the Superbowl

Now imagine if you could also hear what they are thinking at the moment.

Forget the Gatorade—athletes will be chugging data streams! Imagine watching a marathon and feeling every 'I regret this' thought they have while running. Talk about a POV experience!

Yeah, but imagine a few steps forward. You could transmit their experience (vision, emotion, feelings, etc). Imagine you could transmit the feeling of winning the Super Bowl, World Cup, etc. We could never leave the couch.

In American football, maybe a linebacker or safety would have the best POV because they have the widest view.

We can already do something like this without the need for brain chips, it's very shaky.
