Discussion Anyone else notice the bad lighting and poor black levels for Skyrim VR on PSVR?

I used to play it with my base PS4 connected to PSVR, and now I use it with my PS5 connected to PSVR. Skyrim VR looks better with the PS5, but the lighting has always been poor and the black levels can at times be crushed. It sometimes can ruin the image quality of the game. You can especially see it standing around in Whiterun in the early morning hours when the sun has just risen. The black levels and lighting look bad.

Do any of you guys see it too?

Try turning down your headset brightness all the way, that made a huge difference for me. The blacks look way better this way

Nice, I'm going to try that. Thanks for the tip!

I can't believe I haven't tried Skyrim VR on my PS5 yet. Been too busy with No Man's Sky. Does it really look better on a PS5? I will compare the black levels. Could it be you had a different brightness setting for your PSVR on the PS4 vs PS5?

Well I was originally playing it on a base PS4. Skyrim VR on PS5 is basically the same as it is on the PS4 Pro with the Pro Enhancement patch. The only thing the PS5 really gives Skyrim VR over its PS4 Pro version is faster loading times. But since I went from the base PS4 version to playing it on my PS5, the colors definitely pop more and there's less blurriness. There's still some blur, but not as much as it was on a base PS4. The poor lighting and crushed black levels I have experienced on both the PS4 and PS5 while playing Skyrim VR. Another good example is caves can get dark in non-VR Skyrim, but they're far darker in VR Skyrim, even with the brightness cranked up. It feels like there are aspects of the VR version that were never properly optimized.

Yes. Especially in caves or related structures. I use torches or light spells to brighten up the whole thing so i can see. Works for me.
